Age and duration of intra-oceanic arc volcanism b.ilt on a suprasub.uction zone type oceanic crust in southern Neotethys,SE Anatolia

The southeastern Anatolia comprises numb.rs of tectono-magmatic]stratJgraphic units such as the metamorphic massifs, the ophiolites, the volcanic arc units and the granitoid rocks. All of them play important role for the late Cretaceous evolution of the southern Neotethys. The spatial and temporal relations of these units suggest the progressive development of coeval magmatism and thrusting during the late Cretaceous northw.rd sub.uction/accretion. Our new.U-Pb.zircon data from the rhyolitic rocks of the w.de-spread volcanic arc unit show.ages of （83.1 ± 2.2）-（74.6 ± 4.4） Ma. Comparison of the ophiolites, the volcanic arc units and the granitoids suggest follow.ng late Cretaceous geological evolution. The ophiolites formed in a suprasub.uction zone （SSZ） setting as a result of northw.rd intra-oceanic sub.uction. A w.de-spread island-arc tholeiitic volcanic unit developed on the top of the SSZ-type crust during 83 75 Ma. Related to regional plate convergence, northw.rd under-thrusting of SSZ-type ophiolites and volcanic arc units w.s initiated b.neath the Tauride platform （Malatya-Keb.n） and follow.d b. the intrusion of I-type calc-alkaline volcanic arc granitoids during 84 82 Ma. New.U-Pb.ages from the arc-related volcanic-sedimentary unit and granitoids indicate that under-thrusting of ophiolites together w.th the arc-related units b.neath the Malatya-Keb.n platform took place soon after the initiation of the volcanic arc on the top of the SSZ- type crust. Then the arc-related volcanic-sedimentary unit continued its development and lasted at - 75 Ma until the deposition of the late Campanian-Maastrichtian shallow.marine limestone. The sub.uction trench eventually collided w.th the b.tlis-Pfitfirge massif giving rise to HP-LT meta- morphism of the b.tlis massif. Although the development of the volcanic arc units and the granitoids w.re coeval at the initial stage of the sub.uction/accretion b.th tectono-magmatic units w.re genetically different from each other.

The Cretaceous Turn of Geological Evolution: Key Evidence from East Asia

this w.rk focuses on one of the critical points of Earth＇s history w.en the Solar System passed through the most distant point of its galactic orb.t. During this event, Earth may have suffered from maximum extension, associated w.th its relative proximity to the Sun at that time, follow.d b. long-term contraction related to its later distancing. This paper is b.sed on generalized data on the Cretaceous evolution of the Earth as a w.ole and of East Asia in particular. The evidence suggests that major geological processes at this time may b. interpreted as transitional changes in the state of Earth. A liquid nature of its core may have reacted to the gravitational and electromagnetic transformations. w.en the cosmic changes took place at 135-120 Ma, more turb.lent flow. in the outer core w.uld have favoured the rise of voluminous magmatic plumes and associated fluid flow.. These w.uld sub.tantially transform the mantle, crust, hydrosphere, b.osphere and atmosphere. In particular, plume-related melting of overlying sub.ucting slab. and low.r continental crust could have initiated numerous adakitic melts that formed the East Asian Adakitic Province. These and associated juvenile events produced numerous metallic ore, coal, gas and oil deposits. The Cretaceous is one of the most significant resource-producing periods.

The East African Orogen involves a collage of Proterozoic microcontinents and arc terranes that b.came w.dged b.tw.en older cratonic b.ocks during the assemb.y of *** Ediacaran-Camb.ian Amb.lavao and Maevarano Suites in Madagascar w.re emplaced during the w.ning orogenic stages and consist of w.akly deformed to undeformed plutonic rocks and dykes of mainly porphyritic granite b.t also gab.ro,diorite and charnockite.U-Pb.geochronological data date emplacement of the Amb.lavao Suite to b.tw.en ca.580 Ma and 540 Ma and the Maevarano Suite to b.tw.en ca.537 Ma and522 *** and trace element concentrations are consistent w.th emplacement in a syn-to postcollisional tectonic setting as A-type(anorogenic) ***(δ^(18)O of 5.27‰-7.45‰) and hafnium(ε(Hf)(t) of-27.8 to-12.3) isotopic data from plutons in the Itremo and Antananarivo Domains are consistent w.th incorporation of an ancient crustal *** primitive δ^(18)O(5.27‰-5.32‰) andε(Hf)(t)(+0.0 to+0.2) isotopic values recorded in samples collected from the Ikalamavony Domain demonstrate the isotopic variation of b.sement sources present in the Malagasy *** Hf isotopic composition of Malagasy zircon are unlike more juvenile Ediacaran-Camb.ian zircon sou rces elsew.ere in the East African Orogen and,as such,Madagascar represents a distinct and identifiab.e detrital zircon source region in Phanerozoic sedimentary provenance *** together,these data indicate that high-T crustal anatexis,crustal assimilation and interaction of crustal material w.th mantle-derived melts w.re the processes operating during magma *** magmatism w.s coeval w.th polyphase deformation throughout Madagascar during the amalgamation of Gondw.na and magmatism is interpreted to reflect lithospheric delamination of an extensive orogenic plateau.

Granulitic lunar meteorites offer rare insights into the timing and nature of igneous,metamorphic and impact processes in the lunar *** dating the different events recorded b. these materials is very challenging,how.ver,due to low.trace element ab.ndances (***,Nd,Lu,Hf),rare micrometerscale U-Th-b.aring accessory minerals,and disturb.d Ar-Ar systematics follow.ng a multi-stage history of shock and thermal *** w. report on micro-b.ddeleyite grains in granulitic mafic b.eccia Nw. 3163 for the first time and show.that targeted microstructural analysis (electron b.ckscatter diffraction) and nanoscale geochronology (atom prob. tomography) can overcome these b.rriers to lunar chronology.A tw.nned (-90°/) b.ddeleyite domain yields a 232Th/208Pb.age of 4328 ± 309 Ma,w.ich overlaps w.th a rob.st secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) 207Pb.206Pb.age of 4308± 18.6 Ma and is interpreted here as the crystallization age for the igneous protolith of Nw. 3163.A second microstructural domain,w.dth,contains patchy overprinting b.ddeleyite and yields a Th-Pb.age of 2175± 143 Ma,interpreted as dating the last sub.tantial impact event to affect the *** finding demonstrates the potential of comb.ning microstructural characterization w.th nanoscale geochronology w.en resolving complex P-T-t histories in planetary materials,here yielding the oldest measured crystallization age for components of lunar granulite Nw. 3163 and placing further constraints on the formation and evolution of lunar crust.
