摘 要:I. "Protection of the Person" as the Value Cornerstone of Law All civil codes tend to mirror a certain sense of ethical value typical of a given society, a sense that in macroscopic terms determines the intrinsic spirit underlying the civil code in question and, in specific terms, exercises a profound impact on the concrete provisions designed therein. China needs to define its own civil code taking into account the characteristics of the era and its own cultural traditions, so different from those of the European continent in the 19^th century, when civil codes were there in the making.
