Objective:To investigate the bioecological relationship between Chagas disease peridomestic vectors and reptiles as source of ***:In a three-story building,triatomines were captured by direct search and electric vacuum cleaner search in and outside the ***,age structure of the captured Triatoma maculata(***) were identified and *** living in sympatric with the triatomines were also ***:*** were found living sympatric with geckos(Thecadactylus rapicauda) and they bit residents of the apartment building in study.A total of 1 448 individuals of *** were captured within three days,of which 74.2%(1 074 eggs) were eggs,21.5%were nymphs at different stages,and 4.3%were ***:The association of *** and *** is an effective strategy of colonizing dwellings located in the vicinity of the habitat where both species are present;and therefore,could have implications of high importance in the intradomiciliary transmission of Chagas disease.

The focus of the Hazus earthquake model has been largely U.S. centric due to a lack of standardized building-infrastructure data formats applicable *** a combined effort between FEMA Region VIII and the Universidad de Los Andes, venezuela, the present study uses the Hazus 2.1 software to simulate earthquake loss estimations for venezuela. Population totals and demographic distributions were developed using Oak Ridge National Labs Landscan 2008 population data and the census 2011 for venezuela. The accuracy of the model was further enhanced for Me′rida State, located in western venezuela, by collecting, incorporating, and developing region and specific inventories including soil maps, liquefaction and landslide susceptibility studies, demographic data, and building inventory information. We used USGS Shake Maps scenarios for two potential earthquake events with peak ground accelerations proposed within Performance Based Seismic Engineering of Buildings, VISION 2000 recommendations. The region has not witnessed an earthquake with a magnitude greater than M 7 in the last120 years. Given the historical record of seismicity and the seismotectonics in the region, it becomes increasingly important to understand the potential implications from moderate to large earthquakes in Me′rida State, venezuela.

During 15 months the white shrimp (Litopenaeus schmitti) fishing zone was characterized ecologically through the obtaining, compilation and analysis of environmental and physicochemical variables, and modeled the distribution of the relative abundance (CPUE) obtained in 21 fishing sites according to the environmental structure defined by the studied variables. A two-way factorial ANOVA with interaction was used to examine the spatial (fishing sites) and temporal (months) dynamics of CPUE, and a principal component analysis (PCA) was used to discern the environmental structure of the study area. To determine if the environmental structure modeled the distribution of white shrimp, the CPUE values were superimposed on maps of the study area showing strata of the most important physicochemical variables identified by PCA. ANOVA confirmed that the CPUE differed significantly among months (F = 15.6;GL = 11;P P = 0.1979);the interaction term was also not significant (F = 0.52;GL = 10;P = 0.8561). The superimposing of the CPUE on temperature and depth strata confirmed that white shrimp showed greater preference for intermediate temperatures and depths. Petróleos de venezuela, S.A (PDVSA) contemplates the construction of a multiuse pipeline traversing the study area, by which the current environmental structure of the study area is prone to disturbance. Given the precedent effects represented by an aqueduct construction, it seems PDVSA should anticipate measures to minimize its impact on the fisheries of the zone, particularly on the white shrimp fishery.

Triatominae species are considered the main vectors of Chagas disease or American Trypanosomiasis. In venezuela, the principal vectors are Rhodnius prolixus （Stal, 1959） and Triatoma maculata （Erichson, 1848）, which are belonged to the tribe Rhodniini and Triatomini, respectively. The head conformation and size development of these species can reflect ontogenetic changes which contribute with the vectors biology studies, as well to support of instars determination. The goal of the paper is to the application of geometric morphometric techniques for describing head conformation and size of instars of these species. We photographed 140 heads in R. prolixus： First instar （I： 16）, second instar （II： 17）, third instar （III： 18）, fourth instar （IV： 21）, fifth instar （V： 21）, adult female （F： 26） and adult males （M： 21）; in T. maculata heads of 136 specimens were photographed,I： 20, II： 17, III： 26, IV： 15, V： 19, F： 20 and M： 19. Landmark coordinate （x, y） configurations were registered and aligned by Generalized Procrustes Analysis. Covariance Analyses were implemented with proportions of re-classified groups and MANOVA. Statistical analyses of variance found not significant differences in head isometric size （Kruskal-Wallis） among IV and V instars in both species. The a posteriori re-classification was almost perfect in R. prolixus （82%） and T. maculata （86%）; the main head differences occurs in antenniferous tubercles, postocular and preocular. Our study using quantitative tools for describing the shape differences contributes to explain the morphology variability and development of Chagas disease vectors.

The invasion process involves overcoming certain barriers with negative effects on the biodiversity and ecosystem function. This is the case of the African dung beetle Digitonthophagus gazella, which was introduced in the United States and other countries in Central and South America to help in dung removal activity. The distribution of D. gazella has been documented in the Americas, but in venezuela there is little information. Trying to understand the process of invasion of the Colombian-venezuelan savannas and measure their potential impact, the information stored in collections and literature was collected. Five new state records were reported for venezuela, as well as four scenarios of the process of introduction and establishment of this species in the region. Although the amount of records has increased, the number of individuals sampled is still incipient. The possible areas of invasion and the potential negative effects that the presence of this species exerts in these regions are also discussed. In addition, potential areas of invasion and negative effects of this species are discussed. Results emphasize the importance of generating models of the invasive process in order to design programs that monitor the effects incurred by the presence of D. gazella on native species and propose control and mitigation mechanisms.

Chemical Composition of Meat in Castrated Male Brahman Cattle in venezuela

Chemical composition of Brahman cattle was studied and determined in this study. Fifty males had been castrated at birth, farmed semi-intensively on the venezuelan plain and then slaughtered at the age of 31 months with an approximate weight of 500 kilograms. The average pH value of beef was 5,84 after obtained for 24 hours after staughtering, which matches the ~atue found in similar studies made on the same breed in venezuela （5.8）. The moisture, crude protein and ash contents correspond to the expected values of cattle, while the intramuscular fat values are slightly higher than those of the different breeds ofBos indicus. The total collagen values found in this study are either similar or lower than those found by other researches from the different breeds ofBos indicus and their crossbreeds, while the collagen solubility value （39%） was higher than the one found in other studies on the Brahman breed.

Background: Decomposition process controls the release and the availability of essential nutrients, which affects the structure and the functioning of plant communities. Freshwater reservoirs are largely known to have impacts on the water quality, especially during the first phases of filling. The aim of the study was to conduct a nutrient release experiment where decomposition of fresh leaves and litter from vegetation of a low dry tropical forest was flooded. Selected species were Leguminosae species Albizia glabripetala (H. S. Irwin) G. P. Lewis & P. E. Owen (AG), Bauhinia aculeata L. (BA), Centrolobium paraense Tul. (CP) and Piptadenia leucoxyllon Barneby & J. W. Grimes (PL). Freshwater decomposition experiments were carried out at 50 cm depth inside nine floating containers in a protected area of the reservoir: litter (HJ), leaves of AG and BA (E2), and CP and PL (E3) were used. It was over 20 weeks period. Every week for two months and at week 20, a bag of each sample was extracted for analysis of Carbon, Ca, Mg, Na, K, P and S. Results: Results indicate that residual dry mass decreased by 71% for HJ, 81.4% for E2, and more than 86.8% for E3 after twenty weeks. The higher content of carbon (%) at the beginning of the experiment was E2 > E3 > HJ. After 20 weeks, the percentage of carbon loss was 2.09% for HJ, 3.02% for E2, and 1.69% for E3. S decreased between 50% - 60% during the first week;at 20 weeks, the remaining amount of S was 13% for HJ and E3 and 7% for E2. P showed a different pattern, where the second week was more important for the release. HJ and E3 followed the pattern of nutrient release: K > Mg > Na > Ca while E2 was K > Ca > Mg > Na. Conclusions: P and S release depends on the time of submergence and the species. Fresh leaves decay faster than necromass. Nutrient loss is higher than 50% for the three first weeks and seems constant between week 8 - 20. C and S concentrations incorporated in the reservoir can result in a high release of gases CH<
