Prevalence of Nutritional Risk, Undernutrition, Overweight/Obesity and Application of Nutritional support Among Geriatric Patients at peking university people’s hospital

Objective To investigate the prevalence of nutritional risk, undernutrition, overweight/obesity, and the application of nutritional support among geriatrics so as to provide evidence for whether elderly inpatients with undernutrition and nutritional risk should receive timely nutritional support. Methods A total of 445 elderly inpatients in the Department of Geriatrics of peking university people’s hospital were consecutively enrolled from July 2010 to June 2011. The Nutritional Risk screening 2002 (NRs 2002) questionnaire was used on the second day after admission. The application of nutritional support was investigated on the 14th day or the discharge day. The relationship between the nutritional risk and nutritional support was analyzed. A NRs 2002 score ≥ 3 was defined as nutritional risk. A body mass index (BMI)s defined as malnutrition, 24.0 kg/m2 ≤ BMI s overweight, and a BMI ≥ 28.0 kg/m2 as obese. Results A total of 445 patients were enrolled and 423 patients (95.1%) completed the NRs 2002. The prevalence of undernutrition and nutritional risk was 4.7% and 13.2%, respectively. Among 230 patients who were overweight/obese, the prevalence of nutritional risk was 6.1%. In total, 15 of the 56 patients (26.8%) with NRs 2002 scores ≥ 3 received nutritional support, and 14 patients (3.8%) with NRs 2002 scores so received nutritional support. The average PN: EN ratio was 1.6:1. Conclusion A certain proportion of elderly inpatients in the department of geriatrics were experiencing undernutrition or were at nutritional risk. The prevalence of nutritional risk did not increase significantly with age. The current application of nutritional therapy is inappropriate. Evidence-based guidelines are required to improve this situation. The NRs 2002 may not applicable for overweight/obese elderly inpatients.

FK506(Tacrolimus)is a systemic immunosuppressant approved by the *** and Drug ***506 has been shown to promote peripheral nerve regeneration,however,its precise mechanism of action and its pathways remain *** this study,we established a rat model of sciatic nerve injury and found that FK506 improved the morphology of the injured sciatic nerve,increased the numbers of motor and sensory neurons,reduced inflammatory responses,markedly improved the conduction function of the injured nerve,and promoted motor function *** findings suggest that FK506 promotes peripheral nerve structure recovery and functional regeneration by reducing the intensity of inflammation after neuronal injury and increasing the number of surviving neurons.

Reconstruction characteristics of gut microbiota from patients with type 1 diabetes affect the phenotypic reproducibility of glucose metabolism in mice

The human microbiota-associated(HMA) mice model, especially the germ-free(GF)-humanized mice, has been widely used to probe the causal relationships between gut microbiota and human diseases such as type 1 diabetes(T1D). However, most studies have not clarified the extent to which the reconstruction of the human donor microbiota in recipient mice correlates with corresponding phenotypic reproducibility. In this study, we transplanted fecal microbiota from five patients with T1D and four healthy people into GF mice, and microbiota from each donor were transplanted into 10 mice. Mice with similar microbiota structure to the donor exhibited better phenotypic reproducibility. The characteristics of the microbial community assembly of donors also influenced the phenotypic reproducibility in mice, and individuals with a higher proportion of stochastic processes showed more severe disorders. Microbes enriched in patients with T1D had a stronger colonization potential in mice with impaired glucose metabolism, and microbiota functional features related to T1D were better reproduced in these mice. This indicates that assembly traits and colonization efficacy of microbiota influence phenotypic reproducibility in GF-humanized mice. Our findings provide important insights for using HMA mice models to explore links between gut microbiota and human diseases.

MXene Hybridized Polymer with Enhanced Electromagnetic Energy Harvest for sensitized Microwave Actuation and self‑Powered Motion sensing

Polymeric microwave actuators combining tissue-like softness with programmablemicrowave-responsive deformation hold great promise for mobile intelligentdevices and bionic soft robots. However, their application is challenged by restricted electromagneticsensitivity and intricate sensing coupling. In this study, a sensitized polymericmicrowave actuator is fabricated by hybridizing a liquid crystal polymer with Ti3C2Tx(MXene). Compared to the initial counterpart, the hybrid polymer exhibits unique spacechargepolarization and interfacial polarization, resulting in significant improvements of230% in the dielectric loss factor and 830% in the apparent efficiency of electromagneticenergy harvest. The sensitized microwave actuation demonstrates as the shortenedresponse time of nearly 10 s, which is merely 13% of that for the initial shape memory polymer. Moreover, the ultra-low content of MXene (upto 0.15 wt%) benefits for maintaining the actuation potential of the hybrid polymer. An innovative self-powered sensing prototype that combinesdriving and piezoelectric polymers is developed, which generates real-time electric potential feedback (open-circuit potential of ~ 3 mV) duringactuation. The polarization-dominant energy conversion mechanism observed in the MXene-polymer hybrid structure furnishes a new approachfor developing efficient electromagnetic dissipative structures and shows potential for advancing polymeric electromagnetic intelligent devices.

High Fe‑Loading single‑Atom Catalyst Boosts ROs Production by Density Effect for Efficient Antibacterial Therapy

The current single-atom catalysts(sACs)for medicine still suffer from the limited active site ***,we develop a synthetic method capable of increasing both the metal loading and mass-specific activity of sACs by exchanging zinc with *** constructed iron sACs(h^(3)-FNC)with a high metal loading of 6.27 wt%and an optimized adjacent Fe distance of~4 A exhibit excellent oxidase-like catalytic performance without significant activity decay after being stored for six months and promising antibacterial ***,a“density effect”has been found at a high-enough metal doping amount,at which individual active sites become close enough to interact with each other and alter the electronic structure,resulting in significantly boosted intrinsic activity of single-atomic iron sites in h^(3)-FNCs by 2.3 times compared to low-and medium-loading ***,the overall catalytic activity of h^(3)-FNC is highly improved,with mass activity and metal mass-specific activity that are,respectively,66 and 315 times higher than those of commercial Pt/*** addition,h^(3)-FNCs demonstrate efficiently enhanced capability in catalyzing oxygen reduction into superoxide anion(O_(2)·^(−))and glutathione(GsH)*** in vitro and in vivo assays demonstrate the superior antibacterial efficacy of h^(3)-FNCs in promoting wound *** work presents an intriguing activity-enhancement effect in catalysts and exhibits impressive therapeutic efficacy in combating bacterial infections.

Vaccinations are essential for preventing and treating disease,especially cancer nanovaccines,which have gained considerable interest recently for their strong anti-tumor immune *** can prompt the immune system to generate antibodies and activate various immune cells,leading to a response against tumor tissues and reducing the negative effects and recurrence risks of traditional chemotherapy and *** enhance the flexibility and targeting of vaccines,nanovaccines utilize nanotechnology to encapsulate or carry antigens at the nanoscale level,enabling more controlled and precise drug delivery to enhance immune *** nanovaccines function by encapsulating tumor-specific antigens or tumor-associated antigens within *** small size of these nanomaterials allows for precise targeting of T cells,dendritic cells,or cancer cells,thereby eliciting a more potent anti-tumor *** this paper,we focus on the classification of carriers for cancer nanovaccines,the roles of different target cells,and clinically tested cancer nanovaccines,discussing strategies for effectively inducing cytotoxic T lymphocytes responses and optimizing antigen presentation,while also looking ahead to the translational challenges of moving from animal experiments to clinical trials.

Regulated cell death is a form of cell death that is actively controlled by *** studies have shown that regulated cell death plays a key role after spinal cord *** and ferroptosis are newly discovered types of regulated cell deaths that have been shown to exacerbate inflammation and lead to cell death in damaged spinal ***,a complex form of cell death that is interconnected with various regulated cell death mechanisms,has garnered significant attention in the study of spinal cord *** injury triggers not only cell death but also cellular survival *** signaling pathways play pivotal roles in influencing the processes of both deterioration and repair in spinal cord injury by regulating pyroptosis,ferroptosis,and ***,this review aims to comprehensively examine the mechanisms underlying regulated cell deaths,the signaling pathways that modulate these mechanisms,and the potential therapeutic targets for spinal cord *** analysis suggests that targeting the common regulatory signaling pathways of different regulated cell deaths could be a promising strategy to promote cell survival and enhance the repair of spinal cord ***,a holistic approach that incorporates multiple regulated cell deaths and their regulatory pathways presents a promising multi-target therapeutic strategy for the management of spinal cord injury.

Hydrogel scaffolds have numerous potential applications in the tissue engineering ***,tough hydrogel scaffolds implanted in vivo are seldom reported because it is difficult to balance biocompatibility and high mechanical *** by Chinese ramen,we propose a universal fabricating method(printing-P,training-T,cross-linking-C,PTC&PCT)for tough hydrogel scaffolds to fill this ***,3D printing fabricates a hydrogel scaffold with desired structures(P).Then,the scaffold could have extraordinarily high mechanical properties and functional surface structure by cycle mechanical training with salting-out assistance(T).Finally,the training results are fixed by photo-cross-linking processing(C).The tough gelatin hydrogel scaffolds exhibit excellent tensile strength of 6.66 MPa(622-fold untreated)and have excellent ***,this scaffold possesses functional surface structures from nanometer to micron to millimeter,which can efficiently induce directional cell ***,this strategy can produce bionic human tissue with mechanical properties of 10 kPa-10 MPa by changing the type of salt,and many hydrogels,such as gelatin and silk,could be improved with PTC or PCT *** experiments show that this scaffold can effectively promote the new generation of muscle fibers,blood vessels,and nerves within 4 weeks,prompting the rapid regeneration of large-volume muscle loss injuries.

Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of inherited diseases that lead to retinal degeneration and photoreceptor cell ***,there is no effective treatment for retinitis pigmentosa caused by PDE6B ***-associated virus(AAV)-mediated gene therapy is a promising strategy for treating retinitis *** aim of this study was to explore the molecular mechanisms by which AAV2-PDE6B rescues retinal *** do this,we injected retinal degeneration 10(rd10)mice subretinally with AAV2-PDE6B and assessed the therapeutic effects on retinal function and structure using dark-and light-adapted electroretinogram,optical coherence tomography,and ***-independent acquisition-mass spectrometry-based proteomic analysis was conducted to investigate protein expression levels and pathway enrichment,and the results from this analysis were verified by real-time polymerase chain reaction and western ***2-PDE6B injection significantly upregulated PDE6βexpression,preserved electroretinogram responses,and preserved outer nuclear layer thickness in rd10 *** expressed proteins between wild-type and rd10 mice were closely related to visual perception,and treating rd10 mice with AAV2-PDE6B restored differentially expressed protein expression to levels similar to those seen in wild-type *** Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome analysis showed that the differentially expressed proteins whose expression was most significantly altered by AAV2-PDE6B injection were enriched in phototransduction ***,the phototransductionrelated proteins Pde6α,Rom1,Rho,Aldh1a1,and Rbp1 exhibited opposite expression patterns in rd10 mice with or without AAV2-PDE6B ***,Bax/Bcl-2,p-ERK/ERK,and p-c-Fos/c-Fos expression levels decreased in rd10 mice following AAV2-PDE6B *** data suggest that AAV2-PDE6B-mediated gene therapy promotes phototransduction and inhibits apoptosis by inhibiting the ERK signaling pathway and upr
