Structure and dendroecology of Thuja occidentalis in disjunct stands south of its contiguous range in the central Appalachian Mountains, USA

Background： Information on forest structure, growth, and disturbance history is essential for effective forest management in a dynamic landscape. Because most of our research concerning the ecology and growth of Thujo ocddenralis comes from sites in northern portions of its range, highly contextual biotic and abiotic factors that affect the species in more southern locales may not be fully accounted for. This research characterized the structural attributes and growth dynamics of Thuja occidentolis in disjunct forest stands south of its contiguous range margin. Methods： The Thujo occidentalis forests examined in this research were located in the central Appalachian Mountains, USA, approximately 440 km south of the contiguous range margin of the species. Forest structural attributes were characterized in two Thujo occidentalis forest stands, which are rare in the region. Tree-ring chronologies were used to examine the influences of disturbance and climate on the growth of Thuja occidentolis. Results： The forests contained a total of 13 tree species with Thuja occidentalis contributing substantially to the basal area of the sites. Thujo occidentalis stems were absent in the smallest size class, while hardwood species were abundant in the smallest classes. Thuja occidentalis stems also were absent from the 〈 70 years age class. By contrast, Thuja occidentalis snags were abundant within stands. Growth-release events were distributed across the disturbance chronology and generally affected a small number of trees. The Thujo occidentolis tree-ring chronology possessed an interseries correlation of 0.62 and mean sensitivity of 0.25. The correlation between mean temperature and Thuja occidentalis growth was weak and variable. Growth and moisture variables were more strongly correlated, and this relationship was predominantly positive. The United Nations’2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sets seventeen Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)to be achieved by *** observation are needed that can support the development and validation of transformation policies to make progress towards the SDGs.A participatory and inclusive goal-based approach(GBA)is introduced that links societal goals,targets and indicators to Essential Transformation variables(ETVs)of the human and non-human *** GBA is complementary to the widely used expertbased *** GBA is applied to the SDGs at the goal,target and indicator *** high-level conceptual model used for the SDGs is humanity embedded in the Earth’s life-support system(ELSS).At the goal level,very few of the SDGs are directly focusing on the ELSS and its *** of the SDG Targets focus on transformations in society and the built *** targets that explicitly focus on the physiology of the ELSS would be important for *** of the current indicator measure the built environment and the embedded social *** development requires a functioning ELSS,and to ensure this,complementary indicators that bring environmental aspects to the monitoring of SDG targets are needed.

In October 2021,an international collaborative study on the use of electroacupuncture(EA)to treat inflammation was published in the journal Nature by *** Ma’s *** on the results of EA on inflammation in the mouse model of lipopolysaccharide inflammatory storm,the study showed that the distal effect of acupuncture can be achieved by“driving the vagus-adrenal axis(through the adrenal medulla,by releasing catecholamines).”PROKR2Cre-marked sensory neurons,which innervate the deep hindlimb fascia but not the abdominal fascia,are crucial for driving this *** study suggests the existence of specificity distribution of acupoints,that different EA stimulation intensities or different needle penetration depths have different therapeutic effects,that photosensitive stimulation may be a substitute for needle acupuncture,and that massage,stretching and body movements may also activate PROKR2Cremarkable dorsal root ganglion sensory neurons and elicit anti-inflammatory ***,results of some other studies are contrary to the conclusions of Ma’s *** examples:low-intensity EA at GB30 point significantly reduced the inflammation in the rat model of persistent inflammation,which is more relevant to the real daily acupuncture practice,and this effect was partly related to the adrenal cortex and associated with the stimulation of corticosterone and adrenocorticotropic hormone;manual acupuncture(similar to the low-intensity EA)at KI3,Zhichuan point(an extra point),*** effective in a severe COVID-19 patient with sepsis;stimulating ST25 with low-intensity EA or manual acupuncture was effective against gastrointestinal inflammations;the above mentioned points are not in an area enriched with PROKR2Cre-marked sensory nerve *** shows that the mechanism of EA against inflammation includes modulating multi-systems,multi-levels and multi-targets,which does not limit to“driving the vagus-adrenal axis.”

BACKGROUND Amyloidosis is a rare disease characterized by extracellular deposition of misfolded protein aggregated into insoluble *** involvement in systemic amyloidosis is common,but is often subclinical or presents as vague and nonspecific *** is rare for gastrointestinal symptoms to be the main presenting symptom in patients with systemic amyloidosis,causing it to be undiagnosed until late-stage *** SUMMARY A 53 year-old man with diarrhea,hematochezia,and weight loss presented to a community *** with biopsy at that time was suspicious for Crohn *** to worsening symptoms including nausea,vomiting,and a new petechial rash,an abdominal fat pad biopsy was *** biopsy showed papillary and adnexal dermal amyloid deposition,in a pattern usually seen with cutaneous ***,Cytokeratin 5/6 was negative,excluding cutaneous *** patterns of nodular amyloidosis,subcutaneous amyloid deposits and perivascular amyloid were not *** Acid-Schiff stain was negative for lipoid proteinosis,Congo red was positive for apple green birefringence on polarization and amyloid typing confirmed amyloid light chain *** endoscopic biopsies of the gastrointestinal tract showed amyloid deposition from the esophagus to the rectum,in a pattern usually seen in serum amyloid A in the setting of chronic inflammatory diseases,including severe inflammatory bowel *** marrow biopsy showed kappa-restricted plasma cell *** Described is an unusual presentation of primary systemic amyloidosis,highlighting the risk of misdiagnosis with subsequent significant organ dysfunction and high mortality.

Background:This study evaluated the VIsion PERformance(VIPER)simulator’s ability to assess the functional visual performance in warfighters conducting civilian and military ***:Thirty service members,aged 25–35 years old with a best corrected distance visual acuity(va)better than or equal to 20/20 or logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution(logMAR)0.00,were randomized to locate and identify road signs and mock improvised explosive devices(IEDs)under either daytime conditions or with infrared imagery,with(cc)and without(sc)wearing their habitual *** also underwent binocular uncorrected(UDva)and corrected(CDva)visual assessment,refraction,contrast sensitivity testing and wavefront ***:The mean age was 28.47 *** manifest spherical equivalent was–3.16±1.75 diopters(D),the UDva in both eyes(OU)was logMAR 0.83±0.47,and the CDva OU was–0.11±*** VIPER,the mean difference in the detection distance(DD)for road signs ccDD *** was(76.7±52.8)m(P<0.001).The average difference in identification distance(ID)ccID *** was(13.9±6.3)m(P<0.001).The mean accuracies were 83.5%and 27.9%for cc and sc,respectively(P<0.001).The regression analysis indicated that a 1.6 m change in the distance accounts for a 1%change in the accuracy(P=0.002).Without correction,a 4.1 m change accounts for a 1%change in the accuracy(P<0.001).The average IED ccDD was(29.9±8.2)m,and that for scDD was(13.2±13.6)m(P<0.001).The average IED ccID was(32.2±6.2)m and that for the scID was(7.4±10.3)m(P<0.001).The mean IED identification accuracy was 46.7 and 11.4%for cc and sc,respectively(P<0.001).Conclusions:The preliminary results reflect VIPER’s ability to assess functional visual performance when detecting and identifying signs and ***,VIPER is able to detect performance changes with and without correction.

The biological properties of tumor cells are known to be regulated by a multitude of cytokines and growth factors,which include epidermal growth factor receptor agonists and members of the transforming growth factor β ***,the recent explosion of research in the field of chemokine function as mediators of tumor progression has led to the possibility that these small,immunomodulatory proteins also play key roles in carcinogenesis and may,therefore,be potential targets for novel therapeutic *** this review,we will summarize recently reported findings in chemokine biology with a focus on the gastrointestinal tract.
