In this paper we consider a specific model of membrane systems, i. e. membrane systems with attributes. In these systems, the information is placed at the membranes in form of attributes, no objects are considered inside the membranes except for other membranes. The membrane system with attributes evolves according to rules that compute new values for the attributes from the attributes assigned to the membranes involved in the rule. The model of membrane systems with attributes allows us to specify business transactions in a precise way and to simulate different models for such transactions with a suitable tool for membrane systems with attributes.

Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tNGCs). However, the use of tNGCs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tNGC would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tNGCs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tNGCs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tNGCs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tNGCs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tNGCs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tNGCs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tNGCs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. The present paper introduces a new concept for passive turbine tip-leakage control. The basic idea of the method is the connection of the blade leading edge and the blade tip by an internal channel. Due to the difference between the stagnation pressure at the leading edge and the low pressure at the blade tip, a small amount of the working fluid is extracted from the blade passage. At the blade tip, a jet is injected roughly perpendicular to the tip gap flow driven by the blade pressure difference. It is proposed that the jet blocks at least a part of the tip gap flow. Since the tip-leakage losses are proportional to the tip gap mass flow rate, the tip injection results in a reduction of the associated losses. After the introduction of the concept, an analytical model is presented which describes the reduction of the tip gap discharge coefficient due to the tip injection. Furthermore, the analytical model is supported by the results of a preliminary CFD analysis. Finally, the potential of the efficiency improvement by the passive blade tip injection method is reported.

Hypocrea/Trichoderma is a genus of soil-borne or wood-decaying fungi containing members important to mankind as producers of industrial enzymes and biocontrol agents against plant pathogens, but also as opportunistic pathogens of immuno- compromised humans and animals, while others can cause damage to cultivated mushroom. With the recent advent of a reliable, BarCode-aided identification system for all known taxa of Trichoderma and Hypocrea, it became now possible to study some of the biological fundamentals of the diversity in this fungal genus in more detail. In this article, we will therefore review recent progress in (1) the understanding of the geographic distribution of individual taxa; (2) mechanisms of speciation leading to development of mushroom diseases and facultative human mycoses; and (3) the possible correlation of specific traits of secondary metabolism and molecular phylogeny.

The successful application of differential mobility analysis for the characterization and manipulation of nanoparticles at atmospheric pressure has given rise to further development of this technique. The parallel differential mobility analyzer provides the possibility to simultaneously measure a size spec- trum of nanoparticles and select a particular set of nanoparticles with a defined size for collection （as well as enrichment） and further orthogonal analysis （as for example electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy or mass spectrometry）. Performing a high resolution measurement of electrical mobility diameters allows molecular weight determination of species with ultrahigh molecular masses in the mega Dalton range （e.g. protein complexes）. The precise size measurement of the human rhinovirus has confirmed the potential of this technique to analyze even intact infectious human-pathogenic viruses. Moreover, the real-time measurement of nanoparticle occurrence in an urban environment confirms the versatility of the method presented here and its applicability also in other areas of importance.

Background:Increasing urbanization as well as global warming requires an investigation of the infuence of diferent construction methods and ground surfaces on the urban heat island efect(UHI efect).The extent of the infuence of the urban structure,the building materials used and their surfaces on the UHI efect can be signifcantly reduced already in the planning phase using a designated OpenFOAM-based solver“uhiSolver”.Results:In the frst part of this research work,it is shown that inner building details and components can be neglected while still obtaining sufciently accurate *** this purpose,the building model was divided into two layers:a surface layer without mass,where the interaction with radiation takes place,and a component layer,which contains all relevant components and cavities of the building represented with mass-averaged material *** has become apparent that the three parameters—albedo,heat capacity and thermal resistance—which have a decisive infuence on the interaction,have diferent efects on the component temperatures and the surface *** the second part of this research work,dynamic 3D computational fuid dynamics(CFD)simulations are performed with uhiSolver for a residential block in *** the simulation results with measurement data collected on site,it is shown that the simplifed assumption of homogeneous material data for building bodies provides very good results for the validation case ***,the infuence of the greening measures in the courtyard of the residential block on the air temperature is found to be ***,it was observed that due to locally higher radiation density,lower air velocities and higher air humidity,the apparent temperature in the courtyard is sometimes perceived to be higher than in the adjacent streets,despite the lower air ***:Simplifying the modeling process of the uhiSolver software by reducing the model complexity helps to reduce

Integrating Smart Building Energy Data into Smart Grid Applications in the Intelligent Secondary Substations

Automation has arrived in the low voltage grid domain. In the next few years, the secondary substation—at the barriers of medium and low voltage grids—will thus be upgraded to enable novel functions. In this paper, we present various smart grid applications running on such intelligent secondary substations(iSSN) including their interaction with each other. We integrate energy consumption and production data, as well as forecasts, sensed from the smart buildings’ energy management systems(BEMSs) into the operation of the low voltage grid. A suitable framework for those modular applications includes features to initiate their installation, update, removal, the remote operator site, and not requiring staff on-site for such typical reappearing maintenance tasks.
