The effect of ethanol fuel dilution on oil performance and MoDTC tribofilms formation and composition

Ethanol has emerged as a promising alternative to fossil fuels,but its use can lead to significant dilution in lubricants,particularly during cold start or heavy *** dilution can affect the performance of additives,including friction modifiers like molybdenum dithiocarbamate(MoDTC),which are designed to reduce friction under extreme contact *** research suggests that ethanol may impact the performance of MoDTC,prompting this study’s goal to investigate the effects of ethanol on MoDTC tribofilms and their friction response under boundary lubrication ***,reciprocating tribological tests were performed with fully formulated lubricants containing MoDTC with varying ethanol *** results indicate that a critical ethanol dilution level inhibits friction reduction by MoDTC activation,resulting in friction coefficients(COFs)similar to the base *** tested with simple mixtures of polyalphaolefin(PAO)+MoDTC showed increased COFs with added *** of tested surfaces using Raman spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and X-ray absorption spectroscopy near the edge structure(XANES)revealed the presence of sulfates,MoO_(3),MoS_(2),and MoS_(x)O_(y)compounds in the tribofilms formed on the surfaces,with and without ethanol diluted in the ***,the addition of ethanol increased the sulfates and MoO_(3)content of the tribofilms at the expense of friction-reducing compounds such as MoS_(2)and MoS_(x)O_(y).These findings suggest that ethanol dilution in lubricants containing MoDTC creates an oxygen-rich interfacial medium that favors the formation of compounds with insufficient friction-reducing capabilities.

Toward improving reforestation of Brazilian pine(Araucaria angustifolia),two contrasting sapling sizes in either full sun or in the shade of a mixed plantation and the effect of opening the canopy were evaluated for survival,growth,gas exchange,photosynthetic pigments,and leaf anatomy 18 months after being *** 23 months after planting,a partial opening was made in the canopy in the mixed plantation,then the saplings were evaluated again after 2 months for the same morphophysiological *** 18 months,saplings planted in the full sun had higher survival,growth,pigments,and photosynthesis compared to the shaded *** saplings had higher survival and growth compared to the small *** leaves were thinner and little differentiation of palisade parenchyma and *** opening of the canopy,photo synthetically active radiation was 10 times higher,and the saplings quickly grew in height due to increased ***,although the species can tolerate shade,growth in the shade is *** recommend that for reforestation purposes of Brazilian pine,large saplings should be selected and planted in the open for better development.

Characterization of Mould in Masonry in Hospital Environment—Case Study

The objective of this study is the characterization of mould inside and in the surface wall of a hospital. The present research was made on the wall of the Clinical Hospital of the federal University of paraná, Brazil. For the methodology the samples were extracted from the surface, mortar and brick. The samples were spread on Petri plates containing Sabouraud dextrose agar and incubated at 25℃ for seven days. The results of the 90 samples collected showed growth of 39% of colonies with the following distribution of microorganisms: Aspergillus (present in 27% of samples), Cladosporium, Absidia, Rhizopus, Rhodotorula, Fusarium, Penicillium and Aspergillus flavus. Within the investigated substrate, three species of different fungi were identified: Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus niger.

A stability-indicating high performance liquid chromatography method to determine apocynin in nanoparticles

In this study, we developed and validated a fast, specific, sensitive, precise and stability-indicating high performance liquid chromatography（HPLC） method to determine the drug apocynin in bovine serum albumin（BSA） nanoparticles. Chromatographic analyses were performed on an RP C18 column and using a photodiode array detector at a wavelength of 276 nm. Mobile phase consisted of a mixture of acetonitrile and 1% acetic acid（60：40, v/v）, and it was eluted isocratically at a flow rate of 0.8 mL/min. The retention time of apocynin chromatographic peak was 1.65 min. The method was linear, precise, accurate and specific in the range of 5–100 μg/mL. The intra-and inter-day precisions presented relative standard deviation（RSD） values lower than 2%. The method was robust regarding changes in mobile phase proportion, but not for flow rate. Limits of detection and quantitation were 78 ng/mL and 238 ng/mL, respectively. Apocynin was exposed to acid and alkali hydrolysis, oxidation and visible light. The drug suffered mild degradation under acid and oxidation conditions and great degradation under alkali conditions. Light exposure did not degrade the drug. The method was successfully applied to determine the encapsulation efficiency of apocynin in BSA nanoparticles.

Effects of Tecartherapy on Body Tissue: A Systematic Review

Electrophysical devices based on diathermy are one of the modalities used by many professionals to treat pain. The objective of this study was to identify the effects of Tecartherapy on healthy and unhealthy tissues. A systematic review of Tecartherapy technology was carried out. Articles published up to the year 2023 were investigated. The search argument used was “Capacitive-resistive electrical transfer” OR “Tecar” OR “Therapy Tecar” OR “CRET” in the BVS, Cochrane, PEDro, PubMed, IEEE Explore databases, Scielo and Web of Science. As for the main results of using Tecartherapy, there is an increase in temperature. In healthy tissues there is an increase in local blood flow, a decrease in muscle fatigue and an increase in muscle flexibility. In addition to the effects observed on healthy tissues, pain reduction and improved joint function were also observed. It was concluded that this technology has similar effects to other diathermy, but Tecartherapy proved to be safer and more comfortable. .

Antimicrobial potential of aqueous coffee extracts against pathogens and Lactobacillus species:A food matrix application

Coffee is recognized by its bioactive potential,mainly antioxidant and antimicrobial *** aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobioal potential of aqueous extracts of Coffea arabica(AR)(roasted)and Coffea canephora[roasted(CR)and green(CG)]against patogens Salmonella Typhimurium and Escherichia coli,and probiotics Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus ***,the strain's sensitivity were tested by disk diffusion method,followed by the evaluation of growth kinetics(lag phase duration,maximum specific growth rate and logarithmic increase in the population)in culture media and in a food matrix(milk)by the adjustment of Gompertz predictive *** the step of strain sensivity tests,*** and *** were sensitive against all coffee extracts from 0.5%to 5.0%,while the Lactobacilli growth were not *** the growth kinetic tests in culture media,roasted coffees extracts reduced logarithmic increase in the population and maximum specific growth rate and improved lag phase for ***;for *** the growth was completely inhibited with 2.5%CR and 5.0%*** correlations between growth parameters with coffee bioactive contents suggested that melanoidins had the main antimicrobial *** the step of food matrix application(growth kinetics in milk),the addition of 5.0%CR reduced *** and *** multiplication,while the probiotics *** and *** where not inhibetd,suggesting a selective effect of coffee extracts as an antimicrobial agent,which may be of great interest for the food industry,especially for probiotic foods application.

Use of Caffeine for the Evaluation of the Anthropic Influence over the Upper and Middle Iguaçu River Basins

Many parameters are usually used as gauges to describe water quality worldwide, such as the concentrations of phosphorus, forms of nitrogen, dissolved oxygen (do), among others. Though legislative limits for the concentrations of these substances are in place, such is not the case for caffeine. Caffeine is a pharmacologically active alkaloid, from the xanthine group, which can be used as a chemical tracer for anthropic influence over water resources. The objective of this study was to analyze the pollution indicators over the Igua?u River, one of the main rivers in Southern Brazil, through the examination of nutrients, do and their correlations to caffeine. The water samples were collected from 10 sampling sites along the river course, unevenly spaced to better represent the different environmental scenarios present in its basin, extracted from 2014 to 2017. Caffeine was detected and quantified through high-efficiency liquid state chromatography. Results show that both nutrient and caffeine concentrations increased in intensely urbanized areas, specially from IG2 to IG5 sampling sites. downstream from IG6 the contaminant concentrations decreased mainly due to higher river flows and lower population density. Caffeine was detected in 82% of the samples, indicating that most of the sampling sites were under anthropic influence.
