Exploiting Internal Parallelism of SSD for Hash Join

By regarding a Solid-state drive(SSD) as a black box and observing its external behavior instead of peeping into its internal details, we investigate how the factors of I/O granularity and I/O queue depth influence the throughput of an SSD through a series of experiments and relate to the internal parallelism of an SSD, and then propose the concept of Combination equivalence class(CEC) as the set of combination pairs of these two factors.A novel buffer allocation scheme for hash join over SSDs is invented by taking both factors into account. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our scheme.

Computer based modelling and simulation has become useful tools to facilitate humans to understand systems in different domains, such as physics, astrophysics, chemistry, biology, economics, engineering and social science. A complex system is featured with a large number of interacting components （agents, processes, etc.）, whose aggregate activities are nonlinear and self-organized. Complex systems are hard to be simulated or modelled by using traditional computational approaches due to the complex relationships of components and distributed features of resources, and dynamic work environments. Meanwhile, smart systems such as multi-agent systems have demonstrated advantages and great potentials in modelling and simulating complex systems.

A weighted edge-coloured graph is a graph for which each edge is assigned both a positive weight and a discrete colour, and can be used to model transportation and computer networks in which there are multiple transportation modes. In such a graph paths are compared by their total weight in each colour, resulting in a Pareto set of minimal paths from one vertex to another. This paper will give a tight upper bound on the cardinality of a minimal set of paths for any weighted edge-coloured graph. Additionally, a bound is presented on the expected number of minimal paths in weighted edge-bicoloured graphs. These bounds indicate that despite weighted edge-coloured graphs are theoretically intractable, amenability to computation is typically found in practice.

Social media have dramatically changed the mode of information *** models and algorithms have been developed to model information diffusion and address the influence maximization problem in complex social ***,it appears difficult for state-of-the-art models to interpret complex and reversible real interactive *** this paper,we propose a novel influence diffusion model,i.e.,the Operator-Based Model(OBM),by leveraging the advantages offered from the heat diffusion based model and the agent-based *** OBM improves the performance of simulated dissemination by considering the complex user context in the operator of the heat diffusion based *** experiment obtains a high similarity of the OBM simulated trend to the real-world diffusion process by use of the dynamic time warping ***,a novel influence maximization algorithm,i.e.,the Global Topical Support Greedy algorithm(GTS-Greedy algorithm),is proposed corresponding to the *** experimental results demonstrate its promising performance by comparing it against other classic algorithms.

In this paper, a recently developed nature-inspired optimization algorithm called the hydrological cycle algorithm (HCA) is evaluated on the traveling salesman problem (TSP). The HCA is based on the continuous movement of water drops in the natural hydrological cycle. The HCA performance is tested on various geometric structures and standard benchmarks instances. The HCA has successfully solved TSPs and obtained the optimal solution for 20 of 24 benchmarked instances, and near-optimal for the rest. The obtained results illustrate the efficiency of using HCA for solving discrete domain optimization problems. The solution quality and number of iterations were compared with those of other metaheuristic algorithms. The comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness of the HCA.

Pt-based catalysts are used commercially for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),even though the low earth abundance and high cost of platinum hinder scale-up *** metal is a promising alternative catalyst for HER owing to its lower cost but similar metal-hydrogen bond strength to ***,designing an efficient and robust Ru-based electrocatalyst for pHuniversal HER is ***,we successfully synthesized N-doped carbon(NC)supported ruthenium catalysts with different Ru sizes(single-atoms,nanoclusters and nanoparticles),and then systematically evaluated their performance for *** these catalysts,the Ru nanocluster catalyst(Ru NCs/NC)displayed optimal catalytic performance with overpotentials of only 14,30,and 32 mV(at 10 mA·cm^(-2))in 1 M KOH,1 M phosphate buffer saline(PBS),and 0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4),*** corresponding mass activities were 32.2,12.1 and 8.1 times higher than those of 20 wt.%Pt/C,and also much better than those of the Ru single-atoms(Ru SAs/NC)and Ru nanoparticle(Ru NPs/NC)catalysts,at an overpotential of 100 mV under alkaline,neutral and acidic conditions,*** functional theory(DFT)calculations revealed that the outstanding HER performance of the Ru NCs/NC catalyst resulted from a strong interaction between the Ru nanoclusters and the N-doped carbon support,which downshifted the d-band center and thus weakened the*H adsorption ability of Ru sites.

Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)offers many advantages for the fast and sensitive detection of specific compounds,metal ions or pathogens in foods,motivating to its increasing utilization in food ***-tags,typically constructed using signal enhanced substrate,Raman reporter molecules,a biocompatible protective layer and a specific recognition element,provide a powerful tool for the analysis of food *** article reviews recent progress in the development of SERS-tags for food safety assessment covering SERS-tags with characteristic peaks in the“fingerprint”region(800-1800 cm-1)and the“biological-silent”region(1800-2800 cm-1).Following a brief description of SERS substrates,the design,synthesis and applications of SERS-tag are explored in *** application of SERS-tags technology for the detection of microorganisms,pesticides and antibiotics are then ***,the prospects of using SERS-tag in real-world food safety analysis are critically discussed.
