Blast disruption using 3D grids/perforated plates for vehicle protection

In this work, blast disruption and mitigation using 3D grids/perforated plates were tested for underbelly and side protection of vehicles. Two vehicle simulants were used: a small-scale one for side vehicle protection assessment and a true-to-scale simulant for underbelly protection testing. The deformation of target plates was assessed. These were either unprotected or protected by three different types of disruptors. The first disruptor was made of a sandwich structure of two perforated plates filled with a thin aluminum structure allowing the air to pass through. The two other disruptors were made of pieces of cast metallic foam. Two different kinds of foams were used: one with large cells and the second one with small cells. Beforehand, the mitigation efficiency of the disruptors was evaluated using an explosivedriven shock tube(EDST). The experiments showed that blast disruption/mitigation by 3D grid/perforated plate structures was not suitable for vehicle side protection. However, 3D grids/perforated structures proved to be relatively effective for underbelly protection compared to an equivalent mass of steel.

Between 2.6 and 3.8 million veterans served in Vietnam while the US military dispersed Agent Orange(AO),although the exact number of exposed individuals is *** Orange,an herbicide,is a known risk factor for various cancers,including sarcoma and leukemia,but less is known about its link with prostate cancer(PC).Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy in men and the fifth most common cause of cancer-related death in men *** 2023,approximately 288,300 patients will be given a diagnosis of PC,and an estimated 34,700 fatalities will occur in the United ***,whether the pathologic characteristics of PC among those exposed to AO differ from those in the general population remains *** review synthesizes the literature regarding the impact of AO exposure on PC incidence and disease course.A comprehensive PubMed literature search of articles published beginning in 1950 was performed using the primary search terms“Agent Orange,”“TCDD,”and“tetrachlorodibenzodioxin”and the secondary search terms“prostate cancer”or“prostate neoplasm.”The search was limited to studies that focused on human participants and were published in *** authors thoroughly reviewed the retrieved articles for relevancy to the study aims:discussion of PC diagnosis,prognosis,or management among patients exposed to *** 108 studies identified in our search,13 were included in this systematic *** within studies concerning AO exposure with relation to PC incidence,age at diagnosis or treatment initiation,and PC severity seemed to be mixed and generally ***,the literature seems to indicate that there are no significant differences in survivorship between exposed and unexposed veterans who are given a diagnosis of *** these heterogeneous outcomes,the evidence does not encourage a significantly different approach to the diagnosis and management of PC for veterans exposed to *** shouldmake case-by-case decision

Understanding lattice deformations is crucial in determining the properties of nanomaterials,which can become more prominent in future applications ranging from energy harvesting to electronic ***,it remains challenging to reveal unexpected deformations that crucially affect material properties across a large sample ***,we demonstrate a rapid and semi-automated unsupervised machine learning approach to uncover lattice deformations in *** method utilizes divisive hierarchical clustering to automatically unveil multi-scale deformations in the entire sample flake from the diffraction data using four-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy(4D-STEM).Our approach overcomes the current barriers of large 4D data analysis without a priori knowledge of the *** this purely data-driven analysis,we have uncovered different types of material deformations,such as strain,lattice distortion,bending contour,etc.,which can significantly impact the band structure and subsequent performance of nanomaterials-based *** envision that this data-driven procedure will provide insight into materials’intrinsic structures and accelerate the discovery of materials.

In our study we collected the teleseismic record of 31 broadband stations and 9 PASSCAL stations in West Yunnan, as well as extracted more than a million receiver functions. Using the waveform model and stacking techniques, we calculated the earth crust thicknesses and Vp/Vs ratios below the stations and obtained 35 valid data points. At the same time, we evenly stacked the receiver functions at the same station and superimposed the two profiles＇ cross sections of the main tectonic units. The results show a clear difference between the crust thicknesses of different tectonic units. Because of the magma underplatting and delimanition of the lower crust in the role of deep process, the West Yunnan＇s crust can be divided two kinds-mafic-ultramafic and feldspathic crusts. The research also shows that the mafic-ultramafic crust corresponds to a good background of mineralization. The delamination of the lower crust is one of the leading causes for moderate to strong earthquake prone in central Yunnan. The thinner crust and high velocity ratio as well as the multimodal structure of Ps in the Tengchong volcanic area confirms existence of a deep process of the strong magma underplating. Due to the basic crust structure and nature, it is believed that the Honghe fault is a main suture of the Gondwana and Eurasia continents.

Cyprinidae is the biggest family of freshwater fish, but the phylogenetic relationships among its higher-level taxa are not yet fully resolved. In this study, we used the nuclear recombination activating gene 2 and the mitochondrial 16S ribosomal RNA and cytochrome b genes to reconstruct cyprinid phylogeny. Our aims were to （i） demonstrate the effects of partitioned phylo- genetic analyses on phylogeny reconstruction of cyprinid fishes; （ii） provide new insights into the phylogeny of cyprinids. Our study indicated that unpartitioned strategy was optimal for our analyses; partitioned analyses did not provide better-resolved or -supported estimates of cyprinid phylogeny. Bayesian analyses support the following relationships among the major mono- phyletic groups within Cyprinidae：（Cyprininae, Labeoninae）, （（Acheilognathinae, （（Leuciscinae, Tincinae）, Gobioninae））, Xenocyprirlinae）. The placement of Danioninae was poorly resolved. Estimates of divergence dates within the family showed that radiation of the major cyprinid groups occurred during the Late Oligocene through the Late Miocene. Our phylogenetic analyses improved our understanding of the evolutionary history of this important fish family.

Many carnivores require large ranges to meet their ecological and energetic needs;however,anthropogenic changes threaten species and their *** traps have been used to effectively collect data on carnivores in a variety of habitat types;however,a single survey effort is typically limited to species that have similar body size,habitat use and movement patterns,and individual identification of animals is not always pos*** evaluated whether scat detection dogs could effectively survey for 4 wide-ranging felids that vary in these characteristics:jaguars(Panthera onca),pumas(Puma concolor),ocelots(Leopardus pardalis)and oncillas(Leopardus tigrinus).From June to October 2009 and May to August 2011,a detection dog-handler team detected 588 scats,from which 176 unique genotypes were *** assigned sex to 84.7%of the genotyped scats and identified 55 individuals multiple *** effectiveness of these noninvasive techniques(detection dogs and genetic analyses of scat)not only opens the door for additional studies in areas that were previously difficult or impossible with standard survey techniques,but also provides conservationists with a set of tools that overcome some of the limitations associated with the use of camera traps alone.
