In recent years, tissue scaffolds have emerged as a new therapeutic method for bone and cartilage regeneration, with sponge scaffolds gaining increasing attention. Sponge scaffolds possess several favorable characteristics, including appropriate biodegradability, excellent biocompatibility, good processability, powerful osteogenic ability, a unique porous structure, and adjustable pore size and connectivity. These attributes make sponge scaffolds a promising option for bone and cartilage regeneration. However, to date, there is a lack of comprehensive reviews summarizing the use of sponge scaffolds in this field. In this review, our objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of the research progress and development trends of sponge scaffolds. Firstly, we introduce the various materials used for sponge scaffolds. Secondly, we summarize the different preparation methods employed for creating sponge scaffolds. Subsequently, we discuss the functional additives that can be incorporated into the scaffolds. Finally, we present some special structures that can be achieved in sponge scaffolds. Our aim is for this review to offer valuable insights and serve as a comprehensive resource for the design of sponge scaffolds in cartilage and bone regeneration.

Studying Rydberg microwave frequency comb (MFC) spectroscopy helps increase the working bandwidth of the Rydberg receiver. This Letter demonstrates off-resonant Rydberg MFC spectroscopy in a meta-waveguide-coupled Rydberg atomic system. An off-resonant MFC field couples with the Rydberg atoms through a meta-waveguide. The system can receive the microwave field in the working band from 0.5 GHz to 13.5 GHz, and the MFC spectroscopy covers a span of 36 MHz at three different arbitrarily-chosen frequencies of 2 GHz, 3 GHz, and 5.8 GHz. The MFC spectrum that covers a wide range of 125 MHz is also verified. This work is significant for tunable wide-band instant microwave signal detection in the Rydberg atomic system, which is useful in microwave frequency metrology, communication, and radar.

In this Letter, an autofocusing method in optical scanning holography (OSH) system is proposed. By introducing Lissajous scanning into multiple signal classification (MUSIC) method in time-reversal (TR) OSH, the axial locations of the targets can be retrieved with better resolution and the peak prominence increases from 0.21 to 0.34. The feasibility of this method is confirmed by simulation as well as experiment.

Use of cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 2 NPs) to optimize management of resistant microorganisms has received increasing attention due to non-specific activity of inorganic antibacterial agents. Understanding the mechanism of action is essential to elucidating the antibacterial activity of CeO2 2 NPs against bacteria. Therefore, this review aims to summarize the antibacterial mechanisms of CeO2 2 NPs and correlate the structural and physicochemical properties of CeO2 2 NPs to their antibacterial activity. we further summarize the strategies for the improvement of the antibacterial performance of CeO2 2 NPs and provide our opinions for future challenges as a conclusion. High purity and ultrafine DAAF (u-DAAF) is an emerging insensitive charge in initiators. Although there are many ways to obtain u-DAAF, developing a preparation method with stable operation, accurate control, good quality consistency, equipment miniaturization, and minimum manpower is an inevitable requirement to adapt to the current social technology development trend. Here reported is the microfluidic preparation of u-DAAF with tunable particle size by a passive swirling microreactor. Under the guidance of recrystallization growth kinetics and mixing behavior of fluids in the swirling microreactor, the key parameters (liquid flow rate, explosive concentration and crystallization temperature) were screened and optimized through screening experiments. Under the condition that no surfactant is added and only experimental parameters are controlled, the particle size of recrystallized DAAF can be adjusted from 98 nm to 785 nm, and the corresponding specific surface area is 8.45 m(2)g(-1) to 1.33 m(2)g(-1). In addition, the preparation method has good batch stability, high yield (90.8%-92.6%) and high purity (99.0%-99.4%), indicating a high practical application potential. Electric explosion derived flyer initiation tests demonstrate that the u-DAAF shows an initiation sensitivity much lower than that of the raw DAAF, and comparable to that of the refined DAAF by conventional spraying crystallization method. This study provides an efficient method to fabricate u-DAAF with narrow particle size distribution and high reproducibility as well as a theoretical reference for fabrication of other ultrafine explosives. Titanium (Ti) dental scaffolds are widely used in dental prosthetics due to their excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility. However, conventional Ti scaffolds manufactured through machining often do not fit perfectly with the bone defect site. Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technology enables the personalised manufacturing of custom-made Ti scaffolds. A custom-made Ti scaffold was prepared using LPBF and its surface roughness was improved through chemical polishing. To enhance the surface roughness, a nitric acid mixed solution with a specific composition of HF: HNO3:C3H6O3 = 2:2:3 was used. The polishing mechanism was investigated by adjusting the F/Ti ratio to control the formation and dissolution of the oxide film. As a result, the surface of the Ti scaffold after polishing exhibited a smooth and flat appearance compared to the LPBF part, with a reduced surface roughness (Ra) of 1.23 +/- 0.19 mu m. The custom-made Ti scaffold also demonstrated favourable mechanical properties, with a bending strength of 335.18 +/- 33.62 MPa and stiffness of 2.13 +/- 0.21 GPa. Furthermore, in vitro cell tests confirmed the excellent biocompatibility of the custom-made Ti scaffold. The authors present a feasible strategy for the further clinical application of custom-made Ti scaffolds, offering enhanced surface properties and addressing the limitations of conventional machining methods.

Shaped charge liner (SCL) has been extensively applied in oil recovery and defense industries. Achieving superior penetration capability through optimizing SCL structures presents a substantial challenge due to intricate rate-dependent processes involving detonation-driven liner collapse, high-speed jet stretching, and penetration. This study introduces an innovative optimization strategy for SCL structures that employs jet penetration efficiency as the primary objective function. The strategy combines experimentally validated finite element method with machine learning (FEM-ML). we propose a novel jet penetration efficiency index derived from enhanced cutoff velocity and shape characteristics of the jet via machine learning. This index effectively evaluates the jet penetration performance. Furthermore, a multi-model fusion based on a machine learning optimization method, called XGBOOST-MFO, is put forward to optimize SCL structure over a large input space. The strategy's feasibility is demonstrated through the optimization of copper SCL implemented via the FEM-ML strategy. Finally, this strategy is extended to optimize the structure of the recently emerging CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy conical liners and hemispherical copper liners. In this paper, we construct, analyze, and numerically validate a family of divergence-free virtual elements for Stokes equations with nonlinear damping on polygonal meshes. The virtual element method is H1-conforming and exact divergence-free. By virtue of these properties and the topological degree argument, we rigorously prove the well-posedness of the proposed discrete scheme. The convergence analysis is carried out, which imply that the error estimate for the velocity in energy norm does not explicitly depend on the pressure. Numerical experiments on various polygonal meshes validate the accuracy of the theoretical analysis and the asymptotic pressure robustness of the proposed scheme.

Preparation and characterization of high-reactivity explosive-based nano-boron microspheres

Boron nanoparticles, with their remarkably high gravimetric and volumetric calorific values, emerge as the most promising fuel in energetic fields. However, challenges such as susceptibility to oxidation, high ignition temperature, and low combustion efficiency have constrained their further applications. In this study, we fabricated high explosives based nano-boron microspheres with uniform size using the electrostatic spray method, in which the boron nanoparticles and high explosives (CL-20 or PETN) are closely bonded together by fluorinated polymer (F-2602) and evenly distributed. The results indicated that the microspheres exhibited high sphericity and showed an enhanced antioxidant capability. The addition of high-energy explosives not only reduced the thermal oxidation temperature of nano-boron powder within the microspheres but also significantly enhanced the pressurization rate. Additionally, the microspheres with added high-energy explosives released more energy during the combustion process. Compared to physically mixed samples, electrostatically sprayed microspheres with a uniform microstructure still exhibited higher reactivity. Therefore, the design and synthesis of microspheres with controllable structures using the electrostatic spray method show promising application prospects.
