Myostatin induces dermomyotome EMT in somitogenesis

Myostatin could induce EMT of A549 and MDCK cancer cells in *** TGF-β1,Myostatin treatment morphologically converts A549 and MDCK cells to mesenchymal cells,which are characterized by downregulated expression of the epithelial markers,such as E-cadherin and ZO-1,and upregulated expression of mesenchymal markers,Vimentin and Snail. Taken together,our data demonstrated that Myostatin could induce EMT both in vitro and in vivo,implying that Myostatin could functionally determine cell fate of muscle progenitors by promoting EMT of dermomyotome to negatively regulate myogenesis during early embryonic myogenesis.
