Factors associated with healthy ageing:a comparative study between China and the United States

This study compares the associators of healthy ageing in China and the United States,using the 2005-2014 chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey(CLHLS)and the 2004-2014 Health and Retirement Study(HRS).Health ageing is measured using an overall healthy ageing index(HAI),defined according to five dimensions:no major chronic diseases,free of physical functional impairment,free of cognitive impairment,no depressive symptoms,and socially active *** logistic regression analysis is adopted to explore the association of demographic characteristics,socioeconomic status,and healthy lifestyles with the odds ratios of healthy ageing in China and the United *** indicate that the proportion of individuals experiencing healthy ageing is slightly higher in US than chinese older adults aged 65-100(25.67%vs 23.27%).Nevertheless,chinese oldest-old(80-100)have a higher proportion of healthy ageing than American oldest-old(15.05%vs.12.19%).Our results indicate that the odds of healthy ageing decrease with age,whereas they increase with education,income,marriage,and health *** odds of healthy ageing are lower for older chinese women than men,whereas the odds are higher for older US ***,non-white elders in the United States have significantly lower odds of healthy ageing than their white *** findings suggest certain similar patterns of healthy ageing across two countries,but distinct patterns do *** gender and racial equalities in healthy ageing are crucial for chinese and American policymakers,respectively.

Background Schistosoma mekongi is a human blood fluke causing schistosomiasis that threatens approximately 1.5 million humans in the world. Nonetheless, the limited availableS. mekongi genomic resources have hindered understanding of its biology and parasite-host interactions for disease management and pathogen control. The aim of our study was to integrate multiple technologies to construct a high-quality chromosome-level assembly of theS. mekongi *** The reference genome forS. mekongi was generated through integrating Illumina, PacBio sequencing, 10 × Genomics linked-read sequencing, and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) methods. In this study, we conducted de novo assembly, alignment, and gene prediction to assemble and annotate the genome. comparative genomics allowed us to compare genomes across different species, shedding light on conserved regions and evolutionary relationships. Additionally, our transcriptomic analysis focused on genes associated with parasite-snail interactions inS. mekongi infection. We employed gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis for functional annotation of these *** In the present study, theS. mekongi genome was both assembled into 8 pseudochromosomes with a length of 404 Mb, with contig N50 and scaffold N50 lengths of 1168 kb and 46,759 kb, respectively. We detected that 43% of the genome consists of repeat sequences and predicted 9103 protein-coding genes. We also focused on proteases, particularly leishmanolysin-like metalloproteases (M8), which are crucial in the invasion of hosts by 12 flatworm species. Through phylogenetic analysis, it was discovered that the M8 gene exhibits lineage-specific amplification among the genusSchistosoma. Lineage-specific expansion of M8 was observed in blood flukes. Most scientists worldwide have accepted anthropogenic climate change as a scientific fact. However, the awareness of climate change varies according to populations, regions, nations and cultures. The chinese government which agrees with this scientific consensus has made proactive efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. While making progress in certain areas, it is also confronted with multiple daunting challenges. The efforts made by the chinese government to fight climate change have brought the environmental constraints arising from the process of China's modernization to the attention of sociologists. This has helped call attention to the social complexity of policy design and practice in addressing climate change. Meanwhile, from the sociological perspective, this paper appeals to sociologists to do their utmost in improving the design and efficacy of climate change policies.

Drought is a worldwide natural disaster that has long affected agricultural production as well as social and economic activities. Frequent droughts have been observed in the Belt and Road area, in which much of the agricultural land is concentrated in fragile ecological environment. Based on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Satellite（TRMM） 3 B43 precipitation data, we used the Precipitation Abnormity Percentage drought model to study the monthly spatio-temporal distribution of drought in south region of N50° of the Belt and Road area. It was observed that drought during winter was mainly distributed in Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia, while it was mainly distributed in Central Asia and West Asia during summer. The occurrence of historical droughts indicates an obvious seasonal cycle. The regional variations in drought were analyzed using the Breaks for Additive Season and Trend tool（BFAST） in six sub-regions according to the spatial distribution of six economic corridors in the Belt and Road area. The average drought conditions over the 18 years show a slight decreasing trend in Northeast Asia, West Asia, North Africa, South Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, and a slight increasing trend in Central Asia. However, it was a fluctuating pattern of first increasing and then decreasing in Southeast Asia. The results indicate that the total drought area in the Belt and Road region showed a general decreasing trend at a rate of 40,260 km^2 per year from 1998 to 2015.
