Purpose： The main goal of this study is to discover the scientific evolution of Cancer-Related Symptoms in Complementary and Alternative Medicine research area, analyzing the articles indexed in the Web of Science database from 1980 to 2013.Design/Methodology/Approach： A co-word science mapping analysis is performed under a longitudinal framework（1980 to 2013）. The documental corpus is divided into two subperiods,1980–2008 and 2009–2013. Thus, the performance and impact rates, and conceptual evolution of the research field are shown.Findings： According to the results, the co-word analysis allows us to identify 12 main thematic areas in this emerging research field： anxiety, survivors and palliative care,meditation, treatment, symptoms and cancer types, postmenopause, cancer pain, low back pain, herbal medicine, children, depression and insomnia, inflammation mediators, and lymphedema. The different research lines are identified according to the main thematic areas,centered fundamentally on anxiety and suffering prevention. The scientific community can use this information to identify where the interest is focused and make decisions in different ways.Research limitation： Several limitations can be addressed： 1） some of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine therapies may not have been included; 2） only the documents indexed in Web of Science are analyzed; and 3） the thematic areas detected could change if another dataset was considered.Practical implications： The results obtained in the present study could be considered as an evidence-based framework in which future studies could be built.Originality/value： Currently, there are no studies that show the thematic evolution of this research area.

Noise reduction methods in the analysis of near infrared lunar occultation light curves for high angular resolution measurements

A lunar occultation （LO） technique in the near-infrared （NIR） provides angular resolution down to milliarcseconds for an occulted source, even with ground- based 1 m class telescopes. LO observations are limited to brighter objects because they require a high signal-to-noise ratio （S/N ~40） for proper extraction of angular diameter values. Hence, methods to improve the S/N ratio by reducing noise using Fourier and wavelet transforms have been explored in this study. A sample of 54 NIR LO light curves observed with the IR camera at Mt Abu Observatory has been used. It is seen that both Fourier and wavelet methods have shown an improvement in S/N compared to the original data. However, the application of wavelet transforms causes a slight smoothing of the fringes and results in a higher value for angular diameter. Fourier transforms which reduce discrete noise frequencies do not distort the fringe. The Fourier transform method seems to be effective in improving the S/N, as well as improving the model fit, particularly in the fainter regime of our sample. These methods also provide a better model fit for brighter sources in some cases, though there may not be a significant imorovement in S/N.

The energetic relationship among geoeffective solar flares, associated CMEs and SEPs

Major solar eruptions （flares, coronal mass ejections （CMEs） and solar energetic particles （SEPs）） strongly influence geospace and space weather. Currently, the mechanism of their influence on space weather is not well understood and requires a detailed study of the energetic relationship among these eruptive phenomena. From this perspective, we investigate 30 flares （observed by RHESSI）, followed by weak to strong geomagnetic storms. Spectral analysis of these flares suggests a new power-law relationship （r - 0.79） between the hard X-ray （HXR） spectral index （before flarepeak） and linear speed of the associated CME observed by LASCO/SOHO. For 12 flares which were followed by SEP enhancement near Earth, HXR and SEP spectral analysis reveals a new scaling law （r - 0.9） between the hardest X-ray flare spectrum and the hardest SEP spectrum. Furthermore, a strong correlation is obtained between the linear speed of the CME and the hardest spectrum of the corresponding SEP event （r - 0.96）. We propose that the potentially geoeffective flare and associated CME and SEP are well-connected through a possible feedback mechanism, and should be regarded within the framework of a solar eruption. Owing to their space weather effects, these new results will help improve our current understanding of the Sun-Earth relationship, which is a major goal of research programs in heliophysics.

Preparation and Properties of Some Chemical and Electrochemical γ-MnO_2

Chemically prepared electrolytic 2-Mn02 and an electrodeposited MnO2 doped with Ce(Ⅲ) were subjected to physicochemical studies. X-ray diffractometry, density measurements, chem-ical analysis and thermal analysis were used to determine the structure and chemical disorder present. The samples prepared chemically (CMD) or electrochemically (EMD) showed a variable amount of de Wolff disorder (Pr) and microtwinning (Tw). Manganese dioxide prepared in the presence of Ce(Ⅲ) showed appreciable decrease in de Wolff defect and a large amount of microtwinning. Thermal analysis showed a loss of weight due to the physically adsorbed and the structural (OH) water, from which the activation energy was calculated. Chemical composition and formulae calculated on the bases of cation vacancy model, cleared that Ce(lIl)-doped sample has a remarkable increase in the vacancies population associated with higher structural water content. This leads to lower activation energy of water release, and consequently it is supposed to acquire higher electrochemical activity.

Studying Cu Alloy Corrosion Products in Cooling Liquid

The effect of cooling liquid used for heat exchangers on the Cu alloy corrosion products has been examined using potential-time measurements under applied current condition (anodizing), potentiodynamic polarization, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR) The corrosion products formed on the Cu alloy surface during anodizing, are Cu2O, Cu2(OH)3Cl, and Cu2S. NaCl is detected in the corrosion products. The film formation depends on the applied current and the shift of potential to nobler direction indicates its formation progress.

Corrosion Penetration and Crystal Structure of AA5022 in HCl Solution and Rare Earth Elements

Al-alloy (AA5022) corrosion penetration (CP) and crystal structure were investigated after running static immersion corrosion tests in 1 mol/L HCl solution and different concentrations of rare earth elements (La3+), (Ce3+) and their combination, at different temperatures. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to examine the surface structure before and after immersion, and secondary electron detector (SED) was operated to study surface morphology. In 1 mol/L HCI solution the corrosion penetration increased with increasing temperature and immersion time. The increase of La3+ concentrations up to 1000×10-6 g/L led to the decrease in the corrosion penetration, and the decrease in Ce3+ concentrations up to 50×10-6 g/L decreases the corrosion penetration of the alloy. Mix3 (combination of La3+ and Ce3+) dramatically reduced the corrosion penetration. This suggests that a synergistic effect exists between La3+ and Ce3+. The reaction kinetics both in absence and presence of La3+ and Ce3+ and their combination would follow a parabolic rate law. The XRD patterns revealed that the intensities of certain hkl phases are affected. The crystalline structure has not been deformed either before or after testing and there are no additional peaks except that of the as-received alloy. In the case of accelerating CP, the surface morphology shows that the roughness and voids of surface are increased.

Exhuming the Meso-Cenozoic Kyrgyz Tianshan and Siberian Altai-Sayan:A review based on low-temperature thermochronology

Thermochronological datasets for the Kyrgyz Tianshan and Siberian Altai-Sayan within Central Asia reveal a punctuated exhumation history during the Meso-Cenozoic. In this paper, the datasets for both regions are collectively reviewed in order to speculate on the links between the Meso-Cenozoic exhumation of the continental Eurasian interior and the prevailing tectonic processes at the plate margins. Whereas most of the thermochronological data across both regions document late Jurassic -Cretaceous regional basement cooling, older landscape relics and dissecting fault zones throughout both regions preserve Triassic and Cenozoic events of rapid cooling, respectively. Triassic cooling is thought to reflect the Qiangtang-Eurasia collision and/or rifting/subsidence in the West Siberian basin. Alternatively, this cooling signal could be related with the terminal terrane-amalgamation of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt. For the Kygyz Tianshan, late Jurassic-Cretaceous regional exhumation and Cenozoic fault reactivations can be linked with specific tectonic events during the closure of the Palaeo-Tethys and Neo-Tethys Oceans, respectively. The effect of the progressive consumption of these oceans and the associated collisions of Cimmeria and India with Eurasia probably only had a minor effect on the exhumation of the Siberian Altai-Sayan. More likely, tectonic forces from the east （present-day co- ordinates） as a result of the building and collapse of the Mongol-Okhotsk orogen and rifting in the Baikal region shaped the current Siberian Altai-Sayan topography. Although many of these hypothesised links need to be tested further, they allow a first-order insight into the dynamic response and the stress propagation pathways from the Eurasian margin into the continental interior.

Indole and Its Derivatives as Corrosion Inhibitors for C-Steel during Pickling

The corrosion of three types of C-steel in 10% hydrochloric acid solution has been investigated in the absence and the presence of the inhibitors, indole (A), indole acetic acid (B), indole butyric acid (C), and 3-acetyl indole (D), by weight-loss measurements at different temperatures (30～70℃). Intercalation and Stability of Layered Semiconductive Material in Corrosive Environment

The intercalation of 4-methyl pyridine （4-picoline） into layered semiconductive material （MnPS3） and the stability of the resulting materials in corrosive environments （water, HCI and open atmosphere） were investigated. Powder X-ray diffraction （XRD） indicated that the presence of water and hydrochloric acid greatly influenced the existing form of intercalation and its orientation in the interlayer of the host. Atmospheric environment （open air） affected the guest orientation in the interlayer of the host material. Phase transformation occurred and the material was stable. The intercalated compounds could be indexed in the trigonal unit cell. The XRD patterns exhibited sharp hkl reflections of the intercalated compounds, which formed in water and HCI, confirming that the materials were well crystalline and stable in corrosive environments.
