Degradation of gaseous hydrocarbons in aerated stirred bioreactors inoculated with Rhodococcus erythropolis:Effect of the carbon source and SIFT-MS method development

The study of microbial hydrocarbons removal is of great importance for the development of future bioremediation *** this study,we evaluated the removal of a gaseous mixture containing toluene,m-xylene,ethylbenzene,cyclohexane,butane,pentane,hexane and heptane in aerated stirred bioreactors inoculated with Rhodococcus erythropolis and operated under non-sterile *** the real-time measurement of hydrocarbons,a novel systematic approachwas implemented using Selected-Ion Flow TubeMass Spectrometry(SIFTMS).The effect of the carbon source(~9.5 ppmv)on(i)the bioreactors’performance(BR1:dosed with only cyclohexane as a single hydrocarbon versus BR2:dosed with a mixture of the 8 hydrocarbons)and(ii)the evolution of microbial communities over time were *** results showed that cyclohexane reached a maximum removal efficiency(RE)of 53%±4%in *** BR2,almost complete removal of toluene,m-xylene and ethylbenzene,being the most water-soluble and easy-to-degrade carbon sources,was *** below 32%were obtained for the remaining *** exposing the microbial consortium to only the five most recalcitrant hydrocarbons,REs between 45%±5%and 98%±1%were *** addition,we observed that airborne microorganisms populated the bioreactors and that the type of carbon source influenced the microbial communities *** abundance of species belonging to the genus Rhodococcus was below 10%in all bioreactors at the end of the *** work provides fundamental insights to understand the complex behavior of gaseous hydrocarbon mixtures in bioreactors,along with a systematic approach for the development of SIFT-MS methods.

Biomechanical study of the visual system by ocular response analyzer investigates the inter-structural biological relationships,mechanics,and function of the visual *** review aimed to investigate the changes in corneal biomechanical parameters with age and *** articles published in PubMed between 2000 and 2021 were investigated and critiqued,and valid scientific evidence was collected,reviewed and concluded according to the inclusion and exclusion *** studies showed that corneal biomechanical changes occur infrequently in children up to the age of 20y,and with increasing age and wider age range,there was a significant decrease in corneal biomechanical indices,especially corneal *** children and adults,most studies have shown that these biomechanical indicators,especially corneal resistance factor,were higher in *** hormonal changes may contribute to this finding,the role of axial length and other biometric indicators should not be *** axial length,the intraocular pressure,and the corneal thickness are other factors associated with biomechanical parameters that should be taken into account in clinical diagnosis and management especially for patients undergoing refractive surgery as well as keratoconus patients.

On the Riemann–Hilbert problem for the reverse space-time nonlocal Hirota equation with step-like initial data

In this paper, we use the Riemann–Hilbert(RH) method to investigate the Cauchy problem of the reverse space-time nonlocal Hirota equation with step-like initial data: q(z, 0) = o(1) as z →-∞ and q(z, 0) = δ + o(1) as z → ∞, where δ is an arbitrary positive constant. We show that the solution of the Cauchy problem can be determined by the solution of the corresponding matrix RH problem established on the plane of complex spectral parameter λ. As an example, we construct an exact solution of the reverse space-time nonlocal Hirota equation in a special case via this RH problem.

Using 2-dicyanomethylene-3-cyano-4,5,5-trimethyl-2,5-dihydrofuran(TCF)as a near-infrared fluorescent chromophore,we designed and synthesized a TCF-based fluorescent probe TCF-NS by introducing 2,4-dinitrophenyl ether as the recognized site for H_(2)*** probe TCF-NS displayed a rapid-response fluorescent against H_(2)S with high sensitivity and selection but had no significant fluorescence response to other ***,TCF-NS was applied to sense H_(2)S in living cells successfully with minimized cytotoxicity and a large Stokes shift.

Synergistic effects of constituents in rare earth-based composites:Enhanced structural,electrical and magnetic properties for water splitting applications

Rare earth-based Bi_(0.85)La_(0.15)FeO_(3)(BLFO)and NdMnO_(3)(NMO)particles were synthesised using the solidstate route,and their roles affecting structural,electrical,magnetic properties along with hydroelectric application in different concentrations i.e.,(1-x)BLFO:xNMO(where x=0,0.10,0.20,0.30 and 1.0)ceramics composites were investigated.X-ray diffraction analyses confirm the pure-phase formation of BLFO:NMO composites,featuring micrometer-scale crystallite *** transform infrared(FT-IR)spectra of BLFO:NMO composites reveal peak shifts with rising NMO content,indicating composite *** composites exhibit robust Maxwell-Wagner polarization and a pronounced composition-dependent *** addition of NMO to BLFO results in a rise in dielectric permittivity at lower frequencies,confirming relaxor behavior and indicating success in achieving the transition *** spectroscopy facilitates a clearer understanding of how charge carriers contribute to these composites and the impact of grain/grain *** saturation magnetization maximum value(i.e.,0.807 emu/g)was attained in *** coercivity decreases with the addition of NMO in *** results suggest the composite's enhanced suitability for microelectronics and hydropower cells,showing improved hydroelectric cell performance with increased NMO in BLFO,highlighting a notable ion diffusion mechanism.

Despite the availability of effective antibacterial drugs, the increasing prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is primarily attributed to their excessive and inappropriate utilization. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents one of the most concerning global health and development threats [1]. Thereby, the continuous escalation in AMR necessitates urgent advancements in novel antibacterial strategies. The MraY enzyme, which plays a pivotal role in synthesizing bacterial cell wall-composing polysaccharides, holds significant potential as a target for antibacterial agents [2]. However, its conformational dynamics have presented substantial challenges in developing MraY-targeting inhibitors.

Promising effects of Persian shallot extract on the serum markers and blood pressure of patients with metabolic syndrome:a double-blinded randomized controlled trial

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of Persian shallot extract on the serum markers and blood pressure of patients with metabolic syndrome(MetS). METHODS: Fifty patients with Met S diagnosis were randomly assigned to the intervention(Persian shallot extract) and the control(placebo) group. Both groups received treatment for three months. Before the study and at the end of the study, 5 mL peripheral blood was taken from each patient. The measured factors included total antioxidant capacity(TAC), superoxide dismutase enzyme(SOD), malondialdehyde, oxidized low-density lipoprotein(Ox-LDL), apolipoprotein H(Apo-H), fasting blood glucose(FBS), total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein(HDL), LDL, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. RESULTS: At baseline, the evaluated parameters were not significantly different between the intervention and control groups. At the end of the study, the mean serum levels of malondialdehyde and ox-LDL were significantly lower in the intervention group. The mean FBS, cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL were significantly lower in the intervention group. The mean TAC and HDL were significantly higher in the intervention group(P < 0.05). Moreover, the intervention group significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure. No other significant association was observed. CONCLUSION: Persian shallot extract has several beneficial effects in Met S patients, including optimizing oxidative balance, reducing blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, and blood lipid profile.

Topographic factors associated with anterior chamber angle narrowing in patients with keratoconus

AIM:To identify topographic determinants of the anterior chamber angle(ACA)in patients with keratoconus(KCN).METHODS:Four hundred and ten eyes of 294 patients with KCN were recruited for this ***,complete ocular examinations were performed for all patients,including visual acuity measurement,refraction,and slit-lamp ***,all participants underwent corneal imaging by the Oculus Pentacam ***:The mean age of the participants was 32.40±8.52y(15-60y)and 69.5%of them were *** mean ACA was 38.47°±5.75°(range:14.40°to 56.50°)in the whole sample,38.24°±6.00°in males,and 38.98°±5.11°in females(P=0.447).The mean ACA was significantly different among different groups of cone morphology,as patients with nipple cones showed the lowest mean ***,there were statistically significant differences in the mean ACA among different groups of cone locations,with patients having central cones exhibiting the lowest mean ACA(P<0.001).Anterior and posterior Q values were significantly,directly correlated with ACA(anterior Q:r=0.122,P=0.014,posterior Q:r=0.192,P<0.001).CONCLUSION:This study provides critical insights into the risk factors for ACA narrowing in KCN patients,which is essential for planning intraocular *** with nipple and central cones exhibited the most significant ACA ***,more negative Q-values are associated with increased ACA narrowing,highlighting the need for targeted diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
