Selective and self-validating breath-level detection of hydrogen sulfide in humid air by gold nanoparticle-functionalized nanotube arrays

We demonstrate the selective detection of hydrogen sulfide at breath concentration levels under humid airflow,using a self-validating 64-channel sensor array based on semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes(sc-SWCNts).the reproducible sensor fabrication process is based on a multiplexed and controlled dielectrophoretic deposition of *** sensing area is functionalized with gold nanoparticles to address the detection at room temperature by exploiting the affinity between gold and sulfur atoms of the *** devices functionalized with an optimized distribution of nanoparticles show a sensitivity of 0.122%/part per billion(ppb)and a calculated limit of detection(LOD)of 3 *** the self-validation,our sensors show increased stability and higher response levels compared to some commercially available electrochemical *** cross-sensitivity to breath gases NH3 and NO is addressed demonstrating the high selectivity to ***,mathematical models of sensors’electrical characteristics and sensing responses are developed to enhance the differentiation capabilities of the platform to be used in breath analysis applications.

the discussed topic of isolating certain parameters which describe the timbre in connection with bocals of bassoons is of major interest for manufacturers and artist likewise since a reduction in the overall shear stress of these kinds of technical diffusors is very helpful but not sufficient. the timbre seen from the side of the musician has to be the same. Up to now two criteria have been isolated which have a deep influence on the easier blowing of the bassoon and on the comparable timbre due to geometrical reasons. If the geometrical outer contour is designed carefully, it is possible to modify the shape and preserve the timbre.

With the increasing demand of light structure composite in industry, carbon and glass fibres are more and more used, because of their light mass, high strength, high temperature endurance and erosion resistance. this paper focuses on the process of forming a preform. Up to the finished preform, the multilayer reinforced fabrics are subjected to the following procedures: pattern design, cutting and sewing. Considering the fabric properties, the 3-dimensional CAD software and sewing machines, which are generally used in the clothing industry, are also suitable for the processing of the reinforced fabrics. this study aims also to the changes of property arising from the sewing process. Bending stiffness and changes of thickness after sewing are studied. these properties will provide input data for CAD pattern design.

Ultrasensitive detection of Ebola matrix protein in a memristor mode

We demonstrate the direct biosensing of the Ebola VP40 matrix protein, using a memristor mode of a liquid-integrated nanodevice, based on a large array of honeycomb-shaped silicon nanowires. to shed more light on the principle of biodetection using memristors, we engineered the opening of the current-minima voltage gap VG by involving the third gap-control electrode （gate voltage, VG） into the system. the primary role of VG is to mimic the presence of the charged species of the desired sign at the active area of the sensor. We further showed the advantages of biodetection with an initially opened controlled gap （Vc~ ~a 0）, which allows the detection of the lowest concentrations of the biomolecules carrying arbitrary positive or negative charges; this feature was not present in previous configurations. We compared the bio-memristor performance, in terms of its detection range and sensitivity, to that of the already-known field-effect transistor （FEt） mode by operating the same device. to our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of Ebola matrix protein detection using a nanoscaled electrical sensor.

We consider a singularly perturbed semilinear convection-diffusion problem with a boundary layer of attractive turning-point type. It is shown that its solution can be decomposed into a regular solution component and a layer component. this decomposition is used to analyse the convergence of an upwinded finite difference scheme on Shishkin meshes.

Performance demonstration of the PENELOPE main amplifier HEPA I using broadband nanosecond pulses

We report on the energetic and beam quality performance of the second to the last main amplifier section HEPA I of the PENELOPE laser project. A polarization coupled double-12-pass scheme to verify the full amplification capacity of the last two amplifiers HEPA I and II was used. the small signal gain for a narrow-band continuous wave laser was 900 and 527 for a broadband nanosecond pulse, demonstrating 12.6 J of output pulse energy. those pulses, being spectrally wide enough to support equivalent 150 fs long ultrashort pulses, are shown with an excellent spatial beam quality. A first active correction of the wavefront using a deformable mirror resulted in a Strehl ratio of 76% in the single-12-pass configuration for HEPA I.

Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)is a common clinical practice to visualize defects and to distinguish different tissue types and pathologies in the human *** far,MRI data have not been used to model and generate a patient-specific design of multilayered tissue substitutes in the case of interfacial *** orthopedic cases that require highly individual surgical treatment,implant fabrication by additive manufacturing holds great ***-based techniques like 3D plot-ting allow the spatially defined application of several materials,as well as implementation of bioprinting *** the example of a typical multi-zonal osteochondral defect in an osteochondritis dissecans(OCD)patient,this study aimed to close the technological gap between MRI analysis and the additive manufacturing process of an implant based on dif-ferent biomaterial inks.A workflow was developed which covers the processing steps of MRI-based defect identification,segmentation,modeling,implant design adjustment,and implant generation.A model implant was fabricated based on two biomaterial inks with clinically relevant properties that would allow for bioprinting,the direct embedding of a patient’s own cells in the printing *** demonstrated by the geometric compatibility of the designed and fabricated model implant in a stereolithography(SLA)model of lesioned femoral condyles,a novel versatile CAD/CAM workflow was successfully established that opens up new perspectives for the treatment of multi-zonal(osteochondral)defects.
