This article presents an innovative method of bio-mediated soil improvement for increasing the shear strength of loose *** improvement is realized by mixing the loose sand with the inoculum of Rhizopus oligosporus,a kind of fungus widely used in food industry for making Indonesian *** objective of this article is to investigate the performance and mechanism of mixing tempeh inoculum as a binding agent of loose sand *** inoculum dosage,water content of loose sand,and curing time were examined for identifying the increment of unconfined compressive strength(q_u)of the *** results showed that q_u of the treated samples increased when the inoculum dosage was *** shows that 5.24%inoculum could yield 68 kPa of q_u,and 5%water content and 3 d curing time produced the maximum q_***,the mechanism of hypha and mycelium in binding the soil particles was clearly observed using a digital microscope and scanning electron microscope.

The nuclear ground state properties of even–even106–120Zr nuclei have been investigated within the framework of the relativistic mean field （RMF） *** RMF model with density-dependent DDME2 and DDPC1interactions is utilized for the calculation of potential energy curves,the nuclear ground-state deformation parameters （β2）,neutron separation energies (S_nand S2n) and neutron skin thickness (rnp) of selected Zr ***,the β-decay properties of Zr isotopes were studied using the proton-neutron quasi-particle random phase approximation （pn-QRPA） *** include Gamow–Teller strength distributions,β-decay half-lives and stellar electron emission/positron capture *** β2values computed from the RMF model were employed in the pn-QRPA model as an input parameter for the calculations of β-decay properties for even–even106–120Zr *** stellar rates were computed using the pn-QRPA framework with three different types of deformation *** at high temperature （T9≥2） and low density (ρYe≤10～7g cm-3) values,the sum of electron emission and positron capture rates has a sizeable contribution （with positive exponents） to the stellar rates.

Clay deposits typically exhibit significant degrees of heterogeneity and anisotropy in their strength and stiffness *** non-monotonic responses can significantly impact the stability analysis and design of overlying shallow *** this study,the undrained bearing capacity of shallow foundations resting on inhomogeneous and anisotropic clay layers subjected to oblique-eccentric combined loading is investigated through a comprehensive series of finite element limit analysis(FELA)based on the well-established lower-bound theorem and second-order cone programming(SOCP).The heterogeneity of normally consolidated(NC)clays is simulated by adopting a well-known general model of undrained shear strength increasing linearly with *** contrast,for overconsolidated(OC)clays,the variation of undrained shear strength with depth is considered to follow a bilinear ***,the inherent anisotropy is accounted for by adopting different values of undrained shear strength along different directions within the soil medium,employing an iterative-based *** results of numerical simulations are utilized to investigate the influences of natural soil heterogeneity and inherent anisotropy on the ultimate bearing capacity,failure envelope,and failure mechanism of shallow foundations subjected to the various combinations of vertical-horizontal(V-H)and vertical-moment(V-M)loads.

Non-seismically designed(NSD)beam-column joints are susceptible to joint shear failure under seismic *** significant research is available on the seismic behavior of such joints of planar frames,the information on the seismic behavior of joints of space frames(3D joints)is *** 3D joints are subjected to bi-directional excitation,which results in an interaction between the shear strength obtained for the joint in the two orthogonal directions *** bi-directional seismic behavior of corner reinforced concrete(RC)joints is the focus of this ***,a detailed finite element(FE)model using the FE software Abaqus,is developed and validated using the test results from the *** validated modeling procedure is used to conduct a parametric study to investigate the influence of different parameters such as concrete strength,dimensions of main and transverse beams framing into the joint,presence or absence of a slab,axial load ratio and loading direction on the seismic behavior of *** subjecting the models to different combinations of loads on the beams along perpendicular directions,the interaction of the joint shear strength in two orthogonal directions is *** comparison of the interaction curves of the joints obtained from the numerical study with a quadratic(circular)interaction curve indicates that in a majority of cases,the quadratic interaction model can represent the strength interaction diagrams of RC beam to column connections with governing joint shear failure reasonably well.

Concrete is one of the most important elements in building ***,concrete used in construction is susceptible to damage due to *** influence of corrosive substances causes changes in the reinforcing steel and affects the strength of the *** repair method is one approach to overcome this *** research aims to determine the effect of grouting and jacketing repairs on corroded *** concrete used has dimensions of 15 cm×15 cm×60 cm with planned corrosion variations of 50%,60%,and 70%.The test objects were tested using the Non-Destructive Testing(NDT)method using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity(UPV).The test results show that the average speed of normal concrete is 5070 m/s,while the lowest average speed is 3070 m/s on the 70%planned corrosion test *** test object was then given a load of 1600 *** this stage,there is a decrease in speed and wave shape with the lowest average speed obtained at 2753 m/*** repair method is an effort to restore concrete performance by using grouting and *** is done by injecting mortar material into *** involves adding thickness to the existing concrete layer with additional layers of *** improvements were made,there was an improvement in the UPV test,with a peak speed value of 4910 m/*** concrete by filling cracks can improve concrete continuity and reduce waveform distortion,thereby increasing wave propagation speed.

Effect of surface crack on the bearing capacity of strip footing placed on rock mass

In hilly regions,the existence of surface cracks in rock mass induces a potential threat to structural ***,the present research aims to explore the impact of surface cracks on the loadbearing capacity of strip footing placed on the rock *** taking into account the various boundary constraints across the surface of crack edges,the study investigates the presence of two categories of surface cracks,namely(1)separated crack,and(2)fine *** lower bound limit analysis is employed in conjunction with the finite element method(LBFELA)to conduct the numerical *** order to evaluate rock mass yielding,the power conic programming(PCP)method is utilized to implement the generalized Hoek-Brown(GHB)failure *** stability of the strip footing is analyzed by determining the bearing capacity factor(Nσγ),which is presented in the form of design charts by varying the strength parameters of rock,including the Geological Strength Index(GSI),Hoek-Brown material parameter(mi),Disturbance factor(D),and Normalised Uniaxial Compressive Strength(σci/γB),whereγis the unit weight of rock mass,and B is the width of strip *** study also investigates the impact of cracks on strip footings,considering different positions of the crack(LC)and depths of the crack(DC).The results demonstrate that the influence of the fine crack is only noticeable until the LC/B ratio reaches ***,for the separated crack,its impact remains significant even when the LC/B ratio exceeds *** appearance of fine crack at the edge of the footing results in a decrease in the magnitude Nσγof up to 45%,indicating a substantial reduction in the stability of the *** failure patterns are presented and discussed in detail for various cases in this study to examine the effect of surface cracks on the strip footing and to address the extent of the plastic collapse.

Sudden and unforeseen seismic failures of coal mine overburden(OB)dump slopes interrupt mining operations,cause loss of lives and delay the production of *** of the spatial heterogeneity of OB dump materials is imperative for an adequate evaluation of the seismic stability of OB dump *** this study,pseudo-static seismic stability analyses are carried out for an OB dump slope by considering the material parameters obtained from an insitu field *** heterogeneity is simulated through use of the random finite element method(RFEM)and the random limit equilibrium method(RLEM)and a comparative study is *** of horizontal and vertical spatial correlation lengths were considered for simulating isotropic and anisotropic random fields within the OB dump *** performances of the slope have been reported through the probability of failure and reliability *** was observed that the RLEM approach overestimates failure probability(P_(f))by considering seismic stability with spatial *** P_(f)was observed to increase with an increase in the coefficient of variation of friction angle of the dump ***,it was inferred that the RLEM approach may not be adequately applicable for assessing the seismic stability of an OB dump slope for a horizontal seismic coefficient that is more than or equal to 0.1.

Predicting the Construction Quality of Projects by Using Hybrid Soft Computing Techniques

The construction phase of a project is a critical factor that significantly impacts its overall *** construction environment is characterized by uncertainty and dynamism,involving nonlinear relationships among various factors that affect construction *** study utilized 987 construction inspection records from 1993 to 2022,obtained from the Taiwan residents Public Construction Management Information System(PCMIS),to determine the relationships between construction factors and ***,fuzzy logic was applied to calculate the weights of 499 defects,and 25 critical construction factors were selected based on these weight ***,a deep neural network was used to identify the relationship between the critical construction factors(input variables)and construction quality(output variable).Finally,the prediction model’s performance was evaluated to confirm the impact of these critical construction factors on project *** study employed an innovative hybrid soft computing technique,com-bining fuzzy logic and an artificial neural network,to effectively predict the relationship between critical construction factors and construction quality,achieving a model accuracy of 96.08%.Project managers can utilize the findings of this study to enhance project management practices and establish effective construction management strategies,thereby improving project construction quality.
