Combustion aerosols and suspended dust with controlled processes in Lhasa:Elemental analysis and size distribution characteristics

To explore air contamination resulting from special biomass combustion and suspended dust in Lhasa,the present study focused on the size distribution and chemical characteristics of particulate matter(PM)emission resulting from 7 types of non-fossil pollution *** investigated the concentration and size distribution of trace elements from 7 pollution sources collected in *** Lhasa’s atmospheric particulate matter data,enrichment factors(EFs)have been calculated to examine the potential impact of those pollution sources on the atmosphere quality of *** highest mass concentration of total elements of biomass combustion appeared at PM_(0.4),and the second highest concentration existed in the size fraction 0.4-1μm;the higher proportion(12%)of toxicmetals was produced by biomass *** elemental composition of suspended dust and atmospheric particulate matter was close(except for As and Cd);the highest concentration of elements was all noted in PM_(2.5-10)(PM3-10).Potassium was found to be one of the main biomass *** proportion of Cu in suspended dust is significantly lower than that of atmospheric particulate matter(0.53%and 3.75%),which indicates that there are other anthropogenic *** EFs analysis showed that the Cr,Cu,Zn,and Pb produced by biomass combustion were highly enriched(EFs>100)in all particle *** EFs of most trace elements increased with decreasing particle size,indicating the greater influence of humanfactors on smaller particles.

Influence of the Scandinavian Pattern on Summer Extreme Precipitation over the Eastern Slopes of the Tibetan Plateau

The Scandinavian(SCA) pattern is an important climate signal in regulating the variability of summer extreme precipitation(SEP) over the eastern slopes of the Tibetan Plateau(ESTP). There is a strong negative correlation between the SCA pattern and SEP over the ESTP, with a correlation coefficient of -0.57. Moisture budget analysis showed that the dynamic component anomalies of both the zonal and vertical moisture advection induced by the SCA pattern play the dominant roles in extreme precipitation variability over the ESTP. These anomalies are solely linked to variations in zonal wind and vertical velocity. The anomalies of the SCA pattern propagate downstream through Rossby waves, leading to the formation of cyclonic circulations over northern East Asia and the Iranian Plateau. The westerlies on the southern side of these cyclonic circulations play a crucial role in influencing the development of significant anomalous westerlies over the ESTP. The anomalous westerlies bring climatologically moist air from the Tibetan Plateau(TP) to the ESTP, resulting in positive zonal moisture advection anomalies over the area. Furthermore, these anomalous westerlies transport climatologically warm air from the TP to the ESTP, leading to significant warm advection anomalies and vertical upward motion anomalies over the ESTP. The upward motion carries lower-tropospheric moisture upward, resulting in positive vertical moisture advection anomalies over the ESTP. The combination of these positive zonal and vertical moisture advection anomalies eventually leads to excessive SEP.

Aerosol optical depth(AOD)and fine particulate matter with a diameter of less than or equal to 2.5μm(PM_(2.5))play crucial roles in air quality,human health,and climate ***,the complex correlation of AOD–PM_(2.5)and the limitations of existing algorithms pose a significant challenge in realizing the accurate joint retrieval of these two parameters at the same *** this point,a multi-task learning(MTL)model,which enables the joint retrieval of PM_(2.5)concentration and AOD,is proposed and applied on the top-of-the-atmosphere reflectance data gathered by the Fengyun-4A Advanced Geosynchronous Radiation Imager(FY-4A AGRI),and compared to that of two single-task learning models—namely,Random Forest(RF)and Deep Neural Network(DNN).Specifically,MTL achieves a coefficient of determination(R^(2))of 0.88 and a root-mean-square error(RMSE)of 0.10 in AOD *** comparison to RF,the R^(2)increases by 0.04,the RMSE decreases by 0.02,and the percentage of retrieval results falling within the expected error range(Within-EE)rises by 5.55%.The R^(2)and RMSE of PM_(2.5)retrieval by MTL are 0.84 and 13.76μg m~(-3)*** with RF,the R^(2)increases by 0.06,the RMSE decreases by 4.55μg m~(-3),and the Within-EE increases by 7.28%.Additionally,compared to DNN,MTL shows an increase of 0.01 in R^(2)and a decrease of 0.02 in RMSE in AOD retrieval,with a corresponding increase of 2.89%in *** PM_(2.5)retrieval,MTL exhibits an increase of 0.05 in R^(2),a decrease of 1.76μg m~(-3)in RMSE,and an increase of 6.83%in *** evaluation suggests that MTL is able to provide simultaneously improved AOD and PM_(2.5)retrievals,demonstrating a significant advantage in efficiently capturing the spatial distribution of PM_(2.5)concentration and AOD.

An Objective Synoptic Analysis Technique for the Identification of Tropical Cyclone Remote Precipitation in China and Its Application

At present,the identification of tropical cyclone remote precipitation(TRP)requires subjective participation,leading to inconsistent results among different researchers despite adopting the same identification ***,establishing an objective identification method is greatly *** this study,an objective synoptic analysis technique for TRP(OSAT_TRP)is proposed to identify TRP using daily precipitation datasets,historical tropical cyclone(TC)track data,and the ERA5 reanalysis *** method includes three steps:first,independent rain belts are separated,and those that might relate to TCs'remote effects are distinguished according to their distance from the ***,the strong water vapor transport belt from the TC is identified using integrated horizontal water vapor transport(IVT).Third,TRP is distinguished by connecting the first two *** TRP obtained through this method can satisfy three criteria,as follows:1)the precipitation occurs outside the circulation of TCs,2)the precipitation is affected by TCs,and 3)a gap exists between the TRP and TC rain *** diagnosis analysis,compared with subjective TRP results and backward trajectory analyses using HYSPLIT,indicates that OSAT_TRP can distinguish TRP even when multiple TCs in the Northwest Pacific are ***,we applied the OSAT_TRP to select typical TRPs and obtained the synoptic-scale environments of the TRP through composite analysis.

Perfluoroalkyl acid analogs(PFAAs)are a class of chemically stable environmentally persistent organic pollutants(POPs)that are difficult to degrade and have a strong capacity to accumulate in the human *** have been found to be biotoxic to humans and have been detected in various environmental media,especially in the cryosphere at trace *** cryosphere,sensitively responds to climate change,plays a crucial role in the global water,carbon and energy ***,researches on cryosphere PFAAs especially in Tibetan Plateau(TP)is ***,we summarize the physicochemical properties,physiological toxicity,spatiotemporal distribution,sources,diffusion and migration pathways,as well as analysis and removal methods of PFAAs in the cryosphere *** results show that PFAAs pollutants are mainly produced and distributed in the more economically developed countries in Europe and the United States,as well as in East Asia,and PFAAs can be transported by atmospheric circulation and water cycle to remote regions including cryosphere *** current detection methods for PFAAs in cryosphere need to be further refined for increased accuracy and *** is also a need to develop more effective removal methods that will reduce the environmental and human threats posed by these ***,we propose key scientific questions for future research in cryosphere including PFAAs redistribution influenced by cryosphere changes,human activities,and the interaction of other spheres.

Characteristics and Influencing Factors of PM2.5-O3 Composite Pollution in Henan Province

The PM2.5-O3 composite pollution in Henan Province has notable impacts on the economy,society,and daily life of the region,exhibiting a more complex nature than single pollution. Therefore,this study utilized air quality data,ground - based meteorological data,boundary layer height,CO concentration,emission inventory,and other information from 17 cities in Henan Province to investigate the spatial-temporal distribution,formation causes,and influencing factors of PM2.5-O3 composite pollution from May 2014 to December 2023. The PSCF and CWT methods were used to identify possible source areas of composite pollution. The results showed that:① Due to the government's control of PM2.5 pollution and the impact of the epidemic,the PM2.5-O3composite pollution events in Henan Province from 2014 to 2023 showed an overall downward trend,however,rebounded during the resumption of work and production after the epidemic in 2022. Before 2018,O3 concentration was the major factor determining the occurrence of composite pollution due to severe PM2.5 pollution. After 2018,the decrease in PM2.5 concentration increased its importance,especially the decrease in PM2.5 concentration from May to September in Henan Province,which was the primary reason for the reduction in composite pollution frequency in recent years. ② The monthly distribution of composite pollution showed a bimodal pattern,with peaks in April and October,corresponding to two periods when O3 increased while PM2.5 decreased and O3 decreased while PM2.5 increased,respectively,whereas the rainy season in July and August had a mitigating effect on composite pollution. ③ The severity of composite pollution in Henan Province was in the order of north > central > south and the topography also had a certain impact on the severity of composite pollution. ④ The meteorological conditions during the occurrence of composite pollution were moderate temperature,specific humidity,and CO concentration between PM2.5 pollution and O3 polluti

Changing characteristics and spatial differentiation of spring precipitation in Southwest China during 1961-2012

In this study,we analyze spring precipitation from 92 meteorological stations spanning between 1961 and 2012 to understand temporal-spatial variability and change of spring precipitation over Southwest *** analysis methods are used for different purposes,including empirical orthogonal function（EOF） analysis and rotated EOF（REOF） for analyzing spatial structure change of precipitation anomaly,and the Mann-Kendall testing method to determine whether there were abrupt changes during the analyzed time *** find that the first spatial mode of the precipitation has a domain uniform structure;the second is dominated by a spatial dipole;and the third contains five variability *** 2000 s is the decade with the largest amount of precipitation while the 1990 s is the decade with the smallest amount of *** year-to-year difference of that region is large：the amount of the largest precipitation year doubles that of the smallest precipitation *** also find that spring precipitation in Southwest China experienced a few abrupt changes：a sudden increase at 1966,a sudden decrease at 1979,and a sudden increase at *** speculate that the spring precipitation will increase gradually in the next two decades.

An Improved Method for Correction of Air Temperature Measured Using Different Radiation Shields

The variation of air temperature measurement errors using two different radiation shields （DTR502B Vaisala,Finland,and HYTFZ01,Huayun Tongda Satcom,China） was *** were collected in the field at the Daxing weather station in Beijing from June 2011 to May *** air temperature values obtained with these two commonly used radiation shields were lower than the reference records obtained with the new Fiber Reinforced Polymers （FRP） Stevenson *** most cases,the air temperature errors when using the two devices were smaller on overcast and rainy days than on sunny days; and smaller when using the imported rather than the Chinese *** measured errors changed sharply at sunrise and sunset,and reached maxima at *** diurnal variation characteristics were,naturally,related to changes in solar *** relationships between the record errors,global radiation,and wind speed were *** improved correction method was proposed based on the approach described by Nakamura and Mahrt （2005）（NM05）,in which the impact of the solar zenith angle （SZA） on the temperature error is considered and extreme errors due to changes in SZA can be corrected *** errors were reduced significantly after correction by either method for both *** error reduction rate using the improved correction method for the Chinese and imported shields were 3.3％ and 40.4％ higher than those using the NM05 method,respectively.
