A Comparative Analysis of Contemporary Methods of Final Disposition

This article illustrates the procedural specificities of the following eight contemporary methods of final disposition: (1) Natural Organic Reduction, (2) Alkaline Hydrolysis, (3) Plastination, (4) Body Farm, (5) Cryonics, (6) Memorial Reefs, (7) Organic Burial Pods, and (8) Space Funeral. After comparing the differences in the duration of body-processing time of all eight methods, Alkaline Hydrolysis was determined to take the shortest length of time to complete (6 - 8 hours), while Plastination was deemed to take the longest length of time to complete (1 year). Additionally, with regard to comparing the differences in cost to the consumer, Plastination and Body Farm were both deemed to be of the lowest cost ($0/body donation only), while Cryonics was deemed to be the most expensive ($200,000+ due to ongoing subfreezing storage and maintenance fees). Finally, after comparing the differences in each state’s set of sanctioned methods of final disposition, it was established that the seventeen states that restrict their residents’ options the most, permitting only two out of the eight contemporary options, include Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, new Hampshire, new Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, and that the two states that restrict their residents the least, permitting six out of the eight contemporary options include California and Florida.

Objectives:Persistent olfactory dysfunction(OD)following loss of smell associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection is a major feature of long *** on the prevalence of persistent OD predominantly rely on self-reported olfactory *** studies have tracked longitudinal rates of recovery using psychophysical assessment among patients presenting for evaluation of persistent OD beyond a window of acute *** anchored in standardized testing methods are needed to counsel patients who fail to acutely regain their sense of *** study aims to quantify the degree of persistent OD in post-COVID-19 patients who experience subjective and psychophysical ***:We grouped participants presenting for OD evaluation into cohorts based on both subjective and psychophysical olfactory status at a baseline assessment and assessed their olfactory abilities with a visual analogue scale and the Sniffin'Sticks extended test at baseline and 1-year time *** had confirmed a history of COVID-19 by lab evaluation or clinical diagnosis if lab evaluation was not ***:Baseline olfactory evaluation was completed by 122 participants,53 of whom completed the 1-year follow-up *** participants presenting with perceived OD,74.5%had confirmed psychophysical OD at baseline,with 55.1%at 1-year *** had reliable trends in self-rated versus psychophysically tested olfactory function at both time *** total threshold,discrimination,and identification(TDI)score improved by+3.25 points in the cohort with psychophysical OD(p=0.0005),with this improvement largely attributable to an increase in median threshold scores(+2.75 points;p=0.0004).Conclusions:OD persists in a significant number of patients who fail to acutely recovery their sense of smell after COVID-19,with many demonstrating lingering deficits at *** in threshold,but not discrimination or identification,most significantly mediate improvement

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the internal consistency and construct validity of a self-report checklist measuring clinical mental health recovery across six key domains:family and relationships,occupation and school,physical health,mental health,spirituality,and social support *** Mental Health Recovery Checklist(MHRC)was developed at The Dorm,an intensive outpatient mental health treatment program for young adults in new york,NY,and Washington DC that services individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years *** present study is cross-sectional,as data were pulled from clients’records who were discharged between January 2018 and May *** Correlations and Cronbach’s alpha were used to determine scale *** establish validity,an Exploratory Factor Analysis(EFA)was conducted to assess a single-factor model using Principal Axis ***’s alpha was high(α=0.88),indicating good *** the EFA,all items loaded strongly on a single *** unidimensional structure revealed in the EFA highlights the interconnected nature of various life domains as they pertain to mental health recovery in young *** research is warranted to explore whether there are additional dimensions of mental health recovery that have not been assessed in the present scale.

A Case Report: Emergency Management of a Pregnant Trauma Patient—An Anesthesiologist’s Perspective and Role

Trauma is the leading cause of death for all women of childbearing age. Motor vehicle accidents account for almost two-thirds of all maternal non-obstetric, trauma-related deaths, while falls and domestic violence comprise a large percentage of the rest. The leading causes of obstetric trauma are motor vehicle accidents, falls, assaults, and gunshots, and ensuing injuries are classified as blunt abdominal trauma, pelvic fractures, or penetrating trauma . The causes are different with different life styles and different socio-economic and cultural background. Pregnant trauma victims tend to be younger, less severely injured, and more likely African American or of Hispanic descent compared with nonpregnant victims of trauma. Drugs and alcohol are a factor in about 20 percent of maternal trauma. With pregnancy comes the challenge and responsibility of caring for two patients at once, the mother and the fetus. In general, providing optimal maternal care is the best strategy to optimize fetal survival. Decision-making including the condition of the mother, gestational age, status of the fetus, and interventions are based on these key factors. Many providers are involved in the care of the pregnant patient: at the trauma scene, in the emergency department, and in the operating room. The anesthesiologist plays a key role in the care and management of the pregnant trauma patient. All anesthesiologists have ample training in obstetric anesthesia during their residency and frequently cover obstetric units in hospitals where pregnant patients are cared for. On the other hand, most nonobstetric physicians have little obstetric exposure and may be uncomfortable caring for the pregnant patient because of unfamiliarity with the physiologic changes of pregnancy or the evaluation of fetal well-being. Analyzing Cross-domain Transportation Big Data of new york City with Semi-supervised and Active Learning

The majority of big data analytics applied to transportation datasets suffer from being too domain-specific,that is,they draw conclusions for a dataset based on analytics on the same *** makes models trained from one domain(*** data)applies badly to a different domain(*** data).To achieve accurate analyses on a new domain,substantial amounts of data must be available,which limits practical *** remedy this,we propose to use semi-supervised and active learning of big data to accomplish the domain adaptation task:Selectively choosing a small amount of datapoints from a new domain while achieving comparable performances to using all the *** choose the new york City(NYC)transportation data of taxi and Uber as our dataset,simulating different domains with 90%as the source data domain for training and the remaining 10%as the target data domain for *** propose semi-supervised and active learning strategies and apply it to the source domain for selecting *** results show that our adaptation achieves a comparable performance of using all datapoints while using only a fraction of them,substantially reducing the amount of data *** approach has two major advantages:It can make accurate analytics and predictions when big datasets are not available,and even if big datasets are available,our approach chooses the most informative datapoints out of the dataset,making the process much more efficient without having to process huge amounts of data.

The transition metal chalcogenides represented by MoS_(2)are the ideal choice for non-precious metal-based hydrogen evolution ***,whether in acidic or alkaline environments,the catalytic activity of pure MoS_(2)is still difficult to compete with *** studies have shown that the electronic structure of materials can be adjusted by constructing lattice-matched heterojunctions,thus optimizing the adsorption free energy of intermediates in the catalytic hydrogen production process of materials,so as to effectively improve the electrocatalytic hydrogen production activity of ***,it is still a great challenge to prepare heterojunctions with lattice-matched structures as efficient electrocatalytic hydrogen production ***,we developed a one-step hydrothermal method to construct Ni-MoS_(2)@NiS_(2)@Ni_(3)S_(2)(Ni-MoS_(2)on behalf of Ni doping MoS_(2))electrocatalyst with multiple heterogeneous interfaces which possesses rich catalytic reaction *** Ni-MoS_(2)@NiS_(2)@Ni_(3)S_(2)electrocatalyst produced an extremely low overpotential of 69.4 mV with 10 mA·cm^(−2)current density for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in 1.0 M *** work provides valuable enlightenment for exploring the mechanism of HER enhancement to optimize the surface electronic structure of MoS_(2),and provides an effective idea for constructing rare metal catalysts in HER and other fields.
