discusses past and future developmentsin research on modern Chinese literature. The author believes that scholarshad been making such studies from Marxist perspectives and had producedwork of fairly high quality when, however, scholarship began to deteriorate inthe mid-1959s due to the increasing influence of the "leftist" trend of thought.A turn for the better has taken place since the overthrow of the "gang of four"and especially the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh central committeeof the Chinese communist party. This change conforms to the needs to recon-struct the field as well as to the laws of the advancement of the science; itmarks the maturation of the discipline. Nevertheless, new conditions andtasks have appeared and old shortcomings have not yet been overcome. Theauthor discusses some pressing questions in the current scholarship; he stressesthat study of the history of literature as well as analyses of writers and theirworks from Marxist perspectives and clarification of related basic theoreticalquestions are the key to the field’s development.

This article explores the Chinese literature on Chinese higher educational leadership in order to contribute to the international literature generally and facilitate Chinese higher education leadership research in *** seven themes identified in this literature are:the president accountability system led by the communist party of china(CPC)party committee;leadership team construction in universities and colleges;the common characteristics of university presidents in china;the accomplishments of university presidents;the relationship between university development and presidents’accomplishments the selection mechanism for university presidents;and the professionalization of governance and the professionalism of university *** research directions are also discussed in order to contribute the research in this area.

On September 11, 2017, the Seminar on china’s Theory and Practice of the Right to Peace was held at Nanjing University. It was jointly organized by the china Society for Human Rights Studies(CSHRS) and the Publicity department of the communist party of china Jiangsu Provincial committee, and co-hosted by the institute for International Strategic Studies at the central party School and the School of history at Nanjing University. More than 70 experts and scholars from universities and human rights institutes in china, and representatives of relevant governmental agencies and social organizations discussed in depth topics including "research on the Basic Theory of the Right to Peace," "Practice of the Right to Peace and Peace in china," "Traditional Chinese history and culture and the Right to Peace," "Peaceful Construction of a Community with a shared future for Mankind," "Right to Peace and Irenology," and "Promotion and Discipline Construction of Irenology." This seminar has not only expounded china’s peaceful development concept and its outstanding contributions to world peace from the perspective of human rights, but also facilitated the construction of a theoretical system of human rights with Chinese characteristics.
