摘 要:A simplified extensive air shower model is used along the incoming path of galactic cosmic rays to calculate the ionization rate in the earth’s atmosphere. The calculated results show that the peak of ionization rate is at an altitude of about 15km above the ground. The maximum ionization rate is about 10 pairs per cm3 per second at the geomagnetic equator and 70--110 pairs at the geomagnetic polar region. Above and below the peak altitude, the ionization rate decays nearly exponentially with a distance away from the peak and the upper slope is steeper than the lower *** ray ionization source functions, i,e. the ionization rate per depth as a function of depth along the incoming path for a unit flux with a certain energy, have been obtained. Using this function, the modulation of the galactic cosmic ray ionization by the solar activity is calculated. The results show that no obvious modulation can be seen near the magnetic equator. The modulation is larger at the higher magnetic latitude. The ma
