Themodeling and risk assessment of a pandemic phenomenon such as COVID-19 is an important and complicated issue in epidemiology,and such an attempt is of great interest for public health *** this end,in the present study,based on a recent heuristic algorithm proposed by the authors,the time evolution of COVID-19 is investigated for six different countries/states,namely new york,California,USA,Iran,Sweden and *** number of COVID-19-related deaths is used to develop the proposed heuristic model as it is believed that the predicted number of daily deaths in each country/state includes information about the quality of the health system in each area,the age distribution of population,geographical and environmental factors as well as other *** on derived predicted epidemic curves,a new 3D-epidemic surface is proposed to assess the epidemic phenomenon at any time of its *** research highlights the potential of the proposed model as a tool which can assist in the risk assessment of the *** its development through 3D-epidemic surface can assist in revealing its dynamic nature as well as differences and similarities among different districts.

To assess the peripheral refractive changes that occur when eye growth decelerates in *** We measured peripheral refraction and on-axis vitreous chamber depth on a total of 53 marmosets;36 treated monocularly for 12 weeks 9 hrs/day(26 with-5 D contact lenses,10 with+5 D)and 17 untreated *** the 26 marmosets treated with-5 D,10 wore contact lenses 9 hrs/day without interruptions and were mea-sured at the end of 10 weeks of treatment(T10)and after 4 weeks of recovery(R14).Eight had both contact lenses removed for 30 mins twice/day(mid-morning and mid-afternoon)during the first four weeks of treatment(early interruption group)and eight had the lenses removed during the second four weeks of treatment(late interruption group).The two interruption groups were measured after 4,8 and 12 weeks of treatment only(T4,T8,T12).

AIM: To determine the prevalence of bipolar disorder(BD) and sub-threshold symptoms in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) through 14 years' follow-up, when participants were between 21-24 years ***: First, we examined rates of BD type Ⅰ?and Ⅱ diagnoses in youth participating in the NIMH-funded Multimodal Treatment Study of ADHD(MTA). We used the diagnostic interview schedule for children(DISC), administered to both parents(DISC-P) and youth(DISCY). We compared the MTA study subjects with ADHD(n = 579) to a local normative comparison group(LNCG, n = 289) at 4 different assessment points: 6, 8, 12, and 14 years of follow-ups. To evaluate the bipolar variants, we compared total symptom counts(TSC) of DSM manic and hypomanic symptoms that were generated by DISC in ADHD and LNCG subjects. Then we sub-divided the TSC into pathognomonic manic(PM) and non-specific manic(NSM) symptoms. We compared the PM and NSM in ADHD and LNCG at each assessment point and over time. We also evaluated the irritability as category A2 manic symptom in both groups and over time. Finally, we studied the irritability symptom in correlation with PM and NSM in ADHD and LNCG ***: DISC-generated BD diagnosis did not differ significantly in rates between ADHD(1.89%) and LNCG 1.38%). Interestingly, no participant met BD diagnosis more than once in the 4 assessment points in 14 years. However, on the symptom level, ADHD subjects reported significantly higher mean TSC scores: ADHD 3.0; LNCG 1.7; P < 0.001. ADHD status was associated with higher mean NSM: ADHD 2.0 vs LNCG 1.1; P < 0.0001. Also, ADHD subjects had higher PM symptoms than LNCG, with PM means over all time points of 1.3 ADHD; 0.9 LNCG; P = 0.0001. Examining both NSM and PM, ADHD status associated with greater NSM than PM. 随着中国总人口的不断增加以及改革开放以来经济的飞速发展,中国面临来自气候变化的健康威胁也在不断上升.与此同时,中国也处于一个独特的机遇窗口期,如果能够有效应对气候变化带来的健康风险,将造福今后几代人的健康.反之,如果没有及时、充分的应对措施,气候变化对中国居民健康和生命的威胁将与日俱增.为了推动更及时且有利于改善人群健康的气候应对行动,由清华大学牵头建立的柳叶刀倒计时亚洲中心在全球柳叶刀倒计时工作的基础上[1,2],从2020年开始,聚焦气候变化对中国人群健康的影响进行全面且系统的评估[3,4].

气候变化的趋势正在对全球的人群健康造成巨大的威胁,迫切需要各国密切协作,积极应对气候变化,为此《柳叶刀》(The Lancet)杂志成立了"柳叶刀健康与气候变化委员会"(以下简称柳叶刀委员会),评估气候变化对人群健康的影响,并寻找保障人群健康的应对气候变化措施.柳叶刀委员会在2015年报告基础上,启动了"柳叶刀倒计时:追踪健康与气候变化进展"项目(以下简称柳叶刀倒计时)[1],每年在《柳叶刀》上发表全球应对气候变化和保护人群健康的最新进展.

Since 1990s, advocated by the proponents of NPM （new public Management）, private sector management techniques and strategies have been introduced and adopted in governments in the U.S and around the world. It is believed that techniques and strategies such as computerized information system, performance measurement, results-based strategic management and organizational decentralization can cure the pathologies of public bureaucracy, improve government efficiency, effectiveness, and restore public trust toward government. After 10 years’ adoption and implementation, systematic reflection and evaluation on the effectiveness of those techniques and strategies are emerging. In this article, COMPSTAT, a goal oriented, results based, strategic management system initiated and adopted in the new york Police Department （NYPD） and "the most successful manifestations and applications of the tenets of NPM", is examined. After introducing its history, its philosophy and principles, and its constitutive elements, controversies over COMPSTAT such as its paradigmatic status, its effectiveness, i.e., its actual contribution to the dramatic crime reduction in NYC and its management scandals, are presented and discussed. At the end, suggestions for the further improvement of COMPSTAT are provided. It is revealed that though with great potentials, without scrutiny, deliberation and scrupulous implementation techniques and management strategies recommended by NPM do not necessarily achieve what it is supposed to achieve in public sector.
