Considering the increasing integration of renewable energies into the power grid,batteries are expected to play a key role in the challenge of compensating the stochastic and intermittent nature of these energy sources.Besides,the deployment of batteries can increase the benefits of a renewable power plant.One way to increase the profits with batteries studied in this paper is performing energy arbitrage.This strategy is based on storing energy at low electricity price moments and selling it when electricity price is high.In this paper,a hybrid renewable energy system consisting of wind and solar power with batteries is studied,and an optimization process is conducted in order to maximize the benefits regarding the dayahead production scheduling of the plant.A multi-objective cost function is proposed,which,on the one hand,maximizes the obtained profit,and,on the other hand,reduces the loss of value of the battery.A particle swarm optimization algorithm is developed and fitted in order to solve this non-linear multi-objective function.With the aim of analyzing the importance of considering both the energy efficiency of the battery and its loss of value,two more simplified cost functions are proposed.Results show the importance of including the energy efficiency in the cost function to optimize.Besides,it is proven that the battery lifetime increases substantially by using the multi-objective cost function,whereas the profitability is similar to the one obtained in case the loss of value is not considered.Finally,due to the small difference in price among hours in the analyzed Iberian electricity market,it is observed that low profits can be provided to the plant by using batteries just for arbitrage purposes in the day-ahead market.

Cognitive rehabilitation is a potential and promising treatment for cognitive impairment in Parkinson＇s disease （PD） that has shown efficacy in diverse studies. In addition, some few studies have found brain changes after cognitive rehabilitation in PD, which supports the existence of brain plasticity associated to cognitive training in a degen- erative disease.

Use of residual lignocellulosic biomass for energetic uses and environmental remediation through pyrolysis

This study analyzes the potential of an agricultural residue,hazelnut shells,as raw material in a combined ther-mochemical process to obtain pyro-gas and biochar for environmental remediation.The novelty of this study relies on the definition of a pyrolytic polygeneration process to simultaneously attain an energy-type product and abiochar to maximize the versatility of the products and their usage.To this aim,the heating value of the gas and its potential to feed a micro combined heat and power(micro-CHP)system was evaluated.Additionally,the resulting biochar was chemically activated and tested as adsorbent for the removal of contaminants from an aqueous solution.Results show that the pyro-gas from the shell-type residue was suitable to be used as feed stream in a micro-CHP unit,which was able to operate near the full-load(91.9%)with electrical and thermal efficiencies of 27.6%and 57.9%,respectively.In the case of the biochar fraction,poor results were found for the char prior to activation.Instead,once it was activated with KOH,the resulting activated carbon presented high effectiveness as adsorbent and complete removal of the measured compound(methylene blue)was achieved.

We experimentally investigate deep reinforcement learning(DRL)as an artificial intelligence approach to control a quantum system.We verify that DRL explores fast and robust digital quantum controls with operation time analytically hinted by shortcuts to adiabaticity.In particular,the protocol’s robustness against both over-rotations and off-resonance errors can still be achieved simultaneously without any priori input.For the thorough comparison,we choose the task as single-qubit flipping,in which various analytical methods are well-developed as the benchmark,ensuring their feasibility in the quantum system as well.Consequently,a gate operation is demonstrated on a trapped^(171) Yb^(+)ion,significantly outperforming analytical pulses in the gate time and energy cost with hybrid robustness,as well as the fidelity after repetitive operations under time-varying stochastic errors.Our experiments reveal a framework of computer-inspired quantum control,which can be extended to other complicated tasks without loss of generality.

Systematic study of the dependence of magnetic and structural properties of Nd2Fe14B powders on the average particle size

A systematic study of the magnetic and structural properties dependence on the particle size was realized.For this,commercial NdFeB powder was separated into five different mean particle sizes using sieves.Besides,from the original powder,eleven samples were also produced by mechanical milling assisted by surfactant,using various milling times.A total of sixteen samples were studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),vibrating sample magnetometry(VSM),and Mdssbauer spectrometry(MS).The particle sizes of the samples vary from the micrometer to the nanometer scale.The crystallite size decreases with decreasing particle size.XRD result indicates that the Nd2Fe14B phase is found in all the samples,and the presence of this phase is also corroborated by MS using six sextets for fitting their spectra,with an additional singlet corresponding to the Nd1.1Fe4B4 phase.The mean hyperfine magnetic field increases with increasing particle size because the magnetic dipolar interaction between the magnetic moment of the particles increases with particle size.From the VSM measurements the magnetic energy density(BH)max values were calculated for different particle sizes,and their maximum value of 34.45 MGOe is obtained for the sample with the particle size of 60μm.

While electrocatalyzed alkyne annulations of arenes represent a powerful strategy for the assembly of heteroaromatic motives,electrochemical C(sp2)−H activations of alkenes remain scarce.Herein,a strategy for the rhodaelectro-catalyzed function-alization of enamides is presented for the efficient construction of pyrroles using electricity as a sustainable oxidant.Moreover,the tuning of the solvent system allowed a fascinating switch in chemoselectivity,which is not possible with traditionally used chemical oxidants,giving rise to lactone architectures.The rhoda-electrocatalysis features a broad scope as well as high regio-and chemoselectivities.

Split-root systems applied to the study of the legume-rhizobial symbiosis: What have we learned?

Split-root system（SRS） approaches allow the differential treatment of separate and independent root systems, while sharing a common aerial part. As such, SRS is a useful tool for the discrimination of systemic（shoot origin）versus local（root/nodule origin） regulation mechanisms. This type of approach is particularly useful when studying the complex regulatory mechanisms governing the symbiosis established between legumes and Rhizobium bacteria. The current work provides an overview of the main insights gained from the application of SRS approaches to understand how nodule number（nodulation autoregulation） and nitrogen fixation are controlled both under non-stressful conditions and in response to a variety of stresses. Nodule number appears to be mainly controlled at the systemic level through a signal which is produced by nodule/root tissue, translocated to the shoot, and transmitted back to the root system, involving shoot Leu-rich repeat receptor-like kinases. In contrast, both local and systemic mechanisms have been shown to operate for the regulation of nitrogenase activity in nodules. Under drought and heavy metal stress, the regulation is mostly local,whereas the application of exogenous nitrogen seems to exert a regulation of nitrogen fixation both at the local and systemic levels.

Depression is a common,recurrent mental disorder and one of the leading causes of disability and global burden of disease worldwide.Up to 15%-40%of cases do not respond to diverse pharmacological treatments and,thus,can be defined as treatment-resistant depression(TRD).The development of biomarkers predictive of drug response could guide us towards personalized and earlier treatment.Growing evidence points to the involvement of the glutamatergic system in the pathogenesis of TRD.Specifically,the N-methyl-D-aspartic acid receptor(NMDAR)andα-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor(AMPAR),which are targeted by ketamine and esketamine,are proposed as promising pathways.A literature search was performed to identify studies on the genetics of the glutamatergic system in depression,focused on variables related to NMDARs and AMPARs.Our review highlights GRIN2B,which encodes the NR2B subunit of NMDAR,as a candidate gene in the pathogenesis of TRD.In addition,several studies have associated genes encoding AMPAR subunits with symptomatic severity and suicidal ideation.These genes encoding glutamatergic receptors could,therefore,be candidate genes for understanding the etiopathogenesis of TRD,as well as for understanding the pharmacodynamic mechanisms and response to ketamine and esketamine treatment.

Efficient passivation of DY center in CH_(3)NH_(3)PbBr_(3) by chlorine:Quantum molecular dynamics

MAPbBr_(3)(MA=CH_(3)NH_(3)^(+))doping with bismuth increases electric conductivity,charge carrier density and photostability,reduces toxicity,and expands light absorption.However,Bi doping shortens excited-state lifetimes due to formation of DY−charge recombination centers.Using nonadiabatic molecular dynamics and time-domain density functional theory,we demonstrate that the DY−center forms a deep,highly localized hole trap,which accelerates nonradiative relaxation ten-fold and is responsible for 90%of carrier losses.Hole trapping occurs by coupling between the valence band and the trap state,facilitated by the Br atoms surrounding the Bi dopant.Passivation of the DY−center with chlorines heals the local geometry distortion,eliminates the trap state,and makes the carrier lifetimes longer than even in pristine MAPbBr_(3).The decreased charge recombination arises from reduced nonadiabatic coupling and shortened coherence time,due to diminished electron–hole overlap around the passivated defect.Our study demonstrates accelerated nonradiative recombination in Bi-doped MAPbBr_(3),suggests a strategy for defect passivation and reduction of nonradiative energy losses,and provides atomistic insights into unusual defect properties of metal halide perovskites needed for rational design of high-performance perovskite solar cells and optoelectronic devices.

Control of APN/CD13 and NEP/CD10 on sperm motility

Aminopeptidase N （APN/CD13） and neutral endopeptidase （NEP/CD10） are enzymes present in human sperm cells and involved in regulation of sperm motility of noncapacitated spermatozoa. We investigated the involvement of APN/CD 13 and NEP/CD 10 in motility and in kinematic parameters of human capacitated spermatozoa. Sperm cells isolated by a discontinuous Percoll gradient （40%-80%） followed up by swim-up techniques were incubated with the APN/CD 13 -specific inhibitor, leuhistin （100 μmol L^-1）, and the NEP/CD 10-specific inhibitor, thiorphan （1 μmol L^-1）. The complete inhibition of both APN/CD 13 and NEP/CD 10 improved sperm motility. Spermatozoa incubated with the APN/CD13-specific inhibitor lenhistin showed asymmetrical trajectories, whereas sperm trajectories were more regular after treatment with the NEP/CD 10-specific inhibitor thiorphan. In conclusion, APN/CD 13 and NEP/CD 10 modulate the motility of capacitated spermatozoa, although each of the enzymes seems to participate in the control of different aspects of sperm motility. Therefore, both inhibitors may be useful for sperm activation at different functional stages of spermatozoa.
