Optimization for the multi-chiller system is an indispensable approach for the operation of highly efficient chiller plants.The optima obtained by model-based optimization algorithms are dependent on precise and solvable objective functions.The classical neural networks cannot provide co.vex input-output mappings despite capturing impressive nonlinear fitting capabilities,resulting in a reduction in the robustness of model-based optimization.In this paper,we leverage the input co.vex neural networks(ICNN)to identify the chiller model to co.struct a co.vex mapping between co.trol variables and the objective function,which enables the NN-based OCL as a co.vex optimization problem and apply it to multi-chiller optimization for optimal chiller loading(OCL).Approximation performances are evaluated through a four-model co.parison based on an experimental data set,and the statistical results show that,on the premise of retaining prior co.vexities,the proposed model depicts excellent approximation power for the data set,especially the unseen data.Finally,the ICNN model is applied to a typical OCL problem for a multi-chiller system and co.bined with three types of optimization strategies.co.pared with co.ventional and meta-heuristic methods,the numerical results suggest that the gradient-based BFGS algorithm provides better energy-saving ratios facing co.secutive co.ling load inputs and an impressive co.vergence speed.

A trigger system is typically employed in active seismic testing to trigger and synchronize multichannel surface wave data acquisition.The effect of the trigger system on the dispersion image of surface waves is empirically known to be negligible,however,theoretical explanation regarding the effect of the trigger system is insufficient.This study systematically examines the theory for surface wave dispersion analysis and proves that the effect of the trigger system on a dispersion image is negligible via a solid theoretical explanation.Subsequently,based on the new theoretical explanation,an alternative method that uses only the relative phase difference between sensors to extract dispersion characteristics with better co.ceptual clarity is proposed.Two active surface wave testing cases are co.sidered to validate the theory and method.The results indicate that(1)an accurate trigger system is not necessary for surface wave data acquisition,and(2)it is unnecessary to assume that the impact point is the generation point of the surface waves for the experimental dispersion analysis.

Damage to semi-rigid base asphalt pavement is related to improper matching of the pavement structure moduli.This study mainly focused on the modulus matching of structural layers and the development of a pavement structure optimization method.First,the modulus loss of existing pavement structures was analysed,and a three-dimensional finite element model was established based on the existing pavement.Seco.d,the influence of the modulus of each structural layer on the mechanical response indicators and fatigue life was analysed.Based on the results,a pavement structure design method using the smoothness of the stress-strain curve as the modulus matching criterion of the structural layers was proposed.And it was found that a strain co.vex point was present and that the stress mutation between the structural layers was significant when the modulus matching of the pavement structure was reasonable.Further,the evaluation indicators were divided into two groups,namely,mechanical indicators and fatigue life indicators.And it was proposed an optimized pavement structure design method based on modulus matching and multi-indicator range analysis.Finally,the optimal modulus co.bination of pavement structure was determined by this method.The research systematically studied the influence of the modulus of each structural layer on the mechanical response and fatigue life of the pavement,and proposed the co.cept and specific executive criteria of modulus matching for the first time.Meanwhile,it also provided an effective optimization method for pavement structure design.

Modern scintillator-based radiation detectors require silico. photomultipliers(Si PMs)with photon detection efficiency higher than 40%at 420 nm,possibly extended to the vacuum ultraviolet(VUV)region,single-photon time resolution(SPTR)co.nt rate(DCR)co.centrations at low CMOS scales,deep-level carrier generation in shallow trench isolation fabrication,and power co.sumption,among others.The advances at 350 and 110 nm CMOS nodes are benchmarked against available Si PMs obtained in CMOS and co.mercial customized technologies.The co.cept of digital multithreshold Si PMs with a single microcell readout is finally reported,proposing a possible direction toward fully digital scintillator-based radiation detectors.

Lithium-aluminum layered double hydroxides(LiAl-LDH)have been be successfully applied in co.mercial-scale for lithium extraction from salt lake brine,however,further advancement of their applications is hampered by suboptimal Li^(+)adsorption performance and ambiguous extraction process.Herein,a doping engineering strategy was developed to fabricate novel Zn^(2+)-doped LiAl-LDH(LiZnAl-LDH)with remarkable higher Li^(+)adsorption capacity(13.4 mg/g)and selectivity(separation factors of 213,834,171 for Li^(+)/K^(+),Li^(+)/Na^(+),Li^(+)/Mg^(2+),respectively),as well as lossless reusability in Luobupo brine co.pared to the pristine LiAl-LDH.Further,co.bining experiments and simulation calculations,it was revealed that the specific surface area,hydrophilic,and surface attraction for Li^(+)of LiZnAl-LDH were significantly improved,reducing the adsorption energy(Ead)and Gibbs free energy(ΔG),thus facilitating the transfer of Li^(+)from brine into interface followed by insertion into voids.Importantly,the intrinsic oxygen vacancies derived from Zn-doping depressed the diffusion energy barrier of Li^(+),which accelerated the diffusion process of Li^(+)in the internal bulk of LiZnAl-LDH.This work provides a general strategy to overco.e the existing limitations of Li^(+)reco.ery and deepens the understanding of Li^(+)extraction on LiAl-LDH.

The effects of different co.tents of a MgO expansive agent and phosphorus slag on the mechanical properties,shrinkage behavior,and the heat of hydration of co.crete were studied.The slump flow,setting time,dry shrinkage,and hydration heat were used as sensitive parameters to assess the response of the co.sidered specimens.As shown by the results,in general,with an increase in the phosphorus slag co.tent,the hydration heat of co.crete decreases for all ages,but the early strength displays a downward trend and the dry shrinkage rate increases.The 90-d strength and dry shrinkage of co.crete co.ld be improved with a phosphorus residue co.tent between 0%-20%,with the best performances in terms of mechanical properties and shrinkage characteristics being achieved for a co.tent of 20 kg/m^(3).On the basis of these results,it can be co.cluded that appropriate amounts of phosphorus slag and MgO expansive agent can be used to improve the co.pressive strength of co.crete in the later stage by reducing the hydration heat and dry shrinkage rate,respectively.

A review on adhesion behavior of chip seal pavement and aggregate

Chip seal is widely used for preventive maintenance to mitigate pavement deterioration,but it is prone to aggregate loss during pavement service. To further promote the development and application of chip seals in road engineering in China, the research progress of the adhesion behavior of aggregate and binder in chip seals was reviewed in this paper,focusing on the adhesion mechanism of emulsified asphalt and alkaline aggregate. The Influencing factors and evaluation methodology of chip seals' aggregate adhesion behavior were also discussed. The results demonstrate that the adhesion process between emulsified asphalt and alkaline aggregate is divided into three processes including infiltration,demulsification, and cluster, which is more co.plicated when co.pared to hot asphalt.When designing a chip seal, not only the characteristics of single material should be paid attention to, but also the co.bination of binder and aggregate matters a lot. To form good adhesion between aggregate and asphalt binder, various influencing factors such as material selection, design method, and co.struction technical index should be co.sidered co.prehensively in the whole design, co.struction, and operation process. Three methods for evaluating adhesion behavior are summarized, including macrosco.ic adhesion performance tests, image analysis technology, and model prediction. It is not objective to evaluate the aggregate adhesion behavior of chip seal only by a single evaluation method.A co.prehensive evaluation based on the micro-macro multi-scale method should be co.sidered in the future.

Due to the problems of low welding efficiency, large heat-affected zone, and poor welding quality in the process of welding thin-walled titanium tubes by argon arc welding, there are few studies on the use of high-frequency induction welding(HFIW) of thin-walled titanium alloy tubes. The evolution law of weld microstructure and mechanical properties of the thin-walled titanium tube needs to be further studied because of rapid welding speed and the small heat-affected zone of HFIW. Therefore, a novel manufacturing method via high-frequency induction welding is proposed in this paper to solve the existing problems. With an industrial-grade titanium TA2 tube(wall's thickness is 0.5 mm) as the research object, a co.parative study is co.ducted in this research to examine the morphology, microstructure, microhardness, and tensile characteristics of welded joints at different welding power. The findings demonstrated a significant efficacy of HFIW in resolving these challenges. The mechanical properties and microstructue of heat-affected zone(HAZ) were characterized. The lowest hardness is measured at202 HV, while the base material was reco.ded as 184 HV, when the welding speed of HFIW is set at 50 m/min.Meanwhile, the heat-affected zone has the highest hardness at 224 HV, a tensile strength of 446.8 MPa and a postfracture elongation of 16%. The results showed that HFIW can not only greatly improve the welding efficiency,significantly improve the microstructure of weld joint and HAZ, and improve the mechanical properties of thinwalled titanium pipe, but also provide a highly feasible welding method for welding ultra-thin-walled pipes.

Sorghum(Sorghum bico.or(L.)Moench)is a world cereal crop used in China for producing Baijiu,a distilled spirit.We report a telomere-to-telomere genome assembly of the Baijiu cultivar Hongyingzi,HYZ-T2T,using ultralong reads.The 10 chromosome pairs co.tained 33,462 genes,of which 93%were functionally annotated.The 20 telomeres and 10 centromeric regions on the HYZ-T2T chromosomes were predicted and two co.secutive large inversions on chromosome 2 were characterized.A 65-gene reco.struction of the metabolic pathway of tannins,the flavor substances in Baijiu,was performed and may advance the breeding of sorghum cultivars for Baijiu production.

Red mud(RM)is a low-activity industrial solid waste,and its utilization as a resource is currently a hot topic.In this study,the micro characteristics of red mud at different calcination temperatures were analyzed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microsco.y.The performance of calcined red mud was determined through mortar strength tests.Results indicate that high-temperature calcination can change the mineral co.position and microstructure of red mud,and increase the surface roughness and specific surface area.At the optimal temperature of 700°C,the addition of calcined red mud still leads to a decrease in mortar strength,but its activity index and flexural co.fficient increase by 16.2%and 11.9%with respect to uncalcined red mud,reaching values of 0.826 and 0.974,respectively.co.pared with the co.trol group,the synergistic activation of calcined red mud with slag can increase the co.pressive and flexural strength of the mortar by 12.9%and 1.5%,reaching 8.7 and 62.4 MPa,respectively.co.respondingly,the activity index and flexural co.fficient of the calcined RM and GGBS(Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag)mixtures also increase to 1.015 and 1.130,respectively.
