This scoping review analyzes the research gaps of three diseases:schistosomiasis japonica,malaria and *** on available data in the ***,we highlight the gaps between control capacity and prevalence levels,and between diagnostic/drug development and population need for treatment at different stages of the national control *** reviewing the literature from 848 original studies and consultations with experts in the field,the gaps were identified as ***,the malaria research gaps include(i)deficiency of active testing in the public community and no appropriate technique to evaluate elimination,(ii)lack of sensitive diagnostic tools for asymptomatic patients,(iii)lack of safe drugs for mass ***,gaps in research of schistosomiasis include(i)incongruent policy in the implementation of integrated control strategy for schistosomiasis,(ii)lack of effective tools for Oncomelania *** control,(iii)lack of a more sensitive and cheaper diagnostic test for large population samples,(iv)lack of new drugs in addition to ***,gaps in research of echinococcosis include(i)low capacity in field epidemiology studies,(ii)lack of sanitation improvement studies in epidemic areas,(iii)lack of a sensitivity test for early diagnosis,(iv)lack of more effective drugs for short-term *** believe these three diseases can eventually be eliminated in China's Mainland if all the research gaps are abridged in a short period of time.

Background:An"integrated control"strategy has been implemented within seven provinces at highest risk for schistosomiasis along Yangtze River in Peoples'Republic of China(***)since *** O ncom elania hupensis is the only intermediate host of the blood fluke(Schistosom a japonicum),controlling the distribution of snails is considered an essential and effeaive way to reduce the risk of schistosomiasis *** study aimed to determine the snail area burden and annual trend among provinces with potential risk for schistosomiasis along the Yangtze River,above and below the Three Gorges Dam(TGD).Methods:This retrospective study utilized data previously collected from the National Parasitic diseases control Information Management System(NPDCIMS)on annual snail surveys from 2009 to *** statistics were performed for analyzing the snail burden by provinces,counties,type of environmental location and year,and mapping was conducted to present the snails ***:From 2009 to 2017,the total snail infested area decreased by 4.22%,from 372253 hm^2 to 356553 hm^2 within the seven high risk *** majority of snails were found in the marshland and lake regions,outside of control *** total snail burden trend remained relatively stable in upstream regions above the TGD from 2010 to 2015,while the trend decreased within downstream regions during this *** 2016 and 2017,the total snail burden trend increased in both upstream and downstream provinces,however,upstream saw a larger *** 2009 to 2017,there were a total of 5990 hm^2 of newly developed snail areas in the seven study provinces and the majority were concentrated in regions below the TGD,accounting for 5610 hm^2(93.70%).Conclusions:There has been a decline in total snail counts from 2009 to ***,new snail breeding areas were formed mainly within provinces downstream the TGD due to spread of snails,indicated that the oncomelanid snail would be d

Background:Snail intermediate hosts play active roles in the transmission of snail-borne trematode infections in Africa.A good knowledge of snail-borne diseases epidemiology particularly snail intermediate host populations would provide the necessary impetus to complementing existing control *** body:This review highlights the importance of molecular approaches in differentiating snail hosts population structure and the need to provide adequate information on snail host populations by updating snail hosts genome database for Africa,in order to equip different stakeholders with adequate information on the ecology of snail intermediate hosts and their roles in the transmission of different ***,we identify the gaps and areas where there is need for urgent intervention to facilitate effective integrated control of schistosomiasis and other snail-borne trematode ***:Prioritizing snail studies,especially snail differentiation using molecular tools will boost disease surveillance and also enhance efficient schistosomaisis control programme in Africa.

Background: With the promotion of national control programs on parasitic and tropical diseases in China,the National Institute of Parasitic diseases(NIPD),Chinese Center for disease control and Prevention has gained significant experience in the global health arena through international cooperation over the last seven decades allowing a multilateral impact in the elimination of major endemic ***:: The achievements of NIPD since 1950 has been analyzed with emphasis on the various stages that started with research and control of the endemic parasitic and other tropical diseases at the national level and progressed via international cooperation into a global ***: The major achievements contributed by NIPD consist of(i)improving technical capability;(ii)promoting control and elimination of parasitic and tropical diseases;(iii)participating in global health governance and cooperation;and(iv)developing a cooperation model for technical assistance and global public health *** is expected that NIPD’s experience of international cooperation will be essential for the dissemination of China's successful experience in global health governance,emergency response and development,with focus on malaria and neglected tropical diseases such as schistosomiasis,soil-borne and food-borne helminthiases and ***: NIPD’s new tasks will not only continue to promote national control of endemic parasitic infections and disease elimination programs in China,but also play a leading role in global health and disease elimination programs in the future.

Background:Babesiosis is an emerging health risk in several parts of the ***,little is known about the prevalence of Babesia in malaria-endemic *** area along the China-Myanmar border in Yunnan is a main endemic area of malaria in ***,however,human infection with Babesia microti(***)is not recognized in this region,and its profile of co-infection is not yet ***:To understand its profile of co-infections with ***,our investigation was undertaken in the malaria-endemic area along the China-Myanmar border in Yunnan between April 2012 and June *** parasite species,including ***,Plasmodium falciparum(***),***,and ***,were identified among 449 suspected febrile persons detected by nested polymerase chain reaction(PCR)assay based on small subunit ribosomal ribonucleic acid(RNA)genes of *** and Plasmodium ***:Of all the collected samples from febrile patients,mono-infection with ***,***,***,and *** accounted for 1.8%(8/449),9.8%(44/449),2.9%(13/449),and 0.2%(1/449),*** rate of mixed infections of *** with *** or *** are both 0.2%(1/449),and mixed infections of *** and *** accounted for 1.1%(5/449).Conclusions:This report supports the hypothesis that babesiosis caused by *** is emerging along the China-Myanmar border in the Yunnan province,***,but it was ignored because of low parasitemia or mixed infection with Plasmodium *** sensitive and specific diagnosis methods are needed to find the rapid response mechanism of emergency for babesiosis and malaria co-prevalence areas.
