Changes in blood lipid in elderly pop ulation following morning exercise

Objective To investigate mechanisms involvin g the effect of exercise on blood lipid in healthy elders.Method Healthy elders aged >60years were included in study group,In control group,age,sex and body mathched persons were included.Blood lipid was evaluated for study group before and 3months after morning exercise.Morning exercise consisted of walking with constant v elocity(60～80m /min)for 40～50minutes,five times a week.Level o f blood lipid in study group was compa red with that of control group.Result TC,TG were significantly reduced and HE increased as compared with control group 3months after exercise(P <0.05).No changes occurred immediately an d 20hours after first exercise(P <0.05).Conclusion Exercise can decrease TC,TG and rais e HDL-C,which is beneficial to preve ntion of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases in heal thy elders.

A ns Nd:YAG pulsed laser has been employed to produce plasma from the interaction with a dense target,generating continuum and UV and soft x-ray emission depending on the laser parameters and target properties.The laser hits solid and gaseous targets producing plasma in high vacuum,which was investigated by employing a silicon carbide detector.The two different interaction mechanisms were studied,as well as their dependence on the atomic number.The photon emission from laser-generated plasma produced by solid targets,such as boron nitride(BN)and other elements(Al,Cu,Sn and Ta)and compounds such as polyethylene,has been compared with that coming from plasma produced by irradiating different gas-puff targets based on N_(2)and other gases(Ar,Xe,Kr,SF_(6)).The experimental results demonstrated that the yields are comparable and,in both cases,increase proportionally to the target atomic number.The obtained results,focusing the attention on the advantages and drawbacks of the employed targets,are presented and discussed.

We present an entropy production formulationn for a gas-solid moving bed reactor,which we have not seen in any published reference. Apart from the traditional “flows” and “forces”,e. g., those for heat conduction and mass diffusions in each phase , we introduced the heterogeneouseffects: gas-solid heat and mass transfer, which lead to some new flows and forces in the entropyproduction formulation.

Because of shoaling, refraction, friction, and other effects, a surface-wave propagating on a gently sloping bottom of slope will eventually break. In this paper, by nonlinearizing the problem and using a perturbation method, an analytical solution for the velocity potential is derived to the second order for the bottom slope a and the wave steepness e in a Eulerian system. Then, the wave profile and the breaking wave characteristics are found by transforming the flow field into a Lagrangian system. By use of the kinematic stability parameter （K. S. P. ）, new theoretical breaker characteristics are derived. Thus, the linear theories of other scholars are extended to breaking waves. A Comparison of the present analytical solution with experimental studies of other scholars shows reasonable agreement except that the breaking depth is underestimated.

by reference and simplifying the volume expressions of Barrel Theory, this paper puts forward the Double Bottleneck Concept, the Weights of plate as well as the K-value concept on the flex coefficient of the items reflecting the comparative needing of the factors. It also advances the automatic arrangement on the position of each item and the Max Area Pattern representing the athletic diathesis and ability. It also analysis training pattern in different time-limitation by the Max Area Pattern based on the concept of Balanced-Development.

Accretion flow properties of XTE J1118+480 during its 2005 outburst

We study spectral and temporal properties of Galactic short orbital period transient black hole XTE J1118+480 during its 2005 outburst using archival data of RXTE PCA and HEXTE instruments in the combined energy range of 3−100 keV.Spectral analysis with the physical two component advective flow(TCAF)model allows us to understand the accretion flow properties of the source.We found that this outburst of XTE J1118+480 is an unconventional outburst as the source was only in the hard state(HS).Our spectral analysis suggests that during the entire outburst,the source was highly dominated by the low angular momentum sub-Keplerian halo rate.Since the source was active in radio throughout the outburst,we make an effort to estimate X-ray contribution of jets to total observed X-ray emissions from the spectral analysis with the TCAF model.The total X-ray intensity shows a similar nature of evolution as that of radio and jet X-ray fluxes.This allowed us to define this‘outburst’also as a jet dominated‘outburst’.Total X-ray flux is also found to subside when jet activity disappears.Our detailed spectral analysis also indicated that although the source was only in the HS during the outburst,in the late declining phase the spectrum became slightly softer due to the slow rise in the Keplerian disk rate.

Diclofenac sodium(DS) is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug(NSAIDs).NSAIDs are poorly removed during standard wastewater treatment.The consequences of the presence of NSAIDs in rivers and lakes at 10-11–10-8 mol/L are not yet established;therefore, ecotoxicologists have focused their efforts on studying the effect of lowconcentration NSAIDs on fish and hydrobionts, and also on predicting the potential risks to humans.Literature provides some information about the bioeffects of some NSAID solutions in low concentrations but there is no physicochemical explanation for these phenomena.Studying the physicochemical patterns of DS solutions in the low range of concentrations and establishing an interconnection between the solutions’ physicochemical properties and bioeffects can provide a conceptually new and important source of information regarding the unknown effects of DS.The physicochemical properties and action of DS solutions on Ceriodaphnia affinis cladocerans,Paramecium caudatum infusoria, Chlorella vulgaris unicellular green algae, as well as on the growth of the roots of Triticum vulgare wheat seeds, were studied in the calculated concentration range of 1 × 10-3–1 × 10-18 mol/L.The relationship between these phenomena was established using the certified procedures for monitoring the toxicity of natural water and wastewater.It was shown for the first time that water solutions of DS are dispersed systems in which the dispersed phase undergoes a rearrangement with dilution, accompanied by changes in its size and properties, which affects the nonmonotonic dependences of the system’s physicochemical properties and could cause nonmonotonic changes in action on hydrobionts in the low concentration range.

The competing reactions between existing Ni silicides surrounded by Si and Ni were investigated by thermal annealing and MeV Si ion beam mixing. With high energy irradiation, the energy deposition at both interfaces, Ni/Ni silicide and Ni silicide/Si, is equal. Two MeV He^- RBS and TEM were used to obtain the reacted layer composition and epitaxial orientation, respectively. Also glancing angle Co K_a. X-ray diffraction was utilized to identify phase formation. The main results indicate that the existing silicides preferentially react with Ni layer, and that there are pronounced differences of Ni silicide phase transition between thermal annealing and MeV Si ion beam mixing, even though the mixing was performed in radiation enhanced diffusion regime. The results can be explained in term of the heat of silicide formation and surface energy change.

ESTIMATION OF SOIL EROSION IN A RESERVOIR WATERSHED USING 137CS FALLOUT RADIONUCLIDE

Sedimentation from soil erosion is a critical reservoir watershed management issue. Due to the difficulty of field investigations, empirical formulas are commonly used to estimate the soil erosion rate. However, these estimations are often far from accurate. An effective alternative to estimating soil erosion is to analyze the spatial variation of 137Cs inventory in the soil. 137Cs can be adsorbed by the soil and is widely assumed to change its distribution only when disturbed by rainfall and human activities. Thus, 137Cs distributed in soils can be a useful environmental tracer to estimate soil erosion. In this study, the net soil loss estimate is 108,346 t/yr and the gross erosion and net erosion rates are 10.1 and 9 t/ha yr respectively. The sediment delivery ratio is therefore estimated to be 0.9 based on the two erosion rates. Because of the steep hillsides in the watershed, only 10% of the sediment yield stayed in the deposition sites and 90% was transported to the river as the sediment output. Soil erosion estimates from spatial variations of the 137Cs activity in the Baishi river watershed showed satisfactory accuracy when compared to sediment yield data. Using soil 137Cs concentrations is therefore a feasible method for estimating soil loss or deposition in Taiwan. Data sampling, analysis and result of this approach are given in this paper.
