Background:Following the short-term outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in December 2022 in China,clinical data on kidney transplant recipients(KTRs)with COVID-19 are ***:We conducted a single-center retrospective study to describe the clinical features,complications,and mortality rates of hospitalized KTRs infected with COVID-19 between Dec.16,2022 and Jan.31,*** patients were followed up until Mar.31,***:A total of 324 KTRs with COVID-19 were *** median age was 49 *** median time between the onset of symptoms and admission was 13 ***,azvudine,and nirmatrelvir/ritonavir were administered to 67(20.7%),11(3.4%),and 148(45.7%)patients,***-nine(9.0%)patients were treated with more than one antiviral ***-eight(14.8%)patients were treated with tocilizumab and 53(16.4%)patients received baricitinib *** acute kidney injury(AKI)occurred in 81(25.0%)patients and 39(12.0%)patients were admitted to intensive care *** infections were observed in 55(17.0%)***(15.4%)patients lost their *** 28-d mortality rate of patients was 9.0%and 42(13.0%)patients died by the end of *** Cox regression analysis identified that cerebrovascular disease,AKI incidence,interleukin(IL)-6 level of>6.8 pg/mL,daily dose of corticosteroids of>50 mg,and fungal infection were all associated with an increased risk of death for hospitalized ***:Our findings demonstrate that hospitalized KTRs with COVID-19 are at high risk of *** administration of immunomodulators or the late application of antiviral drugs does not improve patient survival,while higher doses of corticosteroids may increase the death risk.

According to the Global Burden of disease Study 2017,there are 132 million patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)in China,^([1])and the prevalence of hypertension in Chinese patients with CKD(67.3%)is significantly higher than that in the general population(23.2%).^([2,3])CKD is both a cause and a consequence of hypertension,and these two conditions form a vicious cycle that leads to the high prevalence rate of hypertension in patients with *** hypertension accelerates the deterioration of renal function,which significantly increases the risk of developing end-stage renal disease(ESRD),as well as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases,leading to poor patient outcomes.

Distribution of Traditional Chinese Medicine syndromes in diabetic kidney disease chronic kidney disease 1-5: a correlation study

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the distribution of Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndromes in patients with diabetic kidney disease(DKD) and its related ***: We enrolled 435 patients with DKD, who were not undergoing dialysis, admitted to the Department of Nephrology, First Medical center, Chinese PLA General Hospital from April 2020 to August *** of their TCM syndromes and related factors was carried ***: The 435 patients included 109, 117, 86, and 123 chronic kidney disease(CKD) 1-2, CKD3, CKD4, and CKD5 cases, respectively. With the progression of CKD1-5, the proportion of Yin deficiency and dry heat syndrome,and that of Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome showed a downward trend, whereas the proportion of spleen-kidney Yang deficiency, blood deficiency, blood stasis, water stagnation, and phlegm turbidity syndromes showed an upward trend; the differences were statistically significant(P kidney Yin deficiency syndrome was positively correlated with age(OR = 1.028, P = 0.021) and glycosylated hemoglobin(OR = 1.223, P = 0.007) but negatively correlated with total cholesterol(OR = 0.792, P = 0.006).Spleen-kidney Yang deficiency syndrome was negatively correlated with hemoglobin(OR = 0.977, P < 0.001),albumin(OR = 0.891, P < 0.001), and eGFR(OR = 0.978,P < 0.001) but positively correlated with high density lipoprotein(OR = 3.376, P = 0.001). clinical relevance of distolingual roots and periodontal status in mandibular first molars: a cross-sectional study employing CBCT analysis

MicroRNA-146a-loaded magnesium silicate nanospheres promote bone regeneration in an inflammatory microenvironment

Reconstruction of irregular oral-maxillofacial bone defects with an inflammatory microenvironment remains a challenge,as chronic local inflammation can largely impair bone ***,we used magnesium silicate nanospheres(MSNs)to load microRNA-146a-5p(miR-146a)to fabricate a nanobiomaterial,MSN+miR-146a,which showed synergistic promoting effects on the osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells(hDPSCs).In addition,miR-146a exhibited an anti-inflammatory effect on mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages(BMMs)under lipopolysaccharide(LPS)stimulation by inhibiting the NF-κB pathway via targeting tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6(TRAF6),and MSNs could simultaneously promote M2 polarization of ***-146a was also found to inhibit osteoclast ***,the dual osteogenic-promoting and immunoregulatory effects of MSN+miR-146a were further validated in a stimulated infected mouse mandibular bone defect model via delivery by a photocuring ***,the MSN+miR-146a complex revealed good potential in treating inflammatory irregular oralmaxillofacial bone defects.

Molecular mechanisms underlying microglial sensing and phagocytosis in synaptic pruning

Microglia are the main non-neuronal cells in the central nervous system that have important roles in brain development and functional connectivity of neural circuits. In brain physiology, highly dynamic microglial processes are facilitated to sense the surrounding environment and stimuli. Once the brain switches its functional states, microglia are recruited to specific sites to exert their immune functions, including the release of cytokines and phagocytosis of cellular debris. The crosstalk of microglia between neurons, neural stem cells, endothelial cells, oligodendrocytes, and astrocytes contributes to their functions in synapse pruning, neurogenesis, vascularization, myelination, and blood-brain barrier permeability. In this review, we highlight the neuron-derived “find-me,” “eat-me,” and “don’t eat-me” molecular signals that drive microglia in response to changes in neuronal activity for synapse refinement during brain development. This review reveals the molecular mechanism of neuron-microglia interaction in synaptic pruning and presents novel ideas for the synaptic pruning of microglia in disease, thereby providing important clues for discovery of target drugs and development of nervous system disease treatment methods targeting synaptic dysfunction.

To the Editor:5q spinal muscular atrophy(5qSMA)is an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disorder caused by the lack of the survival motor neuron(SMN)protein encoded by the SMN1 gene,located at 5q11.2-q13.3.[1]The incidence is 1/10,000-1/6000 live births,and the mutation carrier rate in China is 1/42.[1]Spinal muscular atrophy(SMA)is mainly divided into four subtypes:SMA type I,II,III,and IV,based on the motor milestones ever *** I-III occur in children,[1]which often result in progressive muscular atrophy and weakness as well as multi-system dysfunction,including nutritional and metabolic issues.[2]Children with SMA may have hidden nutritional and lipid imbalances,despite normal body appearance and anthropometric measurements,making it difcult to detect early and intervene.

Background:Whether functional gastrointestinal disorders(FGIDs)are associated with the long-term risk of chronic kidney disease(CKD)remains *** aimed to investigate the prospective association of FGIDs with CKD and examine whether mental health mediated the ***:About 416,258 participants without a prior CKD diagnosis enrolled in the UK Biobank between 2006 and 2010 were *** with FGIDs(including irritable bowel syndrome[IBS],dyspepsia,and other functional intestinal disorders[FIDs;mainly composed of constipation])were the exposure group,and non-FGID participants were the non-exposure *** primary outcome was incident CKD,ascertained from hospital admission and death registry records.A Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to investigate the association between FGIDs and CKD,and the mediation analysis was performed to investigate the mediation proportions of mental ***:At baseline,33,156(8.0%)participants were diagnosed with FGIDs,including 21,060(5.1%),8262(2.0%),and 6437(1.6%)cases of IBS,dyspepsia,and other FIDs,*** a mean follow-up period of 12.1 years,11,001(2.6%)participants developed *** were significantly associated with a higher risk of incident CKD compared to the absence of FGIDs(hazard ratio[HR],1.36;95%confidence interval[CI],1.28-1.44).Similar results were observed for IBS(HR,1.27;95%CI,1.17-1.38),dyspepsia(HR,1.30;95%CI,1.17-1.44),and other FIDs(HR,1.60;95%CI,1.43-1.79).Mediation analyses suggested that the mental health score significantly mediated 9.05%of the association of FGIDs with incident CKD and 5.63-13.97%of the associations of FGID subtypes with ***,the positive associations of FGIDs and FGID subtypes with CKD were more pronounced in participants with a high genetic risk of ***:Participants with FGIDs had a higher risk of incident CKD,which was partly explained by mental health scores and was more pronounced in those with high gen
