Phenotypic Characterization and QTL/Gene Identification for Internode Number and Length Related Traits in Maize

Internode number and length are the foundation to constitute plant height, ear height and the above-ground spatial structure of maize plant. In this study, segregating populations were constructed between EHel with extremely low ear height and B73. Through the SNP-based genotyping and phenotypic characterization, 13 QTL distributed on the chromosomes (Chrs) of Chr1, Chr2, Chr5-Chr8 were detected for four traits of internode no. above ear (INa), average internode length above ear (ILaa), internode no. below ear (INb), and average internode length below ear (ILab). Phenotypic variation explained (PVE) by a single QTL ranged from 6.82% (qILab2-2) to 12.99% (qILaa5). Zm00001d016823 within the physical region of qILaa5, the major QTL for ILaa with the largest PVE was determined as the candidate through the genomic annotation and sequence alignment between EHel and B73. Product of Zm00001d016823 was annotated as a WEB family protein homogenous to At1g75720. qRT-PCR assay showed that Zm00001d016823 highly expressed within the tissue of internode, exhibiting statistically higher expression levels among internodes of IN4 to IN7 in EHel than those in B73 (P Zm00001d016823 might provide novel insight into molecular mechanism beyond phytohormones controlling internode development in maize.

The first photometric light curve investigation of the NSVS 8294044,V1023 Her,and V1397 Her binary systems is *** used ground-based observations for the NSVS 8294044 system and Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite data for V1023 Her and V1397 *** primary and secondary times of minima were extracted from al the data,and,by collecting the literature,a new ephemeris was computed for each *** fits for the O-C diagrams were conducted using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) *** curve solutions were performed using the PHysics Of Eclipsing BinariEs Python code and the MCMC *** systems were found to be contact binary stars based on the fillout factor and mass ratio.V1023 Her showed the O’Connell effect and a cold starspot on the secondary component was required for the light curve *** absolute parameters of the system were estimated based on an empirical relationship between orbital period and *** presented a new T–M equation based on a sample of 428 contact binary systems and found that our three target systems were in good agreement with the *** positions of the systems were also depicted on the M–L,M–R,q–L_(ratio),and M_(tot)–J_(0)diagrams in the logarithmic scales.

To the Editor,Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)is a chronic autoimmune systemic disease in which the immune system attacks healthy cells and tissues throughout the body with a broad variety of clinical manifestations,and is more prevalent in African American women and women than in other ethnic minority groups.1 The maximum estimation for the prevalence of SLE in the United States is about 320,000 patients.2 However,the first presentation of SLE often mimics a viral syndrome with constitutional symptoms,like,a low-grade fever,fatigue,and weight loss,and maybe arthralgia or arthritis;it may present in several other ways and have an abrupt onset with target-organ involvement,particularly in Hispanics(61%)and African Americans(45%)compared with Whites(41%).1 Neurological manifestations are common in SLE,named neuropsychiatric SLE,and its prevalence ranges between 14%and 95%,which is more common in children than *** involvement of the nervous system is coupled with worse outcomes and mortality rates vary from 2%to 45%.Psychoses,seizures,and cranial nerve involvement,in particular,have been given much ***,visual defects secondary to involvement of the visual pathways posterior to the optic chiasm,presenting as homonymous hemianopia,were rarely reported in SLE.3-5 On the other hand,homonymous hemianopia as the first manifestation of SLE is extremely rare in the *** this paper,we present a patient who experienced homonymous hemianopia as the initial presentation of SLE.

Continuous Gum Chewing Exercise Improves Perioral Muscle Strength

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of continuous gum chewing exercise on perioral muscle strength. Methods: Thirty healthy adults (24.1 ± 2.0 years) with normal occlusion performed gum chewing exercise 3 times daily for 3 months. Each exercise session lasted 5 min and involved alternating of chewing 10 times using the left molars and then 10 times using the right molars, with the mouth closed. The effect of the exercise on oral function was evaluated by measuring tongue pressure (TP), cheek pressure (CP), and labial closure strength (LCS) immediately before starting exercise, at 2 weeks and 1, 2, and 3 months after starting exercise, and at 3 months after cessation of exercise. Changes in TP, CP, and LCS according to sex and duration of exercise were analyzed by repeated two-way ANOVA. Results: Measurements for all muscles were significantly greater in men than in women at all time points. After starting exercise, TP was markedly increased at 2 months in men and women, and both CP and LCS were markedly increased at 2 weeks in men and at 1 month in women. These effects persisted for 3 months. Three months after cessation of exercise, TP, CP, and LCS tended to decrease, but were not significantly attenuated as compared with 3 months after beginning of exercise in either sex. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that gum chewing exercise contributed to an improvement in perioral muscle strength, and that this effect was maintained for at least 3 months after discontinuation of exercise.

As an important river in the western part of Jilin Province,the lower reach of the Nenjiang River is an important wetland water source conservation area in Jilin *** the watershed,it governs the Momoge Wetland,the Xianghai Wetland,and the Danjiang Wetland in Jilin *** main problem in the lower reaches of the Nenjiang River is the uneven distribution of water resources in time and space,and the intensification of land *** County and Da an City in the Nenjiang River Basin have sufficient surface water resources,with surface water as the drinking water *** City and Tongyu County have scarce surface water resources,and both use groundwater as their domestic water *** main polluted section in the basin is the Xianghai Reservoir,and the annual water quality evaluation is Class ***,the water quality of the Tao er River,the main stream of the Nenjiang River,is significantly better than that of the Xianghai *** order to better study the water environmental pollution situation in the Nenjiang River basin,monitoring data from five sections of non seasonal rivers in the basin from 2012 to 2021 were selected for studying water *** in-depth exploration of the water pollution status and river water quality change trends in the Nenjiang River basin is of great significance for future rural development,agricultural pattern transformation,and the promotion of water ecological civilization construction.
