Urban forests play an important role in the thermal comfort and overall life of local populations in large-and medium-sized *** study analyzes urban forest loss and maps land use and land cover(LULC)changes between 1991 and 2018 by evaluating the use of urban planning instruments for the mitigation of urban forest loss in Jo?o pessoa,*** this purpose,satellite-derived LULC images from 1991,2006,2010 and 2018 and data on urban forest loss areas obtained using the Google Earth Engine were *** addition,this paper also discusses the instruments used for integrated urban planning,which are(a)the legal sector,responsibility and nature;(b)the urban expansion process;and(c)the elements of urban *** results show a clear shift in land use in the study *** major changes in LULC classes occurred in urban areas and herbaceous vegetation,while the greatest loss was in arboreal/shrub ***,an increase in the pressure to occupy zones intended for environmental preservation could be *** results showed similar accuracies with other studies and more spatial *** characteristics of the patterns,traces,and hotspots of urban expansion and forest cover loss were *** highlighted the potential use of this proposed framework to be applied and validated in other parts of the world to help better understand and quantify various aspects of urban-related problems such as urban forest loss mapping using instruments for integrated urban planning and low-cost approaches.

Brazilian city beaches are public spaces favoring citizens *** studies relate built form and infrastructure with urban vitality and coastal studies underline uses as important for beach management,yet few researches relate form and infrastructure with beach *** daily life as essential for public spaces and that spatial form relates with uses,this paper assesses time-based relationships between built and natural physical attributes and social life on the beaches of João pessoa,a coastal city in North-east *** attributes are investigated at city scale-beach type,street network centrality and topography-and seafront scale-land uses,public/private interfaces,public infrastructure,beach sections and water *** social life was surveyed online,enquiring peoples’beach choice,visiting time and place,activities and *** and street network follow topography and help configure shore and promenade for different *** central beaches have diverse land uses,well-equipped promenades and lighting and were popular night and day,while less central beaches had less infrastructure and were visited only by *** highlight how physical attributes facilitate uses and,together with peoples’evaluation,can inform urban beach design and planning.

Synthetic inorganic pigments are most widely used in ceramic applications due to their excellent chemical and thermal stability and their lower toxicity to both human and environment as *** the present work,black ceramic pigment CoFe_(2)o_(4)has been synthesized by the complex polymerization method(CPM)with good chemical *** order to study the influence of variables on the process of obtaining pigment through CPM,2^((5-2))fractional factorial design with resolution III was *** variables studied in the mathematical modeling were:citric acid/metal concentration,pre-calcination time,calcination temperature,calcination time,and calcination *** pigments were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and UV-visible(UV-Vis)*** on the results,the formation of cobalt ferrite phase(CoFe_(2)o_(4))with spinel structure was *** color of pigments obtained showed dark shades,from black to *** model adjusted to the conditions proposed in this study due to the determination coefficient of 99.9%and variance(R²)showed that all factors are significant at the confidence level of 95%.

A design framework for a kinetic shading device system for building envelopes

This paper presents a design framework of a shading device applied on a building envelope,with a scheduled automatic activation logic,based on a sun path *** proposal aims to balance the direct sun indoor exposure by evaluating the envelope area exposed to direct sun rays and the hourly activation rate of shading *** procedures are over the parametric modeling and simulation platform using raytracing,structural finite element analysis,and Computer Numerical Control(CNC)*** design process of building envelopes equipped with kinetic devices can use all these design *** kinetic device’s activation logic relies on the feed-forward paradigm,scheduling the activation from the parametric modeling and the sun path diagram,using an angle threshold between the device post and the sun vector as a *** design framework showed the preliminary path to develop shading devices considering the building envelope shape with a feedforward activation logic based on local sun path characteristics.

Antifungal activity and antidiarrheal activity via antimotility mechanisms of (-)-fenchone in experimental models

BACKGRoUND(-)-Fenchone is a bicyclic monoterpene present in essential oils of plant species,such as Foeniculum vulgare and Peumus boldus,used to treatment of gastrointestinal *** studies report its anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,and antinociceptive *** To investigate antidiarrheal activity related to gastrointestinal motility,intestinal secretion and antimicrobial *** A castor oil-induced diarrhea model was used to evaluate antidiarrheal *** transit and gastric emptying protocols were used to assess a possible antimotility *** receptors,presynaptic α2-adrenergic and tissue adrenergic receptors,KATP channels,nitric oxide were investigated to uncover antimotility mechanisms of action and castor oil-induced enteropooling to elucidate antisecretory *** antimicrobial activity was evaluated in the minimum inhibitory concentration model,the fractional inhibitory concentration index using the(-)-fenchone association method with standard antifungal ***(-)-Fenchone(75,150 and 300 mg/kg)showed antidiarrheal activity,with a significant decrease in the evacuation *** activity is possibly related to a percentage of reduced intestinal transit(75,150 and 300 mg/kg).The antimotility effect of(-)-fenchone decreased in the presence of pilocarpine,yohimbine,propranolol,L-NG-nitroarginine methyl ester or *** the enteropooling model,no reduction in intestinal fluid weight was observed.(-)-Fenchone did not show antibacterial activity;on the other hand,inhibits the growth of strains of fungi with a minimum fungicide concentration of 32μg/***,when it was associated with amphotericin B,no synergism was *** The antidiarrheal effect of(-)-fenchone in this study involves antimotility effect and not involve antisecretory mechanisms.(-)-Fenchone presents antifungal activity;however,it did not show antibacterial activity.

Rhetorical Analysis of Pre-persuasions

The purpose of this paper is to explain the role of persuasion and what has been called here pre-persuasion in the perception of the world and of ourselves and in philosophical reflections in general,trying to show that,however original we have wanted to consider,throughout the centuries,the fundamental questions surrounding the ultimate meaning of things,such as“what is being?”,“what is good?”,or“what is the truth or the beauty?”,or yet,“who are we?”,there are always background persuasions that once made explicit by the rhetorical analysis method,it relativizes not only the possible answers,but the question ***,in turn,reveals the priority of persuasion on the perception and the unconfessed rhetoric of the *** contribution of the present study is to avoid the naivety of objectivism and metaphysics,the claim of the ultimaverba,or last conversation and to prevent the illusion of definitive speech,seen,by Perelman,as a pseudo lay form of *** only sacredness admitted which,therefore,pre-persuades us is,in Perelman‟s words,that of endless dialogue,in Blanchot‟s words,the infinite conversation,and,finally,in Rorty‟s words,the edifying philosophy.

Climate Changes: How the Atmosphere Really Works

Top concepts adopted by the current science on climate changes or atmospheric warming are not in agreement with the first principles of the physics. This paper presents a new understanding on the atmospheric behaviors. For example, the radiation is not the only factor that influences the air temperature, as the law of conservation of energy defines and as shown physically and mathematically in this article. The Sun is not the only heat source for the atmosphere because there is generation of heat at the Earth’s surface by human activities. It is also shown that the water vapor is not a null effect and that the water vapor cannot be removed from the atmosphere for air temperature, greenhouse effect and climate changes considerations, in contrast to the current literature beliefs. The “feedback” concept is unfounded and invalid. The literature also says that “water vapor increases as the Earth’s atmosphere warms”, but this is also incorrect. The above equivocated understanding is accompanied by another one which believes that more water evaporates if the air temperature increases, but it is not in this way. These demonstrations and other authors’ surveys showing that in the last decades the planet became wetter eliminate the literature concept that the water vapor does not have influence on the atmospheric warming/cooling. The conventional water cycle is related to the mass of water (mass of evaporation mass of precipitation) and then the physical and mathematical principles of the new hydrological cycle that includes the direct human influence are shown. The same is done for the carbon cycle. It is solved the problem on why the wind speed on Venus is very high above the cloud deck while it is stagnant below it, being this the same physical principle valid for the Earth’s cloud cover. In the atmosphere, all the corresponding principles are the same, only their amounts change. It is demonstrated that the Co2 is not decisive for building and changing the temperatures of

Case report of a criminal dismemberment in Northeast Brazil

Several decomposed body parts were received for examination by the Forensic Anthropology section of the Medico-legal Institute of João pessoa,Paraíba,*** portions of the lower and upper limbs,ribs,vertebrae,and a skull were thoroughly *** biological profile indicated a male individual with an estimated age range between 23 and 57 years and a mean age of 35.2 years(SD=9.4;phase IV,Suchey-Brooks).The skeleton showed injuries caused by sharp force and sharp-blunt force trauma that affected all body ***,the lesions are mainly in the diaphyseal segments of the long bones,sacrum,pelvis,mandible,maxilla,scapulae,sternum,vertebrae,the distal epiphysis of the left fibula,and the distal epiphysis of the left tibia displayed characteristics compatible with injuries produced *** was not possible to determine the cause of *** resulted in a positive *** of common difficulties faced in forensic practice,it is often not possible for forensic anthropologists to go to the crime scene,X-ray or body scanners are frequently unavailable,and the victim’s medical and/or dental records are sometimes *** difficulties make identification ultimately depend on genetic analysis,which is more time-consuming than other identification *** this,bone fragment examination in dismemberment cases is a complex *** Anthropology can shed light on cases involving the identification of dismembered remains,which are challenging because of the number of traumatic injuries,as well as different injury patterns,on bones.
