The population aged 60 and over in China reached approximately 297 million in 2023 according to the National Bureau of Statistics,accounting for 21.1%of the national *** population aged 65 and over was about 217 million,accounting for 15.4%[1].It is estimated that by 2035,China will have an elderly population of over 400 million,accounting for more than 30%of the total population,thereby entering a stage of severe *** brings many challenges to the society,especially in terms of medical care for elderly *** continuous advancement of science and technology,especially the breakthrough in basic research as well as new technologies and interdisciplinary integration,has brought new opportunities for the development of various professional *** better address the challenges of anesthesia and perioperative medicine in the aging era and to accelerate the rehabilitation of patients while maintaining life and health services,it is crucial to promote interdisciplinary integration.

Artificial intelligence(AI)has long been an attractive topic in medicine,especially in light of the rapid developments in digital and information *** has already provided some breakthroughs in *** the assistance of AI,more precise models have been used for clinical predictions,diagnoses,and *** review defines the basic concepts of AI and machine learning(ML),and provides a simple introduction to certain frequently used algorithms in AI and *** addition,the review discusses the current common applications of AI and ML in the prediction of anesthesia conditions,including those for preoperative predictions of difficult airways,intraoperative predictions of adverse events and anesthetic effects,and postoperative predictions of vomiting and *** use of AI in anesthesiology remains in development,even without extensive promotion and clinical application;moreover,it has immense potential to maintain further development in the ***,the limitations and challenges of AI development for anesthesia are also discussed,along with considerations regarding ethics and safety.

Metabolomic Analysis in Saliva and Different Brain Regions of Older Mice with Postoperative Delirium Behaviors

Objective Postoperative delirium(POD)has become a critical challenge with severe consequences and increased incidences as the global population ***,the underlying mechanism is yet *** study aimed to explore the changes in metabolites in three specific brain regions and saliva of older mice with postoperative delirium behavior and to identify potential non-invasive *** Eighteen-month-old male C57/BL6 mice were randomly assigned to the anesthesia/surgery or control *** tests were conducted 24 h before surgery and 6,9,and 24 h after *** C3(C3)and S100 calcium-binding protein B protein(S100beta)levels were measured in the hippocampus,and a metabolomics analysis was performed on saliva,hippocampus,cortex,and amygdala *** In total,43,33,38,and 14 differential metabolites were detected in the saliva,hippocampus,cortex,and amygdala,respectively.“Pyruvate”“alpha-linolenic acid”and“2-oleoyl-1-palmitoy-snglycero-3-phosphocholine”are enriched in one common pathway and may be potential non-invasive biomarkers for *** changes were observed in the three brain regions,with the upregulation of 1-methylhistidine and downregulation of *** Dysfunctions in energy metabolism,oxidative stress,and neurotransmitter dysregulation are implicated in the development of *** identification of changes in the level of salivary metabolite biomarkers could aid in the development of noninvasive diagnostic methods for POD.

Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is an acquired injury of the brain caused by the impact of external forces on the brain(Maas et al.,2008).It is a major cause of death and disability among people of all ages(Maas et al.,2008).The primary mechanical injury to the brain initiates a cascade of secondary biochemical events that lead to acute and chronic neurodegeneration and activation of inflammatory pathways(Maas et al.,2008).Both brain-resident microglia and blood-derived myeloid cells-macrophages and monocytes that infiltrate the brain due to injury-induced blood-brain barrier damage,contribute to the inflammatory responses after TBI(Morganti et al.,2015).

Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity of Cotinus coggygria *** in vivo

Objective:To assess the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of standardized extract of Cotinus coggygria(***)in different animal ***:*** extracts(25,50,and 100 mg/kg)were administered to rats and mice(n=6)during hot plate,tail-flick,acetic acid-induced writhing,and formalin tests to determine its analgesic *** anti-inflammatory activity of *** extracts was evaluated by histamine and carrageenan-induced paw edema,cotton pellet-induced granuloma,and acetic acid-induced peritoneal capillary dye leakage ***:*** extracts(50 and 100 mg/kg)significantly alleviated thermal and chemical-induced pain in rodents(P<0.05).It also demonstrated notable anti-inflammatory properties by mitigating histamine and carrageenan-induced paw edema,granuloma deposits,and vascular permeability(P<0.05).Moreover,*** extracts remarkably reduced TNF-α,IL-1β,IL-6,COX-2,and oxidative stress in rat paws(P<0.05).Carrageenan-induced histological aberrations in hind paw tissues were effectively(P<0.05)mitigated by treatment with *** ***:*** *** show analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via inhibition of COX-2 and inflammatory and oxidative mediators.

General anesthetic agents induce neurotoxicity through astrocytes

Neuroscientists have recognized the importance of astrocytes in regulating neurological function and their influence on the release of glial transmitters. Few studies, however, have focused on the effects of general anesthetic agents on neuroglia or astrocytes. Astrocytes can also be an important target of general anesthetic agents as they exert not only sedative, analgesic, and amnesic effects but also mediate general anesthetic-induced neurotoxicity and postoperative cognitive dysfunction. Here, we analyzed recent advances in understanding the mechanism of general anesthetic agents on astrocytes, and found that exposure to general anesthetic agents will destroy the morphology and proliferation of astrocytes, in addition to acting on the receptors on their surface, which not only affect Ca2+signaling, inhibit the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and lactate from astrocytes, but are even involved in the regulation of the pro-and anti-inflammatory processes of astrocytes. These would obviously affect the communication between astrocytes as well as between astrocytes and neighboring neurons, other neuroglia, and vascular cells. In this review, we summarize how general anesthetic agents act on neurons via astrocytes, and explore potential mechanisms of action of general anesthetic agents on the nervous system. We hope that this review will provide a new direction for mitigating the neurotoxicity of general anesthetic agents.

Large isolated fibrous tumors in the upper esophagus: A case report

BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumors(SFT)are rare spindle cell tumors that are usually benign.A total of 10 cases of SFTs in the upper esophagus have ever been ***,we report the anesthetic management of a patient with a large isolated fibrous tumor of the upper esophagus compressing the tracheal *** also provide a literature review of the current *** SUMMARY We report the case of a 49 year old male with“cough aggravation and wheezing after exercise”,who underwent esophagectomy for a large isolated fibrous tumor compressing the tracheal membrane in the upper *** advise the use of a single-lumen tube with a blocker in patients with difficult airways to reduce the incidence of airway injury and fibrinoscopy at all stages of the perioperative period to guide airway *** case study is the first report of the anesthetic management of a large,isolated fibrous tumor compressing the tracheal membrane in the upper *** This rare case emphasizes the importance of perioperative management of anesthesia in patients with large isolated fibrous tumors of the upper esophagus that compress the tracheal *** use of blocker reduce the incidence of airway injury and fibrinoscopy at the perioperative period to guide airway mana-gement.
