Treatment of traumatic cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea via extended extradural anterior skull base approach

To describe and assess the repair technique and perioperative management for cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)leak resulting from extensive anterior skull base fracture via extradural anterior skull base approach.;This was a retrospective review conducted at the Department of Neurosurgery of the Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital from January 2015 to April *** with traumatic CSF rhinorrhea resulting from extensive anterior skull base fracture treated surgically via extended extradural anterior skull base approach were included in this *** data of medical and radiological records,surgical approaches,repair techniques,peritoperative management,surgical outcome and postoperative follow-up were *** repair techniques were tailored to the condition of associated injuries of the scalp,bony and dura injuries and associated intracranial *** were followed up for the outcome of CSF leak and surgical *** were presented as frequency and percent.;Thirty-five patients were included in this *** patients'mean age was 33 years(range 11-71 years).Eight patients were treated surgically within 2 weeks;while the other 27 patients,with prolonged or recurrent CSF rhinorrhea,received the repair surgery at 17 days to 10 years after the initial *** mean overall length of follow-up was 23 months(range 3-65 months).All the patients suffered from frontobasal multiple *** basic repair tenet was to achieve watertight seal of the *** frontal pericranial flap alone was used in 20 patients,combined with temporalis muscle and/or its facia in 10 *** fascia lata graft was used instead in the rest 5 *** CSF leak was found in all the patients at *** was no surgical mortality in this *** anosmia was the most common *** follow-up,no recurrent CSF leak or meningitis *** patients developed mucoceles,epidural abscess or *** patient ultimately required ventricu

Rett syndrome is a progressive neurodevelopmental disorder that lacks effective *** deep-brain stimulation can alleviate some symptoms in Rett model mice,this interventional manipula-tion requires deliberate surgical ***,we report that electro-acupuncture stimulation(EAS)can ameliorate symptoms of an Mecp2-knockout rat model of Rett syndrome from the remote acupoints Baihui(GV 20),Yongquan(KI 1),and Shenmen(HT 7).We find that EAS not only prolongs the survival time of Rett rats,but also improves their behavior ability,including locomotion,motor coordination,and social *** activation was observed in the substantia nigra of the midbrain,corpus striatum,and cerebral cortex of wild-type and Rett model rats,as reflected by the increased expression of the c-Fos ***,EAS provides a potential promising therapeutic tool for treating neurodevel-opmental diseases.

Detection of Volatile Components in Leaves and Bark of Picrasma quassioides by GC-MS

[Objectives]This study aimed to analyze the volatile oil components of the leaves and bark of Picrasma quassioides.[Methods]The volatile oils in the leaves and bark of *** were extracted using steam distillation(SD)method and identified with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS).Based on the mass spectrum database(NiST08),combined with artificial spectrum analysis,referring to relevant literature,the base peak and relative abundance were compared to identify the volatile components of the leaves and *** relative content of each component was determined by peak area normalization method.[Results]A total of 24 and 23 chemical components were identified in the leaves and bark of ***,respectively,including 11 common components.[Conclusions]Leaf and bark are different *** contain different volatile chemical components,of which the contents vary *** should be treated differently in the further research and development of *** resources.

Background:Lack of fluoroscopic landmarks can make valve deployment more difficult in patients with absent aortic valve (AV)*** goal of this article was to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness oftranscatheter implantation of a valved stent into the AV position of a goat,assisted with a microcatheter which provides accurate positioning of coronary artery ostia to help valved stent ***:The subjects were 10 healthy goats in this study.A microcatheter was introduced into the distal site of right coronary artery (RCA)through femoral artery sheath.A minimal thoracic surgery approach was used to access the apex of the *** apex of the left ventricle was punctured; a delivery catheter equipped with the valved stent was introduced over a stiffguidewire into the aorta *** could accurately locate the RCA ostia through the microcatheter placed in the RCA under *** correct valve position was confirmed,the valved stent was implanted after rapid inflation of the *** immediate outcome of the function of the valved stents was evaluated after ***:All ten devices were successfully implanted into the AV position of the *** observation after the procedure showed that the valved stents were in the desired position after implantation by angiography,*** obstruction of coronary artery ostia occurred,and no moderate to severe aortic regurgitation was ***:When the procedure of transcatheter implantation of a balloon-expandable valved stent into the AV position of goats is assisted with microcatheter positioning coronary artery ostia,the success rate of operation can be increased in those with noncalcified AV.

Small berries including strawberry and blueberry are extensively consumed fruits with great economic values due to their characteristic flavor and appearance as well as potential health *** review elaborated the optical non-destructive techniques ***-NIR spectroscopy,computer vision system,hyperspectral imaging,multispectral imaging,laser-induced method and thermal imaging,and their applications for quality and safety control of small berry *** discussion regarding the photoacoustic technique,X-ray technique,Terahertz spectroscopy,odor imaging,micro-destructive testing and smart mobile terminal-based analyzer was also ***,we proposed our personal understanding of the technical challenges and further trends for these optical non-destructive techniques:1)owing to the relatively low detection limit,the so-called micro-destructive techniques may be alternative to the traditional non-destructive techniques in both practical and fundamental research;2)we suggest that the research articles like“collecting data first,and then modeling the relevant properties of agricultural products by machine learning”should be less produced in related ***'s because such research methods are likely to be suspected of“cheating”.It is recommended that some modeling competitions can be carried out in the agricultural engineering field to avoid or reduce the“cheating”model.

Pain serves as a defense system to protect the body against further injury and promotes healing of damaged *** to 10%of the worldwide population is affected with pain,and chronic pain significantly diminishes their quality of life in many affected *** mechanisms of chronic pain are *** heritable pain disorders have provided the molecular insights into human pain and suggested new analgesic drug *** ion channel genes have so far been associated with human genetic pain *** we report two large Chinese families(including 28 patients)with autosomal dominant episodic *** performed a genome-wide linkage scan with microsatellite markers after excluding mutations in three known genes(SCN9A,SCN10A and TRPA1)and mapped the genetic locus on chromosome *** using whole exome sequencing followed by conventional Sanger sequencing,we identified two missense mutations in SCN11A encoding voltage-gated sodium channel Na 1.9,c.673C>T(***225Cys)and C.2423C>G(***808Gly)(one in each family).Each mutation showed a perfect co-segregation with the pain phenotype in the corresponding family,and neither of them was detected in 1021 normal *** expressed the two SCN11A mutants in mouse dorsal root ganglion(DRG)neurons and showed that both mutations enhanced the channel’s electrical activities and induced hyperexcitablity of DRG *** together,our results suggest that gain-of-function mutations in SCN11A can be causative of an autosomal dominant episodic pain *** study expands disease causing gene spectrum of pain *** provides rationale base for developing analgesic drug.

[Objectives] This study was conducted to establish a method for determination of chlorogenic acid in Mussaenda pubescens Ait.f.[Methods]HPLC used SHISEIDO C_(18) MG Ⅱ column( 5 μm,4.6 mml.D.× 250 mm) as chromatographic column and acetonitrile-0.4% phosphoric acid solution( 9∶91) as mobile *** separation was performed at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min and a column temperature of 30 ℃,and the detection wavelength was set at 327 nm.[Results]Chlorogenic acid had a good linear relation in the range of 0.254 7-2.547 5 μg( R2= 0.999 9).The recovery rate was 97.8%,RSD = 1.82%( n = 9).[Conclusions]The content of chlorogenic acid in *** was determined by ultrasonic extraction and *** method was simple,stable and reliable and could be used for the quality control of ***.

Background:Cystic fibrosis(CF),the most common life-threatening autosomal recessive disorder in Caucasians,is caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR)*** most common CFTR mutations have been well established among Caucasian CF *** Chinese,we and others have previously identified CFTR mutations in 20 Chinese patients with ***:In this study,eight Chinese patients with a clinical diagnosis of suspected CF were newly collected and screened for CFTR mutations using a combination of conventional Sanger sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification(MLPA)*** mutations in Chinese CF patients,reported previously and identified in the present study,were also ***:We identified ten different mutations in eight newly collected Chinese CF patients including p.F508del,the most common CFcausing mutation in Caucasians,and three novel mutations:c.3635delT,p.V1212Afs15;c.1997T>G,p.L666and c.2907A>C,*** notably,the previously reported mutation p.G970D was found in six patients,making it the most frequent mutation identified so far with a frequency of16.1%(9/56)in total of 28 Chinese CF ***,we noticed that another mutation occurring in combination with p.G970D was always ClassⅠorⅡCFTR mutations,with only one exception(p.A969A).However minigene assay suggested that c.2907A>C,p.A969A led to skipping of exon 17 andgeneration of a premature stop codon after 3 ***:We have detected p.F508del for the first time,identified additional novel CFTR mutations and showed a most frequent CF-causing mutation in Chinese CF *** of the entire CFTR gene followed by MLPA analysis,rather than using the targeted sequencing-based screening panel for mutations commonly found in Caucasian populations,is recommended for genetic analysis in Chinese CF patients.
