We report the confirmation of a sub-Saturn-size exoplanet,TOI-1194 b,with a mass of about 0.456+0.055-0.051M_(J),and a very low mass companion star with a mass of about 96.5±1.5 MJ,TOI-1251 *** candidates provided by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)are suitable for further follow-up observations by ground-based telescopes with small and medium *** analysis is performed based on data from several telescopes worldwide,including telescopes in the Sino-German multiband photometric campaign,which aimed at confirming TESS Objects of Interest(TOIs)using ground-based small-aperture and medium-aperture telescopes,especially for long-period ***-1194 b is confirmed based on the consistent periodic transit depths from the multiband photometric *** measure an orbital period of 2.310644±0.000001 days,the radius is 0.767+0.045-0.041RJ and the amplitude of the RV curve is 69.4_(-7.3)^(+7.9)m s^(-1).TOI-1251 B is confirmed based on the multiband photometric and high-resolution spectroscopic data,whose orbital period is 5.963054+0.000002-0.000001days,radius is 0.947+0.035-0.033 R_(J) and amplitude of the RV curve is 9849_(-40)^(+42)ms^(-1).

Evaluation of the Neurodevelopmental Outcome of Toddlers with Spinal Dysraphism after Surgical Repair Using ASQ-3^™ Scores

Background: Spinal dysraphism represents a wide spectrum of congenital abnormalities of the spine. Myelomeningocele is considered the most common malformation and the most common we saw in our community, with its morbidity problems seen commonly in the postoperative period. ASQ-3TM Scores are the ages and stages questionnaire, third edition, and represent a tool to assess the development progress, especially in toddlers. Objectives: Evaluation of neurodevelopmental outcome among Sudanese toddlers with spinal dysraphism after surgical closure with or without a VP shunt using ASQ-3TM Scores. Methodology: This is a retrospective hospital-based study of 84 patients who underwent myelomeningocele repair at the National Center for Neurological sciences (NCNS) during the period from 2017 up to 2019. Data were collected through a constructed questionnaire, including ASQ-3TM Scores. Data were processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) computer program. Version 25. Results: 84 patients were included in this study;all patients were diagnosed with spinal dysraphism. Out of them, 51 (60.7%) were 2 years old, 33 (39.3%) were 3 years old, 45 (53.6%) were male, 45 (53.6%) of patients mothers attended ANC irregularly, and 54 (64.3%) their mothers didn’t receive folate supplements. 44 (52.3%) of patients underwent MMC repair only, while 40 (47.7%) underwent MMC repair and VP shunt. The commonest postoperative complication was infection, reported in 12 (14.3%) of patients, followed by VP shunt revision in 9 (10.7%) of patients. Neurological assessment showed that the majority of patients need further assessment with a professional, 57 (67.9%) of children don’t walk, run, or climb like other toddlers as their parent’s state;also, half of patients (42, 50%) had medical problems, and 27 (32.1%) of their parent’s state that they do not talk like other toddlers their age. Nuclear mass predictions based on a deep neural network and finite-range droplet model(2012)

A neural network with two hidden layers is developed for nuclear mass prediction,based on the finiterange droplet model(FRDM12).Different hyperparameters,including the number of hidden units,choice of activation functions,initializers,and learning rates,are adjusted explicitly and *** resulting mass predictions are achieved by averaging the predictions given by several different sets of hyperparameters with different regularizers and seed *** can provide not only the average values of mass predictions but also reliable estimations in the mass prediction *** overall root-mean-square deviations of nuclear mass are reduced from 0.603 MeV for the FRDM12 model to 0.200 MeV and 0.232 MeV for the training and validation sets,respectively.

Killing of Staphylococcus aureus by allylpyrocatechol is potentiated by induction of intracellular oxidative stress and inhibition of catalase activity

OBJECTIVE： This study investigated the effects of allylpyrocatechol （APC）, the major component in ethanolic extract of Piper betle, on key oxidative stress resistance enzymes important for the survival of Staphylococcus aureus, a major pathogen in the human host. METHODS： Effects of APC on expressions of genes encoding catalase （katA）, superoxide dismutases （SODs）, including soda and sodM, and alkyl hydroperoxide reductase （ahpC） in S. aureus were quantitated by RT-qPCR in reference to gyrA and 16S rRNA. Corresponding activities of the enzymes were also investigated. The Livak analysis was performed for verification of gene-fold expression data. Effects of APC on intracellular and extracellular reactive oxygen species （ROS） levels were determined using the nitroblue tetrazolium （NBT） reduction assay. RESULTS： APC-treated S. aureus cells had higher sodA and sodM transcripts at 1.5-fold and 0.7-fold expressions respectively with corresponding increase in total SOD activity of 12.24 U/mL compared to untreated cells, 10.85 U/mL （P〈0.05）. Expression of ahpC was highest in APC-treated cells with 5.5-fold increased expression compared to untreated cells （P〈0.05）. Correspondingly, ahpC activity was higher in APC-treated cells at 0.672 （A310nm） compared to untreated cells which was 0.394 （A310nm）. In contrast, katA expression was 1.48-fold and 0.33-fold lower respectively relative to gyrA and 16S rRNA. Further, APC-treated cells showed decreased catalase activity of 1.8 × 10^-4 （U/L or μmol/（min.L）） compared to untreated cells, which was 4.8 × 10^-4 U/L （P〈0.05）. Absorbance readings （A575nm） for the NBT reduction assay were 0.709 and 0.695 respectively for untreated and treated cells, which indicated the presence of ROS. APC-treated S. aureus cells had lower ROS levels both extracellularly and intracellularly, but larger amounts remained intracellularly compared to extracellular levels with absorbances of 0.457 and 0.137 respectively （P〈0.05）. Endogenous reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide have opposite roles in regulating HIF-1alpha expression in hypoxic astrocytes

Ischemic stroke results in cerebral tissue hypoxia and increased expression of hypoxia-inducible factor(HIF), which is critically implicated in ischemic brain injury. Understanding the mechanisms of HIF-1 alpha regulation in the ischemic brain has been an important research focus. The generation of both nitric oxide(NO) and reactive oxygen species(ROS) is increased under hypoxic/ischemic conditions and each of them has been independently shown to regulate HIF-1 alpha expression. In this study, we investigated the cross-effects of NO and ROS on the expression of HIF-1 alpha in hypoxic astrocytes. Exposure of astrocytes to 2 h-hypoxia remarkably increased HIF-1 alpha protein levels, which was accompanied by increased NO and ROS production. Decreasing ROS with NAC, NADPH oxidase inhibitor DPI,or SOD mimetic Mn TMPy P decreased hypoxia-induced HIF-1 alpha protein accumulation and increased NO level in hypoxic astrocytes. The NO synthase(NOS) inhibitor L-NAME inhibited ROS generation,which led to a reduction in hypoxia-induced HIF-1 alpha protein expression. Although NOS inhibitor or ROS scavengers alone reduced HIF-1 alpha protein levels, the reduction was reversed when NOS inhibitor and ROS scavenger present together. The NO scavenger PTIO increased hypoxia-induced HIF-1 alpha protein expression and ROS production, while HIF-1 alpha protein level was decreased in the presence of NO scavenger and ROS scavenger together. These results suggest that ROS, NO, and their interaction critically contribute to the regulation of hypoxia-induced HIF-1 alpha protein accumulation under hypoxic condition. Furthermore, our results indicate that hypoxia-induced NO generation may represent an endogenous mechanism for balancing ROS-mediated hypoxic stress, as reflected by inhibiting hypoxia-induced HIF-1 alpha protein accumulation.

The burden of disease on HIV-infected orphaned and non-orphaned children accessing primary health facilities in a rural district with poor resources in South Africa: a cross-sectional survey of primary caregivers of HIV-infected children aged 5–18 years

Poisonous Plants of the Karakalpak Part of the Ustyurt Plateau (Uzbekistan)

The article presents the composition and current state of poisonous plants distributed on the Ustyurt plateau. Ustyurt is one of the largest deserts in Central Asia, differing from other deserts of the world in geographical location, relief, flora and fauna and other features. The territory of Ustyurt occupies 21.3 million hectares, of which the Karakalpak part accounts for 7.2 million hectares. Poisonous alkaloid-bearing plants of the Karakalpak part of the Ustyurt plateau Anabasis aphylla, Atriplex flabellum, Kalidium capsicum, Salsola arbusculaeformis, Salsola foliosa, Aellenia subaphylla, Anabasis brachiata, Rheum tataricum, Capparis spinosa, Glycyrrhiza aspera. Alkaloid-bearing plants that are not eaten or poorly eaten by cattle Ephedra distachya, Delphinium songaricum, Anabasis salsa, alkaloid-bearing plants eaten by animals without harm Carex physodes, Eremopyrum orientale, Agrophyllum repens, Astragalus amodendron, Astragalus villosissimus, species of the genera Calligonum, Salsola. Poisonous plants of the Karakalpak part of the Ustyurt plateau. An analysis of the pasture flora of the Karakalpak part of the Ustyurt plateau shows that 62 species of wild poisonous plants belonging to 49 genera and 19 families grow here. Although these plants are considered poisonous, but in modern pharmaceutics and medicine, they are used as medicinal.
