An innovative trigeneration system using biogas as renewable energy

One of the ways to decrease the global primary energy consumption and the corresponding greenhouse gas emissions is the application of the combined cooling, heating and power generation technologies, known as trigeneration system. In this research an innovative trigeneration system, composed by an absorption heat pump, a mechanical compression heat pump, a steam plant, and a heat recovery plant is developed. The low tem- perature heat produced by absorption chiller is sent to a mechanical compression heat pump, that receives pro- cess water at low temperature from the heat recovery plant and bring it to higher temperatures. The trigeneration system is fed by biogas, a renewable energy. A design and a simulation of the system are developed by ChemCad 6.3 software. The plant produces 925 kW of electrical energy, 2523 kW of thermal energy and 473 kW of cooling energy, by the combustion of 3280 kW of biogas. Primary energy rate （P.E.R.） is equal 1.04 and a sensitivity analysis is carried out to evaluate the effect of cooling capacity, produced electrical energy and process water temperature. The first has a negative effect, while other parameters have a positive effect on P.E.R. Compared to a cogeneration system, the tdgeneration plant produces the 28% higher of power and the 40% lower of carbon dioxide emissions. An economic analysis shows that the plant is economically feasible only consid- ering economic incentives obtained by the use of heat pumps and steam plant at high efficiency. Saving 6431 t.a-1 corresponding to 658000 EUR.a-1 of incentives, the plant has a net present value （N.P.V.） and a pay back period （P.B.P.） respectively equal to 371000 EUR and 4 year. Future works should optimize the process considering cost and energetic efficiency as the two objective functions.

Small cell carcinoma of the esophagus (SCCE) is a rare and aggressive malignant tumor with a poor prognosis. The optimal disease staging system and treatment approaches have not yet been defined. This study aimed to evaluate the prediction of different staging systems for prognosis and treatment options of SCCE. We retrospectively accessed the clinicopathologic characteristics, treatment strategy, and prognosis of 76 patients diagnosed with primary SCCE between 2001 and 2011. The 1-, 2-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival rates were 58%, 31%, 19%, and 13%, respectively. Univariate analysis showed that the 2002 American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) classification (P=0.002), Veterans Administration Lung Study Group (VALSG) stage (P=0.001), predisposing factors (Phe 2002 AJCC TNM stage (Phe only independent prognostic factor for survival. The value of the area under the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) of the 2002 AJCC TNM staging system was larger than that of VALSG staging system with regard to predicting overall survival (0.774 vs. 0.620). None of the single treatment regimens showed any benefit for survival by Cox regression analysis. Thus, the 2002 AJCC TMN staging system improved the prediction of SCCE prognosis; however, the optimal treatment regimen for SCCE remains unclear.

The covariate-specific receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve is an important tool for evaluating the classification accuracy of a diagnostic test when it is associated with certain covariates. In this paper,a weighted Wilcoxon estimator is constructed for estimating this curve under the framework of location-scale model for the test result. The asymptotic normality is established, both for the regression parameter estimator and the estimator for the covariate-specific ROC curve at a fixed false positive point. Simulation results show that the Wilcoxon estimator compares favorably to its main competitors in terms of the standard error, especially when outliers exist in the covariates. As an illustration, the new procedure is applied to the dementia data from the national Alzheimer's coordinating center.

In this letter, the homotopy analysis method is successfully applied to solve the Relativistic Toda lattice system. Comparisons are made between the results of the proposed method and exact solutions. Analysis results show that homotopy analysis method is a powerful and easy-to-use analytic tool to solve systems of differential-difference equations.

The second-order quasilinear boundary value problems are considered when the nonlinear term is singular and the limit growth function at the infinite exists. With the introduction of the height function of the nonlinear term on a bounded set and the consideration of the integration of the height function, the existence of the solution is proven. The existence theorem shows that the problem has a solution if the integration of the limit growth function has an appropriate value.
