In the field of cell studies,there is a burgeoning trend to further downscale the investigation from a single-cell level to a sub-single-cell *** matter is the basic content in cells and correlates with cell ***-single cellular studies focus on the subcellular matter in single cells and aim to understand the details and heterogeneity of individual cells in terms of the subcellular matter or even at the single component/vesicle/molecule ***,sub-single cellular studies can provide deeper insights into fundamental cell biology and the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies and ***,the contents of a single cell are not only ultra-small in volume but also extremely complex in composition,far exceeding the capabilities of most tools used in current cell *** believe that nanofluidics holds great potential in providing ideal tools for sub-single cellular studies,not only because of their capability to handle femtoliter/attoliter-scale samples,but also because of their possibility to manipulate and analyze subcellular matters at the single component/vesicle/molecule level in a high-throughput *** this review,we summarize the efforts in the field of nanofluidics for sub-single cellular studies,focusing on nascent progress and critical technologies that have the potential to overcome the technical *** challenges and future opportunities to integrate with information sciences are also discussed.

Since human genome sequencing has been almost completed, human genome project will quickly move on to the post genome sequencing era, including single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis, functional genomics, mutation analysis, transcriptome analysis, proteome analysis, and metabolome analysis[1,2]. Capillary array electrophoresis with 96-384 capillaries plays a vital role in the genome sequencing era, but in the post human genome sequencing era, further development of analytical technology for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), protein, and metabolites is highly required for future medicine and new drug discovery technology based on functional genomics and proteomics[3-13].

Plant regeneration in the new era:from molecular mechanisms to biotechnology applications

Objective:Epidemiological studies show that the incidence of cardiovascular disease is higher in men than in premenopausal women but increases in postmenopausal *** elucidate molecular mechanism of ovarian hormone mediated protection against left ventricular(LV)hypertrophy and remodeling,we analyzed cardiac functions as well as hypertrophy-related protein expression in ovariectomized and aortic banded ***: Female Wistar rats(7 weeks old)weighing 150-200 g were subjected to bilateral ovariectomy(OVX)and sham *** weeks after ovariectomy,pressure overload(PO)cardiac hypertrophy was initiated in both groups by abdominal aortic banding using 25-gauge needle(outside diameter,0.5 mm).Four weeks after aortic banding LV morphology and functions were assessed using echocardiography and expression of proteins were determined by Western blot analysis.A subgroup of rats was further treated with isoproterenol(5 mg/kg)intraperitoneally once a day for four weeks and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis were ***:The LV weight/body weight ratio significantly increased in the OVX-PO group compared to OVX group and in the PO group compared to *** most significant increases in left ventricular end diastolic pressure,left ventricular developed pressure and left ventricular contractility(±dp/dt)were observed in the OVX-PO group compared to OVX group,reflecting compensatory phenotypes against *** eNOS expression and its activity were markedly reduced and Akt activity was largely attenuated in the OVX-PO ***,significant increased expressions on the eNOS regulatory proteins including HSP 90 and Caveolin 3 were observed in the hearts of the OVX *** further reduced their expression on the OVX-PO ***,significant increased mortality was observed in the OVX-PO group following chronic isoproterenol ***:Our results demonstrate that rats subject to ovariectomy are unable to compensate for hypertrophy and dete

Polyacrylamide(PAM)is generally employed in wastewater treatment processes such as sludge dewatering and therefore exists in the ***,it degrades slowly and can deteriorate methane yield during anaerobic digestion(AD).The impact or fate of PAM in AD under thermophilic conditions is still *** study mainly focuses on PAM degradation and enhanced methane production from PAM-added sludge during 15 days of thermophilic(55°C)AD compared to mesophilic(35°C)*** and PAM dose from 10 to 50 g/kg TSS were *** results showed that PAM degraded by 76%to 78%with acrylamide(AM)content of 0.2 to 3.3 mg/L in thermophilic ***,it degraded only 21%to 30%with AM content of 0.5 to 7.2 mg/L in mesophilic *** methane yield was almost 230 to 238.4 mL/g VSS on the 8th day in thermophilic AD but was 115.2 to 128.6 mL/g VSS in mesophilic *** investigation revealed that thermophilic AD with continuous stirring not only enhanced PAM degradation but also boosted the organics release from the sludge with added PAM and gave higher methane yield than mesophilic AD.
