Variations in growth traits and wood physicochemical properties among Pinus koraiensis families in Northeast China

This study aimed to explore and improve the different economic values of Pinus koraiensis(Siebold and Zucc.)by examining the variations in 6 growth traits and 9 physicochemical wood properties among 53 *** half-sib *** traits assessed included height,diameter at breast height,volume,degree of stem straight-ness,stem form,and branch number per node,while wood properties assessed included density,fiber length and width,fiber length to width ratio,and cellulose,hemicel-lulose,holocellulose,lignin,and ash *** for degree of stem straightness and branch number per node,all other traits exhibited highly significant variations(P<0.01)among *** coefficients of variation ranged from 5.3(stem form)to 66.7%(ash content),whereas,the herit-ability ranged from 0.136(degree of stem straightness)to 0.962(ash content).Significant correlations were observed among growth traits and wood physicochemical *** component analysis identified four distinct groups representing growth traits,wood chemical and physical properties,and stem form ***-trait comprehensive evaluation identified three groups of elite families based on breeding objectives,including rapid growth,improved timber production for building and furniture materials,and pulpwood *** specific families should be used to establish new plantations.

Microbial population in rotten living body of Salix matsudana

The microbial population in rotten living body of Salix matsudana caused by Trametes suaveolens (L.) was researched. 11 bacteria species (1 species of Bacillus, 2 species of Clostridium and 8 species of non-brood-cell bacteria), 1 species of Actinomyces that belongs to Lavendulac, 8 species of fungi and 6 species of Trichoderma were isolated from rotten trunk. The hyphae of Trametes suaveolens mainly existed between rotten sections and discoioration sections. In over-rotten section and healthy section the fungi (Trametes suaveolens) were not isolated. The microbes that lived in the discoloration section were the most in kinds and number and they were the pioneer microbes of wood rotting. Only after they dwelled in wood and eIiminated its rot-resistance,could wood-rotting fungi invade wood and caused wood-rotting.

Progress on pollen-stigma compatibility in Corylus (hazelnuts): a review

The genus Corylus is an important member in the Betulaceae family of the order Fagales. Self-incompatibility is one of the choke points in breeding and hazelnut production. This reviewe describes, the progress on pollen-stigma compatibility in Corylus, including basic re- productive characteristics, S-alleles testing and their applications, in- ter-specific hybridization, self-compatibility in wild species, and recent molecular research on the genetic mechanism of compatibility. Com- pared with other species, progress on pollen-stigma compatibility （sporophytic self-incompatibility, SSI） in Corylus is slow, especially those in the Brassicaceae family. De novo approaches should be used to target the unique reproductive characteristics of hazelnuts. The continu- ous improvement of technological platforms based on molecular biology should broaden the pathways in investigating compatibility in Corylus. In addition, research should be conducted on overcoming self- and cross- incompatibility, and approaches based on biological, chemical, and physical principles should be introduced. Both theoretical and practical study of compatibility in Corylus should be devoted to change the self-incompatibility trait into a benefit in the species evolvement and nut quality establishment.

To characterize the effects of plantation densities on the growth characteristics(diameter at breast level,tree height and volume)and the common wood properties,38-year-old Populus simonii 9 *** clones planted with four levels of spacing(2 m 92 m,3 m 93 m,4 m 94 m,and 5 m 95 m)in a semi-arid area in northeastern China were *** results of ANOVA showed significant differences(P\0.01)for all the investigated growth traits and wood properties under different plantation densities,except for the chemical composition of *** repeatability and phenotypic variations of all the traits varied from 0.34 to 0.99 and from 13.45 to 59.65%,*** for wood density,which was significantly negatively correlated with the growth traits,a positive correlation was observed between the growth traits and all the other wood mechanical ***,most of the correlations between the growth traits and the chemical composition of the wood were not *** path analysis for the wood mechanical characteristics and the growth in the prediction of volume were significant and ranged from 0.18 to 0.72 for wood density and diameter at breast height,respectively,while those for the chemical composition of wood ranged from 0.001 to 0.336,which showed a low impact on the *** highest stand volume(610 m3)per hectare was observed with the 2 m 92 m spacing,which consequently provided a high total price and income,while a high individual volume growth per tree was observed with the 5 m 95 m *** results suggested that for the poplar trees younger than 40 years in a semi-arid area in China,2 m 92 m spacing is suitable for obtaining a high volume per hectare,while 5 m 95 m spacing is best for obtaining a high individual volume per tree.

Magnoliids represent the third largest branch of the most diverse and species-rich angiosperms,and their phylogenetic position relative to monocots and eudicots remains uncertain(Dong et al.,2021).Here,we describe the assembly of a high-quality chromosome-level genome sequence for Cinnamomum camphora(camphor),an evergreen tree belonging to *** phylogenetic analysis indicated possible incomplete lineage sorting(ILS)during the rapid diversification of the early diverging branches of angiosperms,which may have led to the unstable phylogenetic position of magnoliids.

The morphological and cultural characteristics of Hendersonia acicola Munch & Tub,, isolated from the needles of Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica Litvin, were described. The fungi was cultured on three kinds of media and the speed of mycelial growth and the required time to produce conidia were different. On the medium of needle decoction agar, the fungi grew fast and produced conidia after 5 days culturing. On PDA came second and it needed 7 days to produce conidia. On the medium of maize flour agar, it grew slowly and produces conidia after 27 days incubating. The fungi cannot produce conidia under darkness on all three kinds of *** conidia can germinate at 8℃ -28℃. The optimum conditions for conidia to germinate are 25℃, RH 100% and pH 4 and under these conditions it only takes four hours for conidia to germinate. The conidia germination is not affected by

Camellia oleifera *** an important economic tree species of southern *** this study,we evaluated the mating system and genetic diversity of a series of cultivars of ***‘Ruan Zhi’.A total of 159 individuals from the progenies of four cultivars were tested by simple sequence repeat molecular *** reveal that 11 pairs of primers showed polymorphism and their polymorphism information content value was greater than 0.73,suggesting that these primers could be used to identify the genetic diversity of open-pollinated *** average number of effective alleles(Ne=4.88)was significantly different from the average number of alleles(Na=12.18),and their distribution in the sample population was not *** average observed heterozygosity(Ho=0.96)was greater than the average expected heterozygosity(He=0.79),and the population heterozygote was *** index was 1.84 and populations showed high genetic *** regards to the mating system,the multilocus outcrossing rate was 0.996,and the single locus *** results indicate a high degree of outcrossing by ***‘Ruan Zhi’.We recommend selecting individuals for high genetic gain from the progenies of cultivars because of outcrossing characteristics and genetic diversity for application to germplasm conservation and promotion.

Effects of Low Temperature on Operation Efficiencyof Tree-Felling by Chainsaw in North China

Comparison method and vidco-tape recorders were used in case study for recording thc operation performances of two group operators. The time span was 7 months, from September 10 March. The performance of operations in September was taken as references. The results of test survey and data analysis showed that the tree-felling operation efficiency was influenced by cold weather, properly decreased 18.5% in average.

Spatial distribution of needle bright disease of Pinus sylvestris ***

The spatial distribution pattern of needle bright disease was mathematically studied. The results showed that it is tally with negative binomial distribution. The infected area and damaged amount can be forecasted with this spatial distribution pattern. Through the study on probability distribution of spatial points for single tree, the method and equations for calculation of the disease index of whole forest belt were determined.

Investigation on Bird Diversity in Tianzhu Mountain

The bird diversity of Tianzhu Mountain in southwest Anhui Province was investigated by line transect method from 2018 to *** with field survey and historical data analysis,it was found that there were 175 species of birds belonging to 46 families and 16 orders in Tianzhu Mountain.A total of 70 species were recorded in this survey,belonging to 31 families and 9 orders,2 of which,Butastur indicus and Yuhina castaniceps,were newly recorded birds in the *** terms of species number,there were 109 species and 28 families in the order Passeriformes,accounting for 62.29%and 60.87%of all species and *** terms of the composition of bird residence type,resident birds accounted for 45.71%of the total species,followed by summer migratory birds(24.57%),winter migratory birds(17.14%)and travelling birds(12.57%).There were 123 species of breeding birds,accounting for 70.29%of the total *** results suggest that the bird resources in Tianzhu Mountain area are relatively rich,and the monitoring and protection of birds should be strengthened to provide a more adequate research basis for biodiversity conservation in Tianzhu Mountain.
