摘      要:The first object one sees as one en ters the reception of the Swiss embassy in Beijing is a semi-psychedelic plastic cow with a clock attached to either side. What does it mean. the visitor wonders. Could it be an allusion to the fact that it was a Swiss company - Nestle -that played a major role in developing China’s dairy industry? Who knows? Whatever the thinking behind it, this cow certainly sets the embassy apart from any other. Cow or no cow, Switzerland is different in many respects from most other countries now represented in China.
