Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)is a lethal disease,characterized by an intense desmoplastic reaction that compresses blood vessels and limits nutrient *** aggressiveness largely relies on its extraordinary capability to thrive and progress in a challenging tumor *** of the onco-suppressor miR-15a has been extensively documented in ***,we identified the transcription factor Fos-related antigen-2(Fra-2)as a miR-15a target mediating the adaptive mechanism of PDAC to nutrient *** report that the IGF1 signaling pathway was enhanced in nutrient deprived PDAC cells and that Fra-2 and IGF1R were significantly overexpressed in miR-15a downmodulated PDAC ***,we discovered that miR-15a repressed IGF1R expression via Fra-2 *** miR-15a-low context,IGF1R hyperactivated mTOR,modulated the autophagic flux and sustained PDAC growth in nutrient *** a genetic mouse model,Mir15aKO PDAC showed Fra-2 and Igf1r upregulation and mTOR activation in response to diet ***,nutrient restriction improved the efficacy of IGF1R inhibition in a Fra-2 dependent ***,our results point to a crucial role of Fra-2 in the cellular stress response due to nutrient restriction typical of pancreatic cancer and support IGF1R as a promising and vulnerable target in miR-15a downmodulated PDAC.

Humans have infected a wide range of animals with SARS-CoV-2 viruses1-5,but the establishment of a new natural animal reservoir has not been ***,we document that free-ranging white-tailed deer(Odocoileus virginianus)are highly susceptible to infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus,are exposed to a range of viral diversity from humans,and are capable of sustaining transmission in ***-CoV-2 virus was detected by rRT-PCR in more than one-third(129/360,35.8%)of nasal swabs obtained from Odocoileus virginianus in northeast Ohio(USA)during January-March *** in 6 locations were infected with 3 SARS-CoV-2 lineages(B.1.2,B.1.582,B.1.596).The B.1.2 viruses,dominant in humans in Ohio at the time,infected deer in four *** deer-to-deer transmission of B.1.2,B.1.582,and B.1.596 viruses was observed,allowing the virus to acquire amino acid substitutions in the spike protein(including the receptor-binding domain)and ORF1 that are infrequently seen in humans.

For a long time Kenya has desired to access lucrative export markets for her livestock products. Although this desire matches the growing global demand for livestock products and increasing interest in livestock products from Kenya by livestock deficient countries, Kenya has not been able to meet the expressed demand. The reasons for this failure have not been sufficiently documented. This study used the value chain approach to assess and document the factors that limit Kenya＇s export trade in livestock. Questionnaire interviews were undertaken with livestock producers, traders, processors and importers. Producers cited livestock diseases, poor roads, drought, livestock theft and insecurity as the main constraints to livestock supply. Livestock traders mentioned high cost and delays in obtaining movement permits, rent-seeking and disturbance by government officials along the stock routes as some of the constraints. Processors on the other hand mentioned Kenya＇s failure to meet the international sanitary requirements. The only importer interviewed indicated that trade restrictions, Kenya＇s inability to control livestock diseases and distance were the main constraints to increased livestock trade with Kenya. Stakeholders in Kenya＇s livestock export value chain should address these and other constraints in order to revitalize this vital sector.

Objective:This paper discusses methods for improving milk safety in smallholder ***:Analyzing best practices/experiences of selected countries and Ethiopian dairy farming as a case study(household survey and milk testing).Results:The coliform count was slightly higher than European *** value of total bacterial count found was higher than the standard of bacteriological quality of *** Cell count is slightly higher than US standard,but it is in the range of the EU ***,there were other associated challenges facing dairy farmers,including shortage of feed concentrate and water,milk marketing,health of dairy stock,and manure *** better practices were also observed including literacy and dairying experience of smallholder dairy *** this,increased availability of some dairy stakeholders and their efforts would also be an added *** efforts of private veterinarians to engage in provision of drugs and on-call home-treatment for stall-fed cows were good,but this needs to be complemented with laboratory based-diagnostic/clinical and advisory services prevent ***:Improvement of milk safety can be achieved through good management practices by dairy farmers,market incentives,and increased efforts of various stakeholders and the adoption of best *** this regard,a coordinated action involving all stakeholders is needed to implement preventative/control measures,quality management strategies,and appropriate regulation while supporting and building capacity of smallholder dairy producers to minimize risks associated with milk production.

The southern ground-hornbill(SGH)is a cooperatively breeding bird endemic to eastern and southern Africa,but is endangered in its southern distributional *** national conservation restoration program harvests redundant chicks for captive breeding and reintroduction;with sexing and social grouping of the species evaluated by throat-skin coloration,with adult males displaying a completely red color compared to dark blue within the red observed in adult ***,recent findings indicate that dominant and subordinate adult males exhibit patches of blue *** optimize SGH management practices,it is vital to determine the role of red and blue coloration,as well as the possible drivers *** a prerequisite,an enzyme immunoassay for monitoring fecal androgen metabolite(fAM)concentrations in SGH was *** this,fresh fecal samples were collected from 78 SGH,of various demographics and origin,across 12 captive institutions,to determine whether fAM concentrations differ between blue(B),partially blue(sB),and fully red(R)throat-skin colored ***,fAM concentrations were compared between males housed in different social groups of different age and sex *** median fAM concentrations of B,sB,and R adult males did not differ significantly but were considerably higher in B and sB males compared to R *** dynamics within captivity,for example,dominance,played no role as a driver of male gonadal activity or throat skin *** results of the study indicate that androgens and apparent social dynamics are not primary determinants of throat coloration in male SGH.

This study examined concentrations of 15 perfluoroalkyl acids（PFAAs） in tissues from male Mozambique tilapia（Oreochromis mossambicus） collected at Loskop Dam, Mpumalanga,South Africa in 2014 and 2016. Nine of the 15 PFAAs were detected frequently and were included in statistical analysis and included two of the most commonly known PFAAs,perfluorooctanesulfonic acid（PFOS）（median, 41.6 ng/g） and perfluorooctanoic acid（PFOA）（median, 0.0825 ng/g）. Of the tissues measured, plasma（2016 and 2014 median, 22.2 ng/g）contained the highest PFAA burden followed by（in descending order）： liver（median,11.6 ng/g）, kidney（median, 9.04 ng/g）, spleen（median, 5.92 ng/g）, adipose（median, 2.54 ng/g）, and muscle（median, 1.11 ng/g）. Loskop Dam tilapia have been affected by an inflammatory disease of the adipose tissue known as pansteatitis, so this study also aimed to investigate relationships between PFAA tissue concentrations and incidence of pansteatitis or fish health status. Results revealed that healthy tilapia exhibited an overall higher（p-value 〈 0.05） PFAA burden than pansteatitis-affected tilapia across all *** analysis showed that organs previously noted in the literature to contain the highest PFAA concentrations, such as kidney, liver, and plasma, were the organs driving the difference in PFAA burden between the two tilapia groups. Care must be taken in the interpretations we draw from not only the results of our study, but also other PFAA measurements made on populations（human and wildlife alike） under differing health status.

The identification of Chinese medicinal plants was conducted to rely on ampelographic manual assessment by *** recently,machine learning algorithms for pattern recognition have been successfully applied to leaf recognition in other plant *** new tools make the classification of Chinese medicinal plants easier,more efficient and cost *** study showed comparative results between machine learning models obtained from two methods:i)a morpho-colorimetric method and ii)a visible(VIS)/Near Infrared(NIR)spectral analysis from sampled leaves of 20 different Chinese medicinal ***,the automated image analysis and VIS/NIR spectral based parameters obtained from leaves were used separately as inputs to construct customized artificial neural network(ANN)*** showed that the ANN model developed using the morpho-colorimetric parameters as inputs(Model A)had an accuracy of 98.3%in the classification of leaves for the 20 medicinal plants *** the case of the model based on spectral data from leaves(Model B),the ANN model obtained using the averaged VIS/NIR spectra per leaf as inputs showed 92.5%accuracy for the classification of all medicinal plants *** A has the advantage of being cost effective,requiring only a normal document scanner as measuring *** method can be adapted for non-destructive assessment of leaves in-situ by using portable wireless *** B combines the fast,non-destructive advantages of VIS/NIR spectroscopy,which can be used for rapid and non-invasive identification of Chinese medicinal plants and other applications by analyzing specific light spectra overtones from leaves to assess concentration of pigments such as chlorophyll,anthocyanins and others that are related active compounds from the medicinal plants.

With the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11,2020,the University of Tennessee College of veterinary Medicine(UTCVM),like other institutions,restructured their services to reduce the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus while simultaneously providing critical and essential veterinary services.A mathematical model was developed to predict the change in the level of possible COVID-19 infections due to the increased number of potential contacts within the UTCVM hospital.A system of ordinary differential equations with different compartments for UTCVM individuals and the Knox county population was formulated to show the dynamics of transmission and the number of confirmed *** transmission rates in the model were estimated using COVID-19 case data from the surrounding county and UTCVM *** from this model show the increasing number of COVID-19 cases among UTCVM personnel as the number of daily clients and the number of veterinary staff in the clinic are *** also investigate how changes within the Knox county community impact the UTCVM *** scenarios show the importance of understanding the effects of re-opening scenarios in veterinary teaching hospitals.
