Nitrogen-Doped Graphene Foam as a Metal-Free Catalyst for Reduction Reactions under a High Gravity Field

Herein,we report on the effect of a high gravity field on metal-free catalytic reduction,taking the nitrobenzene(NB)reduction and methylene blue(MB)degradation as model reactions in a highgravity rotating tube reactor packed with three-dimensional(3D)nitrogen-doped graphene foam(NGF)as a metal-free *** apparent rate constant(kapp)of the metal-free catalytic reduction of NB in the rotating tube reactor under a high gravity level of 6484g(g=9.81 m s-2)was six times greater than that in a conventional stirred reactor(STR)under *** fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations indicated that the improvement of the catalytic efficiency was attributed to the much higher turbulent kinetic energy and faster surface renewal rate in the high-gravity tube reactor in comparison w让h those in a conventional *** structure of the 3D metal-free catalysts was stable during the reaction process under a high gravity field,as confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and Raman *** the other model reaction,the rate of MB degradation also increased as the high gravity level in creased gradually,which aligns with the result for the NB catalytic reduction *** results demonstrate the potential to use a high-gravity rotating packed tube reactor for the process intensification of metal-free catalytic reduction reactions.

African Americans have exceptionally high rates of hypertension and hypertension related complications. It is commonly reported that the blood pressure lowering efficacy of renin angiotensin system(RAS) inhibitors is attenuated in African Americans due to a greater likelihood of having a low renin profile. Therefore these agents are often not recommended as initial therapy in African Americans with hypertension. However, the high prevalence of comorbid conditions, such as diabetes, cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease makes treatment with RAS inhibitors more compelling. Despite lower circulating renin levels and a less significant fall in blood pressure in response to RAS inhibitors in African Americans, numerous clinical trials support the efficacy of RAS inhibitors to improve clinical outcomes in this population, especially in those with hypertension and risk factors for cardiovascular and related diseases. Here, we discuss the rationale of RAS blockade as part of a comprehensive approach to attenuate the high rates of premature morbidity and mortality associated with hypertension among African Americans.

湖水溶解无机碳同位素(δ13CDIC)是研究湖泊碳循环的有效手段,其影响因素分析是古湖沼学中重建过去环境的理论基础,但国内关于这一方面的研究却还相对较少.本文研究了羌塘高原24个湖泊水体δ13CDIC值空间分布特征及其影响因素.结果表明,所选湖泊水体δ13CDIC值在-15.0‰至3.2‰之间,平均值为-1.2‰,表现出较高的同位素特征,部分湖泊δ13CDIC值甚至高于水体与大气CO2交换平衡时的同位素值.羌塘高原湖水普遍显碱性并具有较高的碱度,大部分咸水湖泊溶解CO2呈逸出状态,仅有少数淡水或微咸水湖泊以溶解大气CO2为主要特征.封闭湖泊水体DIC浓度和δ13CDIC值要明显高于入流河水,而外流湖泊与河水较为接近.湖水与大气CO2交换程度决定了羌塘高原封闭湖泊δ13CDIC值的高低.由于封闭湖泊DIC滞留时间长,湖水与大气CO2交换程度高,湖水δ13CDIC值比较接近平衡状态.本研究对认识羌塘高原封闭湖泊碳循环过程及沉积物中无机碳同位素环境意义具有重要理论价值.

Recovery of motor function after subcortical stroke appears to be related to the integrity of descending connections from the ipsilesional cortical motor system, a view supported by the observation of greater than normal movement-related activation in ipsilesional motor regions in chronic subcortical stroke patients. This suggests that damage to the descending output fibres from one region of the cortical motor system may be compensated by activity in areas that retain corticofugal outputs. Though the trajectories of corticofugal fibres from each major component of the motor system through the corona radiata and internal capsule are well described in non-human primates, they have not been described fully in humans. Our study set out to map the trajectories of these connections in a group of healthy volunteers (8 male, 4 female; age range = 31-68 years, median = 48.5 years) and establish whether this knowledge can be used to assess stroke-induced disconnection of the cortical motor system and better interpret functional reorganization of the cortical motor system. We describe the trajectories of the connections from each major component of the motor system to the cerebral peduncle using diffusion-weighted imaging and probabilistic tractography in normal subjects. We observed good reproducibility of these connections over subjects. The comparative topography of these connections revealed many similarities between humans and other primates. We then inferred damage to corticofugal pathways in stroke patients (n = 3) by comparing the overlap between regions of subcortical white matter damage with the trajectories of the connections to each motor area. In a small series of case studies, we found that inferred disconnections could explain enhanced hand-grip-related responses, as assessed with functional MRI, in the ipsilesional motor system. Increasing BMI Z-Scores 3 Years after Diagnosis among a Multiethnic Cohort of Childhood Cancer Survivors Treated in South los angeles

Background: Due to successful treatment modalities, the majority of pediatric cancer patients will survive. Increased body mass index (BMI) is a complication among pediatric cancer survivors. Methods: This retrospective single-center study examined BMI changes among a cohort of predominantly Hispanic patients who were treated in South los angeles. Data were collected at diagnosis, 1, 2 and 3 years after. Analyses included z-scores derived from calculated BMIs compared over 3 years per gender, diagnosis, and treatment modality. The unhealthy BMI z-score was defined as >1.04. Results: Thirty-four percent of the predominantly Hispanic sample had unhealthy BMI z-scores of >1.04 correlating to at or greater than the 85th percentile for age and gender. The study cohort’s BMI z-scores significantly increased from 0.15 to 1.29 at year 3 (P < 0.0001), putting 55% of this population in the unhealthy category. Median BMI z-score significantly increased to the unhealthy category at 3 years. Conclusions: Due to the predominance of Hispanic patients in this group, culturally sensitive interventions beginning at diagnosis should be considered.
