Laser Machined Fiber‑Based Microprobe: Application in Microscale Electroporation

Scalable nanolaminated SERS multiwell cell culture assay

This paper presents a new cell culture platform enabling label-free surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)analysis of biological *** platform integrates a multilayered metal-insulator-metal nanolaminated SERS substrate and polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)multiwells for the simultaneous analysis of cultured *** cell lines,including breast normal and cancer cells and prostate cancer cells,were used to validate the applicability of this unique *** cell lines were cultured in different *** Raman spectra of over 100 cells from each cell line were collected and analyzed after 12h of introducing the cells to the *** unique Raman spectra of each cell line yielded biomarkers for identifying cancerous and normal cells.A kernel-based machine learning algorithm was used to extract the high-dimensional variables from the Raman ***,the nonnegative garrote on a kernel machine classifier is a hybrid approach with a mixed nonparametric model that considers the nonlinear relationships between the higher-dimension *** breast cancer cell lines and normal breast epithelial cells were distinguished with an accuracy close to 90%.The prediction rate between breast cancer cells and prostate cancer cells reached 94%.Four blind test groups were used to evaluate the prediction power of the SERS *** peak intensities at the selected Raman shifts of the testing groups were selected and compared with the training groups used in the machine learning *** blind testing groups were correctly predicted 100% of the time,demonstrating the applicability of the multiwell SERS array for analyzing cell populations for cancer research.

Raman spectroscopy of diesel and gasoline engine-out soot using different laser power

We studied engine-out soot samples collected from a heavy-duty direct-injection diesel engine and port-fuel injection gasoline spark-ignition engine. The two types of soot samples were characterized using Raman spectroscopy with different laser powers. A Matlab program using least-square-method with trust-region-reflective algorithm was developed for curve fitting. A DOE(design of experiments) method was used to avoid local convergence. The method was used for two-band fitting and three-band fitting. The fitting results were used to determine the intensity ratio of D(for "Defect" or "Disorder") and G(for"Graphite") Raman bands. It is found that high laser power may cause oxidation of soot sample, which gives higher D/G intensity ratio. Diesel soot has consistently higher amorphous/graphitic carbon ratio, and thus higher oxidation reactivity, compared to gasoline soot, which is reflected by the higher D/G intensity ratio in Raman spectra measured under the same laser power.

Adaptive actuator failure compensation and disturbance rejection scheme for spacecraft

An adaptive actuator failure compensation scheme is proposed for attitude tracking control of spacecraft with unknown disturbances and uncertain actuator failures. A new feature of this adaptive control scheme is the adaptation of the failure pattern parameter estimates, as well as the failure signal parameter estimates, for direct adaptive actuator failure compensation. Based on an adaptive backstepping control design, the estimates of the disturbance parameters are used to solve the disturbance rejection problem. The unknown disturbances are compensated completely with the stability of the whole closed-loop system. The scheme is not only able to accommodate uncertain actuator failures, but also robust against unknown external disturbances. Simulation results verify the desired adaptive actuator failure compensation performance.

Multi-leader multi-follower coordination with cohesion, dispersion, and containment control via proximity graphs

This paper studies the problem of multi-leader multi-follower coordination with proximity-based network topologies. The particular interest is to drive all the followers towards the convex hull formed by the moving leaders while producing cohesion behavior and keeping group dispersion. First, in the case of stationary leaders, we design a gradient-based continuous control algorithm. We show that with this continuous algorithm the control objective can be achieved, and the tracking error bound can be controlled by tuning some control parameters. We apply the continuous control algorithm to the moving leaders case and show that the tracking error bound is related to the velocities of the leaders. However, in this case, the algorithm has one restriction that the velocities of the leaders should depend on neighboring followers’ velocities, which might not be desirable in some scenarios. Therefore, we propose a nonsmooth algorithm for moving leaders which works under the mild assumption of boundedness of leaders’ velocities. Finally, we present numerical examples to show the validity of the proposed algorithms.
