Surveillance on schistosomiasis in five provincial-level administrative divisions of the People's Republic of China in the post-elimination era

Background:The People's Republic of China(***)has made significant progress on schistosomiasis *** the 12 provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs)with schistosomiasis endemic in ***,Guangdong,Shanghai,Fujian,Guangxi and Zhejiang PLADs(following as five PLADs)had successively eliminated schistosomiasis during ***,consolidation of the schistosomiasis elimination in these five PLADs remains *** the current study,we sought to understand the epidemic situation in these post-elimination areas and their surveillance capabilities on ***:Annual data reflecting the interventions and surveillance on human beings,cattle and snails based on county level from 2005 to 2016 were collected through the national schistosomiasis reporting system and the data were analyzed to understand the epidemic status of schistosomiasis in the five PLADs.A standardized score sheet was designed to assess the surveillance capacity for schistosomiasis of selected disease control agencies in five PLADs and ten *** on surveillance capacity including schistosomiasis diagnostic skills,identification of snails'living and infection status and knowledge about schistosomiasis and its control were *** analysis was used to analyze the epidemic status and evaluation results on surveillance ***:The assessments showed that no local cases in humans and cattle or infected snail were found in these five PLADs since ***,from 2005 to 2016,a total of 221 imported cases were detected in Zhejiang,Shanghai and Fujian,and 11.98 hm^2 of new snail habitats were found in Zhejiang,Shanghai and *** addition,snail infestation reoccurred in 247.55 hm^2 of former snail habitats since *** the surveillance capacity assessment,the accuracy rate of IHA and MHT were 100 and 89.3%,*** participants could judge the living status of snails accurately and 98.1%on the infection status of snai

Implication of Reported Viral Hepatitis Incidence Rate Change in Hubei Province, China, between 2004-2010

This study examined the change of reported incidence rate for viral hepatitis in Hubei province, China, between 2004 to 2010 to provide scientific evidence for viral hepatitis control. Reported viral hepatitis infection cases were queried from centre for disease control of Hubei Province, China. The incidence of viral hepatitis A decreased steadily across the study period. Viral hepatitis B composed 85% of the viral hepatitis cases. When reported incidence rates for chronic hepatitis B increased, the rates of acute and unclassified cases dropped from 2005 to 2010. The reported viral hepatitis B incidence rate for males was around 1.5-2 times higher than for females. The average annual percentage change of reported viral hepatitis B incidence rates was 4%. The same index for viral hepatitis C was 28%. The reported viral hepatitis B incidence rate of people under 20 years old declined over the period. This decrease was mainly attributed to the recent implementation of vaccination plan. Reported incidence rate of viral hepatitis E also rose in those years. Having a better understanding on reported incidence rates of the present surveillance system is important for developing strategies for further prevention of viral hepatitis. In addition, the data showed that a surveillance system that differentiates new and former infected cases will be more effective in providing evidence for disease control.

A field investigation of arboviruses was conducted in Dejiang, Guizhou Province in the summer of 2016. A total of 8,795 mosquitoes, belonging to four species of three genera, and 1,300 midges were collected. The mosquito samples were identified on site according to their morphology, and the pooled samples were ground and centrifuged in the laboratory. The supernatant was incubated with mosquito tissue culture cells(C6/36) and mammalian cells(BHK-21) for virus isolation. The results indicated that 40%(3,540/8,795) were Anopheles sinensis, 30%(2,700/8,795) were Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus, and 29%(2,530/8,795)were Armigeres subbalbeatus. Furthermore, a total of eight virus isolates were obtained, and genome sequencing revealed two Zika viruses(ZIKVs) isolated from Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus and Armigeres subbalbeatus, respectively; three Japanese encephalitis viruses(JEVs) isolated from Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus; two Banna viruses(BAVs) isolated from Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus and Anopheles sinensis, respectively; and one densovirus(DNV) isolated from Culex pipiens *** ZIKVs isolated from the Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus and Armigeres subbalbeatus mosquitoes represent the first ZIKV isolates in China's Mainland. This discovery presents new challenges for the prevention and control of ZIKV in China, and prompts international cooperation on this global issue.

Ambient air pollution and low temperature associated with case fatality of COVID-19: A nationwide retrospective cohort study in China

The evidence for the effects of environmental factors on COVID-19 case fatality remains controversial,and it is crucial to understand the role of preventable environmental factors in driving COVID-19 *** thus conducted a nationwide cohort study to estimate the effects of environmental factors(temperature,particulate matter[PM2.5,PM10],sulfur dioxide[SO2],nitrogen dioxide[NO2],and ozone[O3])on COVID-19 case fatality.A total of 71,808 confirmed COVID-19 cases were identified and followed up for their vital status through April 25,*** to ambient air pollution and temperature were estimated by linking the city-and county-level monitoring data to the residential community of each *** each participant,two windows were defined:the period from symptom onset to diagnosis(exposure window I)and the period from diagnosis date to date of death/recovery or end of the study period(exposure window II).Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate the associations between these environmental factors and COVID-19 case ***-19 case fatality increased in association with environmental factors for the two exposure *** example,each 10 mg/m^(3) increase in PM2.5,PM10,O3,and NO2 in window I was associated with a hazard ratio of 1.11(95%CI 1.09,1.13),1.10(95%CI 1.08,1.13),1.09(95 CI 1.03,1.14),and 1.27(95%CI 1.19,1.35)for COVID-19 fatality,respectively.A significant effect was also observed for low temperature,with a hazard ratio of 1.03(95%CI 1.01,1.04)for COVID-19 case fatality per 1C *** analysis indicated that these effects were stronger in the elderly,as well as in those with mild symptoms and living in Wuhan or ***,the sensitivity analyses also yielded consistent ***-term exposure to ambient air pollution and low temperature during the illness would play a nonnegligible part in causing case fatality due to *** exposures to high concentrations of PM2.5,PM10,O3,SO2,and NO2 and low

Background:One Health has become a global consensus to deal with complex health ***,the pro‑gress of One Health implementation in many countries is still relatively slow,and there is a lack of systematic evalua‑tion *** purpose of this study was to establish an indicator framework for global One Health Intrinsic Drivers index(GOH-IDI)to evaluate human,animal and environmental health development process ***:First,82 studies were deeply analyzed by a grounded theory(GT)method,including open coding,axial coding,and selective coding,to establish a three-level indicator framework,which was composed of three selective codes,19 axial codes,and 79 open ***,through semi-structured interviews with 28 health-related experts,the indicators were further integrated and simplifed according to the inclusion criteria of the ***,the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process combined with the entropy weight method was used to assign weights to the indi‑cators,thus,forming the evaluation indicator framework of human,animal and environmental health development ***:An indicator framework for GOH-IDI was formed consisting of three selective codes,15 axial codes and 61 open *** were six axial codes for“Human Health”,of which“infectious diseases”had the highest weight(19.76%)and“Injuries and Violence”had the lowest weight(11.72%).There were four axial codes for“Animal Health”,of which“Animal Epidemic disease”had the highest weight(39.28%)and“Animal Nutritional Status”had the low‑est weight(11.59%).Five axial codes were set under“Environmental Health”,among which,“Air Quality and Climate Change”had the highest weight(22.63%)and“Hazardous Chemicals”had the lowest weight(17.82%).Conclusions:An indicator framework for GOH-IDI was established in this *** framework were universal,balanced,and scientifc,which hopefully to be a tool for evaluation of the joint development of human,animal and environmental health in diferent reg
