Today,continuous casting is a highly matured *** though new technical and metallurgical developments lead to sustainable improvements in operation,product quality and machine reliability,the increasing requirements of steel plant operation and product end users demand new solutions,thus resulting in completely new options for investors and plant *** adaptation of the casting dimensions through consequent mechatronization of the machine components leads to increases in operation *** approaches in product cooling result in increased production rates and *** solutions provide a quantum leap in process stability and operational *** in machine design and automation allow for the customised application of configurations for new plants and modernisation projects,together with improved serviceability of the *** examples are presented which enable casting machines to produce a wide range of products,such as thin slab casters with ultra high speed casting for close coupled rolling in a HSM,conventional high production and high performance machines and special casters for high alloy content slabs or ultra large casting thickness up to 400 mm. Operational and metallurgical results complete the paper.

＜正＞In September 2011,the world’s most modern bow type caster with vertical mold was commissioned at the steel plant No.3 at voestalpine in linz,*** caster has a basic radius of 10m and is designed for maximum slab thickness of 355 mm with a maximum width of 2200 mm and straightening is carried out with a liquid *** latest state-of-the-art technology,with adjustable spray nozzles （3D Sprays）,EcoStar rollers and the latest generation of process automation models,such as Dynacs 3D,DynaPhase and DynaGap Soft Reduction,have been implemented to achieve the highest quality of the produced *** highlight of this project is the installation of two LiquiRob industrial robot systems on the casting platform which increase the safety of the operating personnel *** paper gives an overview about the start up and highlights of this favourable caster concept with selected operational results.

＜正＞Cold strip producers are permanently seeking for mill equipment and automation solutions,which ensure the most efficient rolling operation and fulfill the demands of the future market in terms of strip quality,dimensional performances and steel grade mix to be produced. Today the trend to use high-strength steel grades such as dual phase or TRIP steels in the automotive industries motivates the steel producers to invest in rolling mill equipment and automation solutions,which are able to produce these grades although the percentage of the product mix is rather small.A big portion of the product mix still presents the traditional steel grades. Siemens vai sees its responsibility as cold rolling mill supplier to understand all requirements of the cold strip producer including strip quality,investment,production and maintenance *** in depth analysis of the product mix is necessary to determine the best equipment and automation solution to fulfil customer requirements for high strength *** paper explains how the maximum reduction,the required flatness adjustment range and mill stiffness influence the optimum solution especially when it comes to rolling of advanced high strength *** projects executed or currently under way by Siemens vai for each of the mill types will be explained as well as the reasons for the individual solutions:

Latest developments for dry and wet dedusting systems for converter steel making

Environmental requirements world wide and in the *** China in particular have increased and authorities are increasing the pressure on steelmakers to comply with always more stringent limits and standards. Modern converter steel making goes along with the innovation and new developments not only for the primary converter process itself but even more for the dedusting *** paper describes the benefits and latest development of advanced off gas cleaning and recovery systems based on dry type cleaning with electrostatic precipitation and wet type gas cleaning based on wet *** converter dedusting is based on suppressed combustion systems in order to reduce off gas amounts and to be able to use the gas for gas *** dry type primary off gas treatment system based on electrostatic precipitator technology is the most advanced environmental solution available for converter steel *** dedusting has been introduced in China successfully with a significant contribution by Siemens vai being the market leader for converter dry dedusting *** vai has introduced several design improvements over the last years such as CFD modeling of flow conditions in evaporation cooler,design of chains for dust conveyors,design of ESP inlet,design and thickness of discharge electrodes and operation in energy saving *** the DDS process has been successfully implemented in China for the De-P *** gas recovery system for DDS has been optimized over the years with high quality equipment and integrated automation and control *** type dedusting for converter gas is a well proven technology for many years and is still widely used due to the simplicity of the process and the lower investment *** has continuously improved it's wet dedusting technologies to provide highly energy efficient systems which can achieve lowest levels of clean gas dust while still maintaining a moderate water and energy consumption with simpl
