The antibacterial activity of beta-lactam antibiotics or their combinations with inhibitor sulbactum against non-lactamase- producing strains, lactamase-producing and ESBLs-producing isolates was evaluated with twofold dilution method after pathogens isolated from pigs and chickens were detected, respectively, for beta-lactamase and extended-spectrum beta- lactamases （ESBLs）, The results revealed that most of 43 clinically isolated strains could produce beta-lactamase and 3 strains of shigella isolated from chicken samples produced ESBLs. All of 30 lactamase-producing strains isolated and only one of 16 non-lactamase-producing strains were resistant to amoxicillin and ampicillin. MICs of ampicillin against lactamaseproducing isolates decreased 10-40 and 10-20 times respectively, when it was conbined with sulbactam at ration of 1：2 and 1：4. All clinical isolates were susceptible to third-generation cephalosporins. The MICs of third-generation cephalosporins against lactamase-producing isolates did not change when they were conbined with sulbactam. MICs of ceftiofur and ceftriaxone against ESBLs-producing isolates decreased 2-4 times when they were conbined with sulbactam.

Identification of compatibility between ooplasmic factor and sperm gene in the intersubspecific crosses involving DDK and PWK mice strains

The DDK strain （Mus musculus domesticus） of inbred mouse has a unique peculiarity known as DDK syndrome. The DDK females are mostly infertile when crossed with males of other inbred strains, while DDK males exhibit normal fertility in the reciprocal crosses, as intrastrain matings. This DDK syndrome has been demonstrated to be caused by an incompatibility system between DDK ooplasmic factor and the sperm gene of other strains owing to the ovum mutant （Ore） locus on mouse Chromosome 11. Recently, it was reported that DDK females are fully fertile when crossed to males of MOM （M. m. molossinus） and CASP （M. m. castaneus） strains, indicating that no incompatibilities exist between DDK ooplasmic factor and sperm gene of MOM or CASP males. In the present study, DDK females were found to be also fully fertile when crossed to the males of PWK wild-derived inbred strain （originated from Czech Republic wild mice, M. m. musculus）. The crosses of DDK females × F1 （DDK9 × PWK♀） males also resulted in normal fertility. Furthermore, the transmission ratios of Om alleles from these Fl males to their backcross N2 offspring are 50%：50% as genotyped by microsatellite markers closely linked to Om locus. Moreover, it was demonstrated that PWK females are also fully fertile when crossed to DDK males. All above results indicated that no incompatibility exists between ooplasmic factor and sperm gene in the intersubspecific crosses with DDK and PWK strains. PWK strain would also be useful for further investigations on the DDK syndrome, and DDK strain can be used more widely for various studies in the mouse.

A novel anhydrogalactosucrose derivative 2＇-methoxyl-O-1＇,4＇：3＇,6＇-dianhydro-fl-D-fructofuranosyl 3,6-anhydro- 4-chloro-4-deoxy-a-D-galactopyranoside （4） was prepared from 3,6： 1＇,4＇：3＇,6＇-trianhydro-4-chloro-4-deoxy- galactosucrose （3） via a facile method and characterized by IH NMR, 13C NMR and 2D NMR spectra. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the title molecule forms a two thee-dimensional network structure by two kinds of hydrogen bond interactions [O（2）--H（2）-＇-O（7）, O（5）--H（5） O（8）]. Its stability was investigated by acid hydrolysis reaction treated with sulfuric acid, together with the formation of 1,6-Di-O-rnethoxy- 4-chloro-4-deoxy-fl-D-galactopyranose （5） and 2,2-Di-C-methoxy-1,4：3,6-dianhydromannitol （6）. According to the result, the relative stability of the ether bonds in the structure is in the order： C（1）--O--C（5）≈C（3＇）--O--C（6＇）≈C（1＇）--O--C（4＇）〉C（3）--O--C（6）≈C（1）--O---C（2＇）〉C（2＇）--O--C（5＇）.

Cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2),an important enzyme,plays a pathological role in diseases,which can be inhibited by proanthocyanidins(PCs) *** this paper,we investigated the inhibitive mechanism of COX-2 performed by *** transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) was performed to identify the mRNA expression level of COX-2 in A549 cell,which was induced by interleukin-1 beta(IL-1β).The pGL3 luciferase reporter vector containing the COX-2 gene promoter fragment(pGL3/COX-2p) was transfected into A549 cell induced by IL-1β,the interference on the COX-2 promoter activity from PCs was analyzed using a dualluciferase reporter assay,and the expressions of the nuclear factor κB composed of subunit p65(NF-κB/p65) and the inhibitor-κB(I-κB) were measured by the Western blotting and *** results exhibited that PCs not only inhibited the transcript of COX-2 mRNA and the COX-2 promoter activity,but also suppressed the nuclear translocation of NF-κB/p65 protein and the degradation of I-κB protein.

Background:The selection of Marek’s disease(MD)-resistant breeds in Partridge Shank chicken,a popular local chicken breed in Henan Province of China,has practical *** hypothesized that the two polymorphic sites(rs14527240 located in SMOC1 and GGaluGA156129 located in PTPN3)related to MD resistance in White Leghorn chickens are also applicable to Partridge Shank ***:In this experiment,we screened 10 live hens and 2 live roosters with the double GG genotype by genotyping the two sites from 6500 Partridge Shank *** one-day-old chicks with the double GG genotype were obtained by artificial ***-two one-day-old chickens(19 from the population expansion test and 53 randomly selected from chicken farms)were injected with 2000 plaque-forming units of the Md5 virus *** 100 days of infection,all chickens were examined by pathological anatomical examination,histological sectioning,genotyping,and a quantitative polymerase chain reaction of SMOC1 and ***:There was only one site(rs14527240 located in SMOC1)associated with MD in Partridge Shank chickens(p<0.05),but the GG genotype of SMOC1 in Partridge Shank chickens indicated susceptibility to ***1 expression in MD-susceptible chickens was also significantly higher than that in MDresistant chickens(p<0.05).Conclusion:Therefore,the MD resistance sites selected from White Leghorn chickens were not completely suitable for Partridge Shank chickens,but they can be used as a *** study indicated that SMOC1 plays an important role in screening for MD resistance in poultry.

Pectin-chitosan complex: Preparation and application in colon-specific capsule

Pectin-chitosan complex was prepared as a candidate material for colon-specific ***,the effects of beating on the properties of complex films were *** transform infrared(FT-IR)spectroscopy was used to analyze the reaction mechanics,and an in vitro simulation experiment was performed to determine the degradation ***,the capsule was prepared using pectin-chitosan complex as the main raw material;its targeting effect was evaluated and *** indicated that the film became smooth and compact by ***-IR data indicated that cross-linking occurred between the hydroxyl group of pectin and the amino group of chitosan to form a network *** vitro experiment showed that the pectin-chitosan complex film could not be degraded in the simulated gastric and intestinal ***,pectin-chitosan complex could be degraded in the simulated colonic fluid,so it could be a potential candidate for colon-specific *** the complex has no ability for forming hard capsule,the carrageenan and starch were added to increase the flexibility,gelation,transparency and mechanical properties of the *** preferred composition suitable for preparing the capsule was a mass ratio(2:1:1)of pectin-chitosan/carrageenan/starch *** capsule showed excellent features in terms of shape,water content,and *** drug release rate reached 93.33%in colonic fluid for 1 h when bovine serum albumin was the model ***,pectin-chitosan may be considered as a new material for colon-targeted capsule.

Effect of Soil Texture on Starch Accumulation and Activities of Key Enzymes of Starch Synthesis in the Kernel of ZM 9023

Three kinds of soil texture （clay-loam, mid-loam, and sand-loam soil） were used to study the effects of soil texture on starch accumulating rate and the changes in activities of the key enzymes of starch synthesis in the kernel during grain filling in high gluten content wheat ZM 9023, under conditions of pond culture. The content of starch and its components were measured according to the method of double-wave length described by Bao （1996）. ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase （AGPP） activity was tested according to the method described by Doehlert et al. （1988）. Soluble starch synthase （SSS） and starch branching enzyme （SBE） activities were tested according to the method described by Nakamura et al. （1989）. The amylose, amylopectin, and total starch accumulating rate in the kernel of ZM 9023 were found to be a single-peak curve in three different soil textures during grain filling, and peaked 20, 15, and 15 d after anthesis, respectively. The activities of the enzymes, AGPP, SSS, and SBE, in the kernel of ZM 9023 had a single-peaked curve, which peaked 20, 15, and 15 d after anthesis, respectively. The activities of the above three enzymes of ZM 9023 were higher in the sand-loam soil. The accumulating peak of amylose formed later compared to that of amylopectin. The sand-loam soil could help high gluten content cultivars to synthesize starch.

Microencapsulated Lactobacillus plantarum promotes intestinal development through gut colonization of layer chicks

The effects of Lactobacillus plantarum in microencapsulation(LPM)on intestinal development in layer chicks were investigated in this study,as well as the colonization of *** in the gut.A total of 480 healthy Hy-Line Brown layer chicks at 0 d old were randomly divided into 4 groups(8 replicates each treatment),and the diets of these birds were supplemented with nothing(control),***(0.02 g/kg feed;10^(9) CFU/kg feed),LPM(1.0 g/kg feed;109 CFU/kg feed)and wall material of LPM(WM;0.98 g/kg feed),*** to control,LPM improved growth performance and intestinal development of layer chicks,evidenced by significantly increased body weight,average daily gain,average daily feed intake,villus height,villus height/crypt depth,as well as weight and length of the duodenum,jejunum and ileum(P<0.05).These results could be attributed to the increased colonization of *** in the gut,which was verified by significant increases in lactic acid content,viable counts in chyme and mucosa(P<0.05),as well as a visible rise in number of strains labeled with fluorescein ***,the relative abundances of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium significantly increased in response to microencapsulated *** supplementation(P<0.05),accompanied by the significant up-regulation of colonization related genes(P<0.05),encoding solute carrier family,monocarboxylate transporter,activin A receptor,succinate receptor and secretogranin *** sum up,microencapsulated *** supplementation promoted intestinal development,which could be attributed to the enhancement of *** colonization in the intestine through the mutual assistance of Bifidobacterium and interactions with colonization related transmembrane proteins.

Phytosterols have received extensive attention owing to their excellent cholesterol-lowering activity and the role in cardiovascular diseases prevention. However, poor solubility in both oil and water limited the application of free phytosterols in the food industry. Chemical or enzymatic modifications were effective to improve the physicochemical properties as well as the bioavailability and cholesterollowering activity of phytosterols. Higher oil solubility and lower melting point of phytosterols have been achieved by esterification and transesterification with fatty acids and triacylglycerols so as to enhance the bioavailability, reduce formation of precipitates, and improve the sensory quality of *** the researches on the improvement on its water solubility is a hot topic. Hydrophilic phytosterol derivatives have promising applications in the food industry because most of foods belong to aqueous matrix. Hydrophilic modification is useful and meaningful for phytosterols in both industrial and commercial applications. This review mainly highlights the hydrophilic phytosterol derivatives in the following aspects:(i) hydrophilic modifications of phytosterols by coupling with various polar components;(ii) cholesterol-lowering activity and possible molecular mechanisms of hydrophilic phytosterol derivatives on reducing serum cholesterol level;and(iii) safety evaluation of hydrophilic phytosterol derivatives in cell-culture studies, animal models and clinical trials.
