The intrinsic developmental age signal defines an age-dependent climbing behavior in cucumber

The tendril is a climbing organ in cucurbits and functions in physical support and to avoid shading by neighboring ***,how cucurbits produce tendrils to obtain climbing ability is largely *** this study,tendril phenotypes were investigated during different developmental *** results revealed that tendril growth exhibited an age-dependent pattern in *** growth was inhibited,and the tendril was formed as a short tendril[nonfunctional tendril(nonF-tendril),approximately 0.1 cm]during the seedling *** contrast,enhanced cell proliferation and cell expansion led to rapid elongation of the tendril during the climbing stage,and the tendril formed as a functional tendril(F-tendril,approximately 30 cm)to obtain climbing ***-qPCR detection showed that age-dependent tendril growth correlated negatively with the abundance of the conserved age regulator *** induced CsmiR156 to inhibit CsSPLs,and F-tendril formation and climbing ability were delayed in defoliated cucumbers,which confirmed the role of CsmiR156 in regulating tendril growth in ***,exogenous gibberellin(GA)treatment showed that GA positively regulated tendril growth,and RT-qPCR detection showed that the GA bio-synthetic genes and metabolic genes were affected by age pathway,suggesting that the age pathway depended on GA bio-synthetic and metabolic pathway to regulate cell expansion to determine tendril *** summary,our work reveals that change in tendril type is an important marker of phase transition in cucumber,and tendril growth is regulated by an intrinsic developmental age signal,ensuring that the cucumber obtains climbing ability at a suitable age.

Soil salinization is a globally prevalent abiotic environmental *** imbalance of ions caused by high concentrations of sodium chloride results in a 40%reduction in soybean ***,as an important crop for soil quality improvement,necessitates the identification of salt-tolerant varieties and germplasms to effectively utilize and enhance saline-alkali *** this study,we assessed the salt tolerance of 435 soybean varieties and germplasms during the seedling *** them,Qihuang34,You2104,Hongzhudou,Pamanheidou,and Osage exhibited grade 1 salt tolerance rates surpassing other tested ***,Hongzhudou and Qihuang34 demonstrated higher salt tolerance during germination and emergence stages based on their elevated rates of emergence,salt tolerance index,chlorophyll content,and shoot fresh *** findings provide valuable resources for molecular breeding efforts aimed at developing salt-tolerant soybean varieties suitable for cultivation in saline-alkali soils.

Upland rice shows dryland adaptation in the form of a deeper and denser root system and greater drought resistance than its counterpart,irrigated *** previous study revealed a difference in the frequency of the OsNCED2 gene between upland and irrigated populations.A nonsynonymous mutation(C to T,from irrigated to upland rice)may have led to functional variation fixed by artificial selection,but the exact biological function in dryland adaptation is *** this study,transgenic and association analysis indicated that the domesticated fixed mutation caused functional variation in OsNCED2,increasing ABA levels,root development,and drought tolerance in upland rice under dryland ***2-overexpressing rice showed increased reactive oxygen species-scavenging abilities and transcription levels of many genes functioning in stress response and development that may regulate root development and drought ***2^(T)-NILs showed a denser root system and drought resistance,promoting the yield of rice under dryland ***2^(T)may confer dryland adaptation in upland rice and may find use in breeding dryland-adapted,water-saving rice.

Stretchable and environment-resistant doubly crosslinked hydrogel for all-in-one supercapacitor and strain sensors

Despite their importance as components for flexible electronics,most stretchable hydrogels suffer from incomplete recovery after deformation,are prone to failure upon long-term repeated stretching,and cannot be exploited at subzero temperatures because of the freezing of their constituent ***-quently,strategies for circumventing these drawbacks are highly sought *** study describes the synthesis of a doubly(chemically and physically)crosslinked hydrogel from gelatin and methacrylic acid and demonstrates the suitability of this material for the fabrication of high-performance stretchable and environment-resistant supercapacitors and strain *** performance of this supercapacitor(areal capacitance=1,210.2 mF/cm^(2) at a current density of 1 mA/cm^(2),maximum energy density=158.8μW.h/cm^(-1),maximum power density=659.5μW/cm^(2))was superior to that of most of integrated super-capacitors reported to date and was hardly affected by stretchable,low temperatures,bending,ice-cold water and strong acid/alkali solutions or long-term ***,a strain sensor based on the above hydrogel was capable of accurately capturing human body motions when affixed to skin and recognising mouse movement(even in humid environments)after implantation into mouse *** work may pave the way to high-performance stretchable and environment-resistant wearable electronics.

DIA-based proteome profiling with PRM verification reveals the involvement of ER-associated protein processing in pollen abortion in Ogura CMS cabbage

Ogura cytoplasmic male sterility(Ogura CMS)is extensively applied in hybrid seed production in cruciferous ***,the posttranscriptional molecular basis of Ogura CMS in cruciferous crops remains ***,a data-independent acquisition-based proteomic approach coupled with a parallel reaction monitoring-based targeted proteomic assay was used to analyze the proteome dynamics of Ogura CMS cabbage line RM and its maintainer line RF during floral bud development to obtain insights into the mechanism underlying Ogura CMS in cruciferous crops.A total of 9162 proteins corresponding to 61464 peptides were identified in RM and RF floral *** proteomic fluctuation of RM was weaker than that of *** in protein expression between RM and RF gradually enlarged with floral bud *** continually up-regulated and eight continually down-regulated proteins were found in RM relative to RF throughout floral bud *** expressed proteins between RM and RF during floral bud development were implicated in the endoplasmic reticulum(ER)-associated protein processing pathway,in which most of them exhibited down-regulated expression in *** data suggest that ER-associated protein processing may be involved in pollen abortion in Ogura CMS cabbage by inhibiting the expression of critical *** findings not only deepen the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of Ogura CMS in cruciferous crops but also provide better guidance for applying Ogura CMS in the hybrid breeding of cruciferous crops.

Genome-wide and candidate gene association studies identify BnPAP17 as conferring the utilization of organic phosphorus in oilseed rape

Phosphorus(P)is essential for living plants,and P deficiency is one of the key factors limiting the yield in rapeseed production *** the most important organ for plants,root morphology traits(RMTs)play a key role in P *** investigate the genetic variability of RMT under low P availability,we dissected the genetic structure of RMTs by genome-wide association studies(GWAS),linkage mapping and candidate gene association studies(CGAS).A total of 52 suggestive loci were associated with RMTs under P stress conditions in 405 oilseed rape *** purple acid phosphatase gene BnPAP17 was found to control the lateral root number(LRN)and root dry weight(RDW)under low P *** expression of BnPAP17 was increased in shoot tissue in P-efficient cultivars compared to root tissue and P-inefficient cultivars in response to low P ***,the haplotype of BnPAP17^(Hap3)was detected for the selective breeding of P efficiency in oilseed ***-expression of the BnPAP17^(Hap3)could promote the shoot and root growth with enhanced tolerance to low P stress and organic phosphorus(Po)utilization in oilseed ***,these findings increase our understanding of the mechanisms underlying BnPAP17-mediated low P stress tolerance in oilseed rape.

Many aphid species exhibit both cyclical parthenogenesis(CP)and the obligate parthenogenesis(OP)life history,which are genetically *** CP aphid lineages,the parthenogenetic individuals can switch from asexual to sexual reproduction quickly in response to environmental factors such as changes in photoperiod and ***,the OP aphid lineages do not undergo sexual reproduction under any *** far,mechanisms underlying the reproduction switch in CP aphids have not been fully *** padi,a serious worldwide insect pest of wheat,has both CP and OP *** diphosphate-glycosyltransferases(UGTs)are enzymes that participate in the metabolic detoxification of ***,we identified 43 RpUGT genes from *** genome and transcriptome sequences,and found that:(1)the UGT content of the CP lineage was significantly higher than that in the OP lineage at the key time points when CP lineage mainly produce virginoparae,gynoparae,and males under inducing condition,while there were no significant difference under normal conditions;(2)RpUGT344J7 gene was highly expressed during the time points when CP lineages produce gynopara and males;(3)the critical time points for CP lineages to produce virginoparaee,gynoparae,and males were affected when the CP lineages were injected with dsRpUGT344J7;(4)the knockdown of RpUGT344J7 caused a significant reduction in the total number of virginoparae,gynoparae,and males in the offspring under inducing *** findings contribute to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the quick shift from asexual to sexual reproduction in aphid species.

Short chain fatty acids(SCFA)exist in dietary foods and are produced by the fermentation of gut microbiota,and are considered an important element for regulating host *** blood circulation,SCFA produced in the gut and obtained from foods have an impact on the intestinal health as well as vital organs of the *** has been recognized that the gut is the“vital organ”in the *** the gut microbial metabolites,SCFA could create an“axis”connecting the gut and to other ***,the“gut-organ axes”have become a focus of research in recent years to analyze organism *** this review,we summarized the sources,absorption properties,and the function of SCFA in both gut and other peripheral tissues(brain,kidney,liver,lung,bone and cardiovascular)in the way of“gut-organ axes”.Short chain fatty acids exert both beneficial and pathological role in gut and other organs in various ways,in which the beneficial effects are more *** addition,the beneficial effects are reflected in both preventive and therapeutic *** importantly,the mechanisms behinds the gut and other tissues provided insight into the function of SCFA,assisting in the development of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies for maintaining the host health.
