This study was carried out to explore the effects of leaching salinity under subsurface drainage and mulched drip irrigation on saline and alkaline land from the year 2012 to 2014 in xinjiang Region of *** sampled points were both set up in the subsurface drainage and ditch drainage *** samples were obtained at varied *** observing the underground water table under each sampled point and measuring the electrical conductivity(EC)of the soil extracts,the following results were obtained:(1)after draining,the underground water table ranged from 1.6 m to 2.2 m in the ditch drainage area,and ranged from 1.5 m to 2.2 m in the subsurface drainage ***,both irrigations could control underground water table below 1.5 m which is deeper than the main water-absorbing layers of crop root systems;(2)for subsurface drainage,the closer to the pipe,the better to leach salinity;decreased from the initial 13.54-22.95 g/kg to 8.20-11.47 g/kg;(3)compared with the amounts in 2012,soil total salt at each sampling point at depths of 0-200 cm in subsurface drainage area decreased by 42.99%,36.84%and 24.41%respectively in 2014;and in ditch drainage area decreased by 46.85%,38.12%and 30.80%respectively in *** results showed both ditch and subsurface drainage could leach salinity effectively.

Effects of nitrogen fertilizer application on saline-alkali land cotton in China quantified using meta-analysis and regression analysis

Nitrogen fertilizer application is an important means to promote cotton production in saline-alkali land.A metaanalysis and regression analysis of 49 peer-reviewed studies were conducted using yield data(373 data points),dry matter accumulation(114 data points),and water use efficiency(157 data points)to quantify the effect of nitrogen fertilizer on the yield,dry matter accumulation,and water use efficiency of cotton in saline-alkali land in China for different planting management practices and different growing *** results showed that the nitrogen application significantly improved the yield,dry matter accumulation,and water use efficiency by 34.11%,36.27%,and 33.87%,respectively,compared with no nitrogen *** largest improvements in the yield,dry matter accumulation,and water use efficiency occurred in areas where saline-alkali land had been improved for many years,in Eastern China,South Central China,and Northwest China(areas with annual average precipitation≤200 mm or>800 mm,and annual average evaporation≤800 mm or>2400 mm),in areas with trickle irrigation,and fields with a planting density of 100000 to 250000 plants/*** exhibited the optimal response to nitrogen application at a rate of 300-375 kg/hm2,a basal application ratio of 20%-40%,and top-dressing in the cotton bud,flowering boll,and full boll *** effect of nitrogen application increased as the salinity increased.A suitable nitrogen application rate,top-dressing ratio,and top-dressing period are crucial for increasing cotton production in saline-alkali land,although environmental differences and planting measures have to be *** study provided information on the correct application of nitrogen fertilizer to maximize its benefits and suggests controlling nitrogen fertilizer inputs in agriculture to protect the soil environment and ensure sustainable agricultural development.

A two-year experiment was established in northern xinjiang to investigate the effects of autumn plowing methods on nitrate nitrogen accumulation,spring-sown soil conditions and cotton emergence rate,and to explore the response relationship between soil water,heat and nitrate *** experiment included five autumn plowing treatments,namely,plough tillage(FG),no-tillage(MG),ridge and furrow alternation(LG),plough tillage with straw mulch(FJ)and plough tillage with activated charcoal mulch(FH).The results showed that both FH and FJ treatments were beneficial to promote the nitrate-nitrogen accumulation in topsoil,while FG,MG and LG treatments aggravated the nitrate nitrogen leaching in *** the freezing period,FH and FJ treatments were beneficial to reduce soil heat loss and facilitate the coordinated upward migration of soil water and nitrate *** the thawing period,FH and FJ treatments favored suppressing the synergistic downward transport of soil water and nitrate-nitrogen and motivated the synergistic upward migration of heat and nitrate nitrogen in deep *** regression analysis suggested that the interaction between water,heat and nitrate nitrogen under FH and FJ treatments showed a highly significant *** and FJ treatments showed obvious advantages in regulating soil conditions and optimizing soil water,heat and nitrate nitrogen co-transport *** the spring sowing period,the FH and FJ treatments increased the average soil temperature by 0.99℃and 1.29℃,and the average soil moisture content by 6.01%and 8.70%,and the average soil nitrate content by 10.20 mg/kg and 10.47 mg/kg,in the 0-25 cm soil layer,*** and FJ treatments significantly grew the emergence rate of cotton,which can be used as the main autumn tillage strategies in arid areas of northern xinjiang.

Fiber damage of machine-harvested cotton before ginning and after lint cleaning

Machine harvesting increases the foreign matter content of seed cotton. Excessive cleaning causes fiber damage and economic loss. Most trading companies in the xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China have indicated reluctance to use machine-harvested cotton. The first objective was to determine how the fiber quality was affected by the ginning and lint cleaning and how the fiber damage during levels of lint cleaning changed. The second objective was to determine the optimum number of lint cleaners for machine-harvested cotton based on fiber damage. Cotton samples were collected from 13 fields and processed in seven ginneries between 2013 and 2015. The results indicated that ginning and lint cleaning didn＇t have significant effect on fiber strength and significantly affected both fiber length and short fiber index. Fiber length was reduced by more than 1.00 mm from six of 13 fields after lint cleaning, then the damage rate on short fiber index from 11 of 13 fields was more than 20%. The third lint cleaning caused great fiber damage, reducing fiber length by 0.35 mm and increasing short fiber index by 0.65%. So, the lint should be cleaned by one lint cleaner in the xinjiang, however, the stage of lint cleaning was sometimes omitted when the foreign matter content of lint was little.

Effects of Increased Night Temperature on Cellulose Synthesis and the Activity of Sucrose Metabolism Enzymes in Cotton Fiber

Temperature is one of the key factors that influence cotton fiber synthesis at the late growth stage of cotton. In this paper, using two early-maturing cotton varieties as experimental materials, night temperature increase was stimulated in the field using far-infrared quartz tubes set in semi-mobile incubators and compared with the normal night temperatures （control） in order to investigate the effects of night temperature on the cotton fiber cellulose synthesis during secondary wall thickening. The results showed that the activity of sucrose synthase （SuSy） and sucrose phosphate synthase （SPS） quickly increased and remained constant during the development of cotton fiber, while the activity of acid invertase （AI） and alkaline invertase （NI） decreased, increased night temperatures prompted the rapid transformation of sugar, and all the available sucrose fully converted into cellulose. With night temperature increasing treatment, an increase in SuSy activity and concentration of sucrose indicate more sucrose converted into UDPG （uridin diphosphate-glucose） during the early and late stages of cotton fiber development. Furthermore, SPS activity and the increased concentration of fructose accelerated fructose degradation and reduced the inhibition of fructose to SuSy; maintaining higher value of allocation proportion of invertase and sucrose during the early development stages of cotton fiber, which was propitious to supply a greater carbon source and energy for cellulose synthesis. Therefore, the minimum temperature in the nightime was a major factor correlated with the activity of sucrose metabolism enzymes in cotton fiber. Consequently, soluble sugar transformation and cellulose accumulation were closely associated with the minimum night temperature.

The aims of this study were to explore the interspecific differences of Populus euphratica *** Populus pruinosa Schrenk populations and the intraspecific differences of males and females within the same species in flowering phenological traits,and the effects of temperatures on flowering phenological traits in different growth years(2001–2003 and 2013–2015).The results showed that *** population flowered earlier than *** ***,flowering phenological period of population,number of days of flowering phenological period per population,number of days of flowering phenological period per plant and average number of days of flowering period per plant of *** population were less than those of *** *** differences between male and female within the same species indicated that the flowering periods of males *** and *** populations were earlier than those of female *** both species,flowering phenological traits were significantly and negatively correlated with the average temperatures in previous ten days,previous one month and previous three months of *** species are sensitive to temperature changes and adjust to the changes by advancing the start of flowering and prolonging the duration of flowering.

After spinal cord injury,the number of glial cells and motor neurons expressing bone morphogenetic protein 7（BMP7）increases,indicating that upregulation of BMP7 can promote nerve ***,therefore,tested whether direct injection of BMP7 into acutely injured ratalalo createrywith 50 ng BMP7（BMP7 group）or physiological saline（control group）for 7 consecutive *** examination showed that the amplitude of N1 in motor evoked potentials（MEP）decreased after spinal cord *** 8 weeks post-operation,the amplitude of N1 in the BMP7 group was remarkably higher than that at 1 week post-operation and was higher than that of the control ***,Beattie,Bresnahan scale（BBB）scores,hematoxylin-eosin staining,and western blot assay showed that at 1,2,4 and 8 weeks post-operation,BBB scores were increased;Nissl body staining was stronger;the number of Nissl-stained bodies was increased;the number of vacuoles gradually decreased;the number of synapses was increased;and the expression of neuronal marker,neurofilament protein 200,was increased in the hind limbs of the BMP7 group compared with the control *** blot assay showed that the expression of GFAP protein in BMP7 group and control group did not change significantly and there was no significant difference between the BMP7 and control *** data confirmed that local injection of BMP7 can promote neuronal regeneration after spinal cord injury and promote recovery of motor function in rats.

Leaf traits can directly reflect the adaptation strategies of plants to the ***,there is limited knowledge on the adaptation strategies of heteromorphic leaves of male and female Populus euphratica *** response to individual developmental stages(i.e.,diameter class)and canopy height *** this study,morphological and physiological properties of heteromorphic leaves of male and female *** were *** showed that both male and female *** exhibited increased leaf area(LA),leaf dry weight(LDW),leaf thickness(LT),net photosynthetic rate(P_(n)),transpiration rate(T_(r)),stomatal conductance(g_(s)),proline(Pro),and malondialdehyde(MDA)concentration,decreased leaf shape index(LI)and specific leaf area(SLA)with increasing diameter and canopy *** water potential(LWP)increased with increasing diameter,LWP decreased significantly with increasing canopy height in both sexes,and carbon isotope fraction(δ^(13)C)increased significantly with canopy height in both sexes,all of which showed obvious resistance ***,males showed greater LA,LT,P_(n),T_(r),and Pro than females at the same canopy height,and males showed significantly higher LA,SLA,LT,P_(n),T_(r),g_(s),and MDA,but lower LWP and δ_(1)3C than females at the same canopy height,suggesting that male *** have stronger photosynthetic and osmoregulatory abilities,and are sensitive to water ***,difference between male and female *** is closely related to the increase in individual diameter class and canopy *** summary,male plants showed higher stress tolerance than female plants,and differences in P_(n),g_(s),T_(r),Pro,MDA,δ_(13)C,and LWP between females and males were related to changes in leaf morphology,diameter class,and canopy *** results of this study provide a theory for the differences in growth adaptation strategies during individual development of ***.

Calculation of the water balance is very important to relieve the pressure on water resources in arid agricultural irrigation *** research focused on irrigation water balance calculations in the Manas River Basin of the southern margin of the Junggar Basin of China,and aimed to analyze the groundwater level dynamic trend and response characteristics of the basin water cycle under water-saving irrigation *** surface water and groundwater coupling model of MIKE 11-Visual MODFLOW was used to simulate rainfall runoff in mountainous areas,and quantify the contribution of water balance components in the plain irrigation *** of the delayed watershed in the mountain area was obvious,and when the river runoff exceeded 200 m^(3)/s,the error in the runoff simulation was *** water balance in the plain agricultural irrigation area was in a negative equilibrium state,and the difference between recharge and discharge was−2.65 billion m^(3).The evapotranspiration was 24.49 billion m^(3) under drip irrigation,accounting for only approximately 51%of the total *** lateral discharge of the unsaturated and saturated aquifers was 15.38 billion m^(3),accounting for approximately 32%of the total *** main reason for the groundwater decline in the irrigation area was closely related to the extraction of groundwater,because the amount of recharge and discharge in the natural state was approximately *** MIKE 11-Visual MODFLOW model produced accurate results,and the research method provided a new exploration technique to quantify the effect of water supply mode on the groundwater *** model is suitable for the management of water resources in arid areas.
