ong>Background:ong> Rhinopathy, a dysfunction or inflammation of the nasal mucosal lining, presents with symptoms of nasal obstruction, posterior and anterior rhinorrhea, sneezing, nasal itching, and hyposmia, with variations in symptom intensity in each subtype. Asthma originates from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. ong>objective:ong> This study aimed to treat allergic rhinitis in patients with controlled asthma and to verify the behavior of the variables. ong>Methods:ong> In this prospective study, quantitative and qualitative assessment of rhinopathy in asthma was performed. Patients with symptoms of rhinopathy and controlled asthma, who were controlled with treatment at the pulmonology outpatient clinic of the Center for Medical Specialties at [hospital], were included. Patients were treated for 2 months according to the IV Rhinopathy Consensus. They underwent a pulmonary function test and completed a questionnaire before and after treatment for rhinopathy. ong>Results:ong> In total, 47 patients aged 7 - 12 years (9.30 ± 1.70 years;median 9 years) were evaluated, including 29 (61.7%) males and 18 (38.3%) females. Patients were evaluated at two timepoints, with an interval of 12 days to 14 months (3.81 ± 3.21 months;median 3 months), and were evaluated regarding the various characteristics of their allergy. ong>Conclusion: ong>The treatment of allergic rhinitis in patients with asthma resulted in an improvement in variables related to nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, cough, dyspnea, wheezing, and dyspnea on exertion, and maintaining physical activities without dyspnea.

Case Report of Cardiac Tamponade Due to Acute Chagas Disease after Misdiagnosis of Visceral Leishmaniasis Based on Serology

Protozoan diseases such as Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) have re-emerged in Northern Brazil and cases of Chagas Disease also occur. This VL increase leads to early therapy for the public. Confirmatory parasitological diagnoses in VL are performed by bone marrow or spleen aspiration, but ELISA, IFA or immunochromatographic tests for antibody detection are easily performed and can be used in the presence of clinical signs as confirmatory for specific therapy. This approach is successful in providing therapy and prevention of death in VL, but there is a chance of confusion with the emerging disease, Chagas Disease (CD), due to cross-reacting and similar clinical pictures, as in this case. Both VL and CD presented many asymptomatic or oligosymptomatic cases, complicating the picture. our case report emphasizes these aspects. Positive serology, with an IIF titer of 1/160, and epidemiological correlation, suggests the diagnosis of VL and imposes antimony therapy. Despite the unfavorable evolution and signs of cardiac involvement, the presence of pericarditis and cardiac tamponade confirmed by the echocardiogram suggests CD. We reassessed the profiles of a suggested CD serology, the diagnosis was corrected and treatment with CD specific benznidazole. The good evolution started with benznidazole corroborates the diagnosis of CD and discards the hypothesis of double infection.

This paper results from an exploratory investigation regarding the tourist consumer behavior identifying which attractiveness factors from tourist destination define tourist consumer capacity and have importance in his choice In this investigation, a model elaborated based on a detailed situational analysis considering different aspects related with offering and demand that compose the tourist activity dimensions, such as infra structure, tourism potential, geographical factors, climate, economy, cultural and environmental resources public policies and sustainability was adopted. The competitive environment also was analyzed, once tourists have different destinations to their disposal which is attracted for destinations that offer optimum value and the greatest number of benefits. To reach the proposed objectives, an exploratory research through in depth personal interviews with 20 individuals was carried on using snow ball technique aims to identify the possible factors of attractiveness and related degree of importance of each of these possible factors in the tourist consumer behavior. After that, a confirmatory research was conducted with 150 individuals. The sampling process was done using convenience sample and data which were collected between November and December, 2009, through direct proportionally survey divided between man and woman

Green coconut fiber (Cocos nucifera L.) has been largely used in solid-phase extraction. The effect of the initial dye concentration (1.91, 3.02 and 4.02) × 10-5 mol·L-1 and solid phase contact (SPE) time were evaluated at different temperatures (283, 298 and 313) K at pH 2. Kinetic experimental data were applied to three simplified kinetic models: pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and intraparticle diffusion. The adsorption of 5.5’-DI onto the solid phase showed excellent fit to the pseudo-second order model. At 283, 298 and 313 K the maximum sorption, qmax,exp, for the lowest initial concentration (Co = 1.91 × 10-5 mol·L-1) of 5.5’-DI were (5.01, 5.24 and 6.14) × 10-4 g·g-1;for Co = 3.02 × 10-5 mol·L-1 (0.93, 1.01 and 1.03) × 10-3

SCAD （spontaneous coronary artery dissection） proves to be a pathology of several manifestations, whose clinical diagnosis is a challenge for emergency departments. Therefore, their early identification and knowledge of the various forms of presentation are mandatory for optimal medical therapy. We present a case report of a 45-year-old patient who was admitted to the coronary unit showing symptoms and laboratory tests compatible with myocardial infarction. Complete diagnosis was obtained only with more specific exams. The manifestations of the disease in the case described and the main features of the disease are discussed.

Proposal of a Learning Management System for Physics Education with the Inclusion of WebLab and Assessment of its Application

The objective of authors＇ study was to assess the effect of using the remote Tangent Galvanometer experiment on teaching and leaming physics in high-school classes. The idea was to understand how the remote experiment can contribute to understanding scientific concepts of high school students, specifically in physics. Five public high-schools located in the urban area of Guaratingueta were selected for our pilot test. only one of the schools has a science laboratory, which is often not used due to the shortage of appropriate material for experiments. However, all five schools have computer labs with internet access. Authors worked with a total of 335 students from five schools. Authors＇ pilot test began with theoretical classes, related to the experiment, given by the teachers of each school： Concept of Magnetic Induction Field and the Biot-Savart Law. The classes were followed by a pre-test. After applying the pre-test, the students accessed the experimental activity via Interact remote access in the computer lab. At the end of the experimental activity, the students completed the multiple choice post-tests. All students completed the post-tests. The pre-test and post-test analysis has been used as an assessment method in education and social sciences.

Turbulent Flowfield Analysis in a Bluff-Body Burner Using PIV

The structure of inert turbulent flows, stabilized in a Bluff-Body burner, is studied considering different volumetric flows for Nitrogen jet and annular air in coflow configuration. Flowfield analysis on Bluff-Body burner is essential to improve the knowledge about this burner, which plays an important role in industrial applications. Thus, vector velocity field is performed, employing Particle Image Velocimetry technique. Also, an uncertainty analysis is performed considering parameters involved in this technique yielding 6% to velocity measurements. The acquired information produces the results based in flowfield structure, which are presented in terms of statistical momentum and Reynolds stress, in which Boussinesq Hypothesis is considered to incompressible flows. However, this hypothesis fails in certain conditions. In this way, is possible to comprehend and provide experimental data from the turbulent effects on the flowfield and also contribute to predict the combustion flows, in order to enable the validation and develop numerical models.

Experimental Study of Soot Volume Fraction Applied in Laminar Diffusion Flames

The soot emission has been the focus of many studies due to applications in industry and the prejudicial effects caused to the environment. The presence of soot is important to the heat transfer in boilers and combustion chambers, contributing significantly to efficiency increases. In controversy, the inhaled soot may cause respiratory system damage and even cancer. Another important point is the contribution to the greenhouse effect. Therefore, the aim of this work is to analyse the soot emission in laminar diffusion flames produced from commercial fuels stabilized on a burner representative of industrial applications. Methane, vehicular natural gas and liquid petroleum gas are considered as fuels. An experimental setup was constructed to implement the technique of laser light extinction and laser-induced incandescence. These non-intrusive techniques provide instant information, in real time, about soot volume fraction. The measurements were calibrated and validated using methods and results of studies available in the literature, and also the uncertainty is analysed and suitably minimized. The results will contribute to the database for projects of combustion systems optimization, aiming to increase the efficiency and soot emissions control.

Whey Protein-Carboxymethylcellulose obtained by Complex Coacervation as an Ingredient in Probiotic Fermented Milk

Discharge of whey proteins is still a current practice by small cheese producers. The development of low-cost alternatives for recovery of these proteins is fundamental for small producers who cannot apply expensive techniques. The present study investigated the complex coacervation technique as a cheap technology to recover proteins from sweet whey using carboxymethylcellulose, and the coacervate used as an ingredient in the formulation of probiotic fermented milk. The nutritional properties of whey-carboxymethylcellulose coacervates (WP-CMC) were evaluated in trials with animals (rats) using casein as a reference. All these parameters—the coefficient of feed efficiency (CEA), protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS), and net protein ratio (NPR), as well as weight gain—were determined to evaluate protein quality. A sensory acceptance test was applied to evaluate the sensory characteristics of the product. The complex coacervation technique recovered 86% of the protein from sweet whey. No significant (p > 0.05) differences were observed in the biological tests for both groups (WP-CMC and Casein groups) when NPR (4.98 to 5.04), digestibility (92.35 to 90.64), and CEA (0.40 to 0.42) were evaluated. Probiotic fermented milk beverage containing WP-CMC (0.78%) and guar gum (0.68%) presented good acceptability as determined by sensory evaluation. WP-CMC can be considered an ingredient with high nutritional and biological value that could be applied in probiotic fermented milk as an alternative to small producers to allocate the residual whey from cheese manufacture.
