Acupuncture with different frequencies for tobacco dependence: a randomized controlled trial

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of different acupuncture frequencies on the abstinence rate which could be used as a reference for optimizing acupuncture cessation ***: From July 2018 to June 2022， a total of 220 smokers were recruited based on inclusion criteria and randomly divided into the high-frequency acupuncture group (HF group， n = 110): 5 times a week from the 1st to the 4th week， from weeks 5 to 8， three times a week and the low-frequency acupuncture group (LF group， n = 110): 3 times a week from the 1st to the 4th week， from weeks 5 to 8， twice a week， then treated for 8 weeks and follow-up at 1 month in ***: In total， 162 subjects completed the whole study with a drop-out rate of 20.45%. The expiratory CO point abstinence rate was HF group 53/110 (48.18%) vs LF group 41/110 (37.27%) in Week 8 (P = 0.102) and HF group 46/110 (41.82%) vs LF group 45/110 (40.91%) in Week 12 (P = 0.891) and the HF acupuncture and LF acupuncture were nearly equal in the 8-week abstinence rate. In addition， both HF and LF acupuncture significantly reduced Fagerstr?m test for nicotine dependence scale (FTND) scores (P < 0.05)， Minnesota nicotine withdrawal scale (MNWS) scores (P < 0.05)， and Brief Questionnaire of Smoking Urges scale (QSU-Brief) scores (P < 0.05)， but HF acupuncture showed some superiority over LF acupuncture in relieving patients' smoking cravings (P < 0.05).Conclusions: The study initially showed that both high-frequency acupuncture and low-frequency acupuncture treatment were safe and effective on smoking cessation for 8 weeks， but high-frequency acupuncture was advantageous in reducing smoking cravings. More accurate acupuncture frequency needs to be validated through larger clinical studies to optimize acupuncture smoking cessation programs.

BACKGROUND Autism spectrum disorder(ASD)is a developmental disorder characterized by social deficits and repetitive ***(GI)problems,such as constipation,diarrhea,and inflammatory bowel disease,commonly occur in patients with ***,GI problems of ASD patients were attributed to intestinal inflammation and vertical mother-to-infant microbiome *** To explore whether GI problems in ASD are related to maternal intestinal inflam-mation and gut microbiota *** An ASD rat model was developed using valproic acid(VPA).Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and fecal 16S rRNA sequencing were used to test GI *** VPA exposure during pregnancy led to pathological maternal intestinal changes,resulting in alterations in maternal gut ***,the levels of inflammatory factors also ***,prenatal exposure to VPA resulted in impaired duodenal motility in the offspring as well as increased levels of infla-mmatory *** GI problems in ASD may be associated with maternal intestinal inflammation and microbiota *** research is required to find more evidence on the etiology and treatment of GI problems in ASD.

Quantum speedup and limitations on matroid property problems

Matroid theory has been developed to be a mature branch of mathematics and has extensive applications in combinatorial optimization,algorithm design and so *** the other hand,quantum computing has attracted much attention and has been shown to surpass classical computing on solving some computational ***,crossover studies of the two fields seem to be missing in the *** paper initiates the study of quantum algorithms for matroid property *** is shown that quadratic quantum speedup is possible for the calculation problem of finding the girth or the number of circuits(bases,flats,hyperplanes)of a matroid,and for the decision problem of deciding whether a matroid is uniform or Eulerian,by giving a uniform lower boundΩ■on the query complexity of all these *** the other hand,for the uniform matroid decision problem,an asymptotically optimal quantum algorithm is proposed which achieves the lower bound,and for the girth problem,an almost optimal quantum algorithm is given with query complexityO■.In addition,for the paving matroid decision problem,a lower boundΩ■on the query complexity is obtained,and an O■ quantum algorithm is presented.

A novel metal-free porous covalent organic polymer for efficient room-temperature photocatalytic CO2 reduction via dry-reforming of methane

At room temperature,the conversion of greenhouse gases into valuable chemicals using metal-free catalysts for dry reforming of methane（DRM） is quite promising and ***,we developed a novel covalent organic porous polymer （TPE-COP） with rapid charge separation of the electron–hole pairs for DRM driven by visible light at room temperature,which can efficiently generate syngas （CO and H2）.Both electron donor (tris（4-aminophenyl）amine,TAPA) and acceptor (4,4',4'',4'''-(（1 E,1'E,1''E,1'''E）-(ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayltetrakis （benzene-4,1-diyl）)tetrakis （ethene-2,1-diyl）)tetrakis (1-（4-formylbenzyl）quinolin-1-ium),TPE-CHO) were existed in TPE-COP,in which the push–pull effect between them promoted the separation of photogenerated electron–hole,thus greatly improving the photocatalytic *** functional theory （DFT） simulation results show that TPE-COP can form charge-separating species under light irradiation,leading to electrons accumulation in TPE-CHO unit and holes in TAPA,and thus efficiently initiating *** 20 h illumination,the photocatalytic results show that the yields reach 1123.6 and 30.8μmol g-1for CO and H2,respectively,which are significantly higher than those of TPE-CHO small *** excellent result is mainly due to the increase of specific surface area,the enhancement of light absorption capacity,and the improvement of photoelectron-generating efficiency after the formation of ***,this work contributes to understanding the advantages of COP materials for photocatalysis and fundamentally pushes metal-free catalysts into the door of DRM field.

Thermal properties and high-temperature ablation of high-entropy (Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) coating on graphite substrate

An entropy-stabilized multicomponent ultrahigh-temperature ceramic(UHTC)coating,(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2),on a graphite substrate was in-situ sintered by spark plasma sintering(SPs)from constituent transition metal diboride ***(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) coating had a hardness of 31.2±2.1 GPa and resisted 36.9 GPa of stress before delamination,as observed at the *** temperature-dependent thermal properties of the multicomponent diboride(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) were obtained by molecular dynamics(MD)simulations driven by a machine learning force field(MLFF)trained on density functional theory(DFT)*** thermal conductivity,density,heat capacity,and coefficient of thermal expansion obtained by the MD simulations were used in time-dependent thermal stress finite element model(FEM)*** low thermal conductivity(2 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1))of the multicomponent diboride coupled with its similar coefficient of thermal expansion to that of graphite indicated that stresses of less than 10 GPa were generated at the interface at high temperatures,and therefore,the coating was mechanically resistant to the thermal stress induced during *** experiments at 220℃ showed that the multicomponent diboride coating was resistant to thermal stresses with no visible cracking or *** ablation mechanisms were mechanical denudation and evaporation of B_(2)O_(5) and light V-Ti oxides,which caused a decrease in the mass and thickness of the coating and resulted in mass and linear ablation rates of-0.51 mg·s^(-1) and -1.38μm·s^(-1),respectively,after 60 *** findings demonstrated the thermal and mechanical stability of multicomponent entropy-stabilized diborides as coatings for carbon materials in engineering components under extreme environments.

Top-quark rare decays with flavor violation

In the present study,we investigated the decays of the top quark:t→cy,t→cg,t→cZ,and t→*** are extremely rare processes in the standard model(SM).As the U(1)extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model(MSSM),the U(1)_X SSM features new superfields such as the right-handed neutrinos and three Higgs *** analyzed the effects of different sensitive parameters on the results and made reasonable theoretical predictions,thereby providing a useful reference for future experimental *** the constraint set by the updated experimental data,the numerical results show that the branching ratios of the four proccsscs,i.e.,t→cγ,cg,cZ,ch,can reach the same order of magnitude as their experimental upper *** them,tanβhas the most evident effect on these processes and is the main parameter;g_(X),g_(YX),μ,M_(2),λ_(H),M_(U23)^(2),and M_(Q23)^(2) are also important parameters for the processes,and have effects on the numerical results.

This study investigates the effects of Fe on the oxygen-evolution reaction(OER)in the presence of *** distinct areas of OER were identified:the first associated with Fe sites at low overpotential(~330 mV),and the second with Au sites at high overpotential(~870 mV).Various factors such as surface Fe concentration,electrochemical method,scan rate,potential range,concentration,method of adding K_(2)Fe O_(4),nature of Fe,and temperature were varied to observe diverse behaviors during OER for Fe O_(x)H_(y)/*** amounts of Fe ions had a significant impact on OER,reaching a saturation point where the activity did not increase *** electronic interaction between Fe and Au ions was indicated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)*** situ visible spectroscopy confirmed the formation of Fe O_(4)^(2-)during *** situ Mossbauer and surfaceenhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)analyses suggest the involvement of Fe-based species as intermediates during the rate-determining step of OER.A lattice OER mechanism based on Fe O_(x)H_(y)was proposed for operation at low *** functional theory(DFT)calculations revealed that Fe oxide,Fe-oxide clusters,and Fe doping on the Au foil exhibited different activities and stabilities during *** study provides insights into the interplay between Fe and Au in OER,advancing the understanding of OER mechanisms and offering implications for the design of efficient electrocatalytic systems.

Higgs-like(pseudo)scalars in AdS_(4),marginal and irrelevant deformations in CFT_(3),and instantons on S^(3)

Employing a 4-form ansatz of 11-dimensional supergravity over a non-dynamical AdS_(4)×S^(7)/Z_(k)background and setting the internal space as an S1 Hopf fibration on CP3,we obtain a consistent ***(pseudo)scalars,in the resulting scalar equations in Euclidean AdS_(4)space,may be considered to arise from(anti)M-branes wrapping around the internal directions in the(Wick-rotated)skew-whiffed M2-brane background(as the resulting theory is for anti-M2-branes),thus realizing the modes after swapping the three fundamental representations 8_(s),8_(c),and 8_(v) of SO(8).Taking the backreaction on the external and internal spaces,we obtain the massless and massive modes,corresponding to exactly marginal and marginally irrelevant deformations on the boundary CFT3,***,we obtain a closed solution for the bulk equation and compute its correction with respect to the background ***,considering the Higgs-like(breathing)mode m^(2)=18,having all supersymmetries as well as parity and scale-invariance broken,solving the associated bulk equation with mathematical methods,specifically the Adomian decomposition method,and analyzing the behavior near the boundary of the solutions,we realize the boundary duals in the SU(4)×U(1)-singlet sectors of the ABJM ***,introducing the new dual deformationΔ_(+)=3,6 operators made of bi-fundamental scalars,fermions,and U(1)gauge fields,we obtain the SO(4)-invariant solutions as small instantons on a three-sphere with the radius at infinity,which correspond to collapsing bulk bubbles leading to big-crunch singularities.

The Hodgkin–Huxley model assumes independent ion channel activation,although mutual interactions are common in biological *** raises the problem why neurons would favor independent over cooperative channel *** this study,we evaluate how cooperative activation of sodium channels affects the neuron’s information processing and energy *** of the stochastic Hodgkin–Huxley model with cooperative activation of sodium channels show that,while cooperative activation enhances neuronal information processing capacity,it greatly increases the neuron’s energy *** a result,cooperative activation of sodium channel degrades the energy efficiency for neuronal information *** discovery improves our understanding of the design principles for neural systems,and may provide insights into future designs of the neuromorphic computing devices as well as systematic understanding of pathological mechanisms for neural diseases.
