Machine learning-based multi-objective optimization and thermal assessment of supercritical CO_(2) Rankine cycles for gas turbine waste heat recovery

Technologies for utilizing waste heat for power generation have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their potential to enhance energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas *** research focuses on the comparative and optimization analysis of three supercritical carbon dioxide(sCO_(2))Rankine cycles(simple,cascade,and split)for gas turbine waste heat *** study begins with parametric analysis,investigating the significant effects of key variables,including turbine inlet temperature,condenser inlet temperature,and pinch point temperature,on the thermal performance of advanced sCO_(2) power *** identify the most efficient cycle configuration,a multi-objective optimization approach is *** approach combines a Genetic Algorithm with machine learning regression models(Random Forest,XGBoost,Artificial Neural Network,Ridge Regression,and K-Nearest Neighbors)to predict cycle performance using a dataset extracted from cycle *** decision-making process for determining the optimal cycle configuration is facilitated by the TOPSiS(technique for order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution)*** study's major findings reveal that the split cycle outperforms the simple and cascade configurations in terms of power generation across various operating *** optimized split cycle not only demonstrates superior power output but also exhibits enhanced net power output,heat recovery,system and exergy efficiency of 7.99 MW,76.17%,26.86%and 57.96%,respectively,making it a promising choice for waste heat recovery *** research has the potential to contribute to the advancement and widespread adoption of waste heat recovery in energy technologies boosting system efficiency and economic *** provides a new perspective for future research,contributing to the improvement of energy generation infrastructure.

The present study is focused on multi-objective performance optimization&thermodynamic analysis from the perspectives of energy and exergy for Recompression,Partial Cooling&Main Compression intercooling supercritical CO_(2)(sCO_(2))Brayton cycles for concentrated solar power(CSP)applications using machine learning *** novelty of this work lies in the integration of artificial neural networks(ANN)and genetic algorithms(GA)for optimizing the performance of advanced sCO_(2)power cycles considering climatic variation,which has significant implications for both the scientific community and engineering applications in the renewable energy *** methodology employed includes thermodynamic analysis based on energy,exergy&environmental factors including system performance *** system is modelled for net power production of 15 MW thermal output utilizing equations for the energy and exergy balance for each ***,thermodynamic model extracted dataset used for prediction&evaluation of Random Forest,XGBoost,KNN,AdaBoost,ANN and LightGBM ***,considering climate conditions,multi-objective optimization is carried out for the CSP integrated sCO_(2)Power cycle for optimal power output,exergy destruction,thermal and exergetic *** algorithm and TOPSiS(technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution),multi-objective decision-making tool,were used to determine the optimum operating *** major findings of this work reveal significant improvements in the performance of the advanced sCO_(2)cycle by 1.68%and 7.87%compared to conventional recompression and partial cooling cycle,*** research could advance renewable energy technologies,particularly concentrated solar power,by improving power cycle designs to increase system efficiency and economic *** advanced supercritical CO_(2)power cycles in concentrated solar power plants might increase renewable energy use

Protective benefits of HDPE board sand fences in an environment with variable wind directions on Gobi surfaces:wind tunnel study

The Golmud-Korla Railway in the Gobi area faces operational challenges due to sand hazards,caused by strong and variable *** study addresses these challenges by conducting wind tunnel tests to evaluate the protective benefits of High Density Polyethylene(HDPE)board sand fences,focusing on their orientation relative to various wind directions(referred to as'wind angle').This study found that the size of the low-velocity zone on the leeward side of the sand fences(LSF)expanded with an increase in the wind angle(WA).At 1H(the height of the sand fence)and 2H positions on the LSF,the wind speed profiles(WSP)exhibited a segmented logarithmic growth,constrained by Z=H at varying *** efficacy of the sand fence in obstructing airflow escalated as WA *** size of the WA has a significant impact on the protective efficiency of HDPE board sand ***,compared to typical sandy surfaces,the rate of sand transport across the Gobi surface diminishes more slowly with height,attributed to the gravel's rebound *** phenomenon allows some sand particles to bypass the fences,rendering them less effective at blocking wind and trapping sand than in sandy *** paper offers scientific evidence supporting the practical use and enhancement of HDPE board sand fences in varied wind conditions.

Evaluation of a hepatic biomarker of nutritional imbalance in juvenile red drum(Sciaenops ocellatus) fed 60% soybean meal-based diets using NMR-based metabolomics

A 12-week feeding trial with juvenile red drum(Sciaenops ocellatus) fed high-soybean meal(SBM) diets was conducted to investigate a putative biomarker of nutritional imbalance, N-formimino-L-glutamate(FiGLU). Three fishmeal-free, 60% SBM pelleted diets(named B12, Fol, and Met, respectively) were tested to evaluate the effects on growth performance and tissue metabolite profiles of supplementation of vitamin B12(0.012 mg/kg), folate(10 mg/kg), methionine(1 g/kg) respectively, above basal supplementation levels. A fourth SBM-based diet(named B12/Fol/Met) was formulated with a combination of B12, folate, and methionine to attain the above-mentioned target concentrations. A fifth 60% SBM diet(named FWS) with methionine supplementation(1 g/kg above basal supplementation levels), enriched with taurine, lysine and threonine as well as minerals, was also tested. This diet contained formulation targets and additives which have allowed for replacing fishmeal with plant proteins in rainbow trout feeds. Control diets included a fishmeal-based diet(named FM), an unsupplemented basal 60% SBM diet(named SBM60), and a “natural” diet(named N) made up of equal parts of fish(cigar minnows), squid and shrimp as a positive reference for growth performance. Formulated feeds contained approximately 37% total crude protein, approximately 14% total crude lipid and were energetically balanced. Standard growth performance metrics were measured, and tissues(liver, muscle) were collected at week 12 to evaluate diet-induced metabolic changes using nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)-based *** results show that the FWS diet outperformed all other SBM diets and the FM diet under all performance metrics(PiGLU was not detected in fish fed the N diet but was detected in those fed the SBM diets and the FM diet. Protective benefit of folded linear HDPE board sand fences along the Golmud-Korla Railway,China:Field observation and wind tunnel study

The Milan Gobi area of the Golmud-Korla Railway in northwest China is located in the lower dispersal area of the mountain pass and has strong winds with evident double wind direction *** study introduced a novel sand fence deployment technique,termed‘folded linear deployment',designed to position the sand fence orthogonally to the two predominant wind directions for optimal *** study used wind tunnel and field tests to evaluate the wind and sand flow characteristics,as well as the windproof and sandresistant performance of folded linear HDPE(Highdensity polyethylene)board sand *** results suggest that the airflow around the fence creates clear zoning *** deceleration area on the BSF(backwind side of the sand fence)is much larger than that on the DSF(downwind side of the sand fence).Thus,sand particles are primarily deposited on the *** different wind speeds,the airflow at 2 and 5 h on the DSF is not *** WSP(wind speed profile)presents a logarithmic *** airflow is disturbed at 1-20 h on the BSF,and the WSP gradually deviates from the logarithmic ***,as the airflow moves away from the fence,the WSP gradually approaches a logarithmic ***,the WPE(windproof efficiency)and SRE(sand-resistant efficiency)of the sand fence exceed 80%.in addition,the results of wind tunnel tests are compared with those of field *** overall dispersion is good,and the best dispersion is found at z/H=2.00,indicating good agreement between the two test *** study provides a scientific basis for the design of sand hazard control measures,similar to the railway project in the Gobi Gale area.
