Dear Editor,This letter proposes to integrate dendritic learnable network architecture with Vision Transformer to improve the accuracy of image recognition.In this study,based on the theory of dendritic neurons in neuroscience,we design a network that is more practical for engineering to classify visual features.Based on this,we propose a dendritic learning-incorporated vision Transformer(DVT),which out-performs other state-of-the-art methods on three image recognition benchmarks.

Spinal cord injury is an intractable traumatic injury. The most common hurdles faced during spinal cord injury are failure of axonal regrowth and reconnection to target sites. These also tend to be the most challenging issues in spinal cord injury. As spinal cord injury progresses to the chronic phase, lost motor and sensory functions are not recovered. Several reasons may be attributed to the failure of recovery from chronic spinal cord injury. These include factors that inhibit axonal growth such as activated astrocytes, chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan, myelin-associated proteins, inflammatory microglia, and fibroblasts that accumulate at lesion sites. Skeletal muscle atrophy due to denervation is another chronic and detrimental spinal cord injury–specific condition. Although several intervention strategies based on multiple outlooks have been attempted for treating spinal cord injury, few approaches have been successful. To treat chronic spinal cord injury, neural cells or tissue substitutes may need to be supplied in the cavity area to enable possible axonal growth. Additionally, stimulating axonal growth activity by extrinsic factors is extremely important and essential for maintaining the remaining host neurons and transplanted neurons. This review focuses on pharmacotherapeutic approaches using small compounds and proteins to enable axonal growth in chronic spinal cord injury. This review presents some of these candidates that have shown promising outcomes in basic research(in vivo animal studies) and clinical trials: AA-NgR(310)ecto-Fc(AXER-204), fasudil, phosphatase and tensin homolog protein antagonist peptide 4, chondroitinase ABC, intracellular sigma peptide,(-)-epigallocatechin gallate, matrine, acteoside, pyrvate kinase M2, diosgenin, granulocyte-colony stimulating factor, and fampridine-sustained release. As an ideal secondary energy source,hydrogen has the title of clean energy and the product of its complete combustion is only water,which is not polluting to the environment.Photocatalytic hydrogen production technology is an environmentally friendly,safe,and low-cost strategy that requires only an inexhaustible amount of solar energy and water as feedstock.This paper provides a detailed and detailed review of S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for photocatalytic hydrogen production,mainly including TiO_(2)-based,Perovskite-based,CdS-based,Graphitic phase carbon nitride-based,COF-based graphdiyne-based,ZnO-based,and ZnIn_(2)S_(4)-based S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts.The classification of S-scheme heterojunctions is summarized.What’s more,various characterizations for direct verification of the charge migration mechanism of S-scheme heterojunctions are outlined.Based on the present study,the future potential challenges and future research trends for S-scheme heterojunctions in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution technology are pointed out,which provides feasible strategies for the development and design of S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts in the field of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution.

We discuss the gravitational wave(GW)spectra predicted from the electroweak scalegenesis of the Higgs portal type with a large number of dark chiral flavors,which many flavor QCD would underlie and give the dynamical explanation of the negative Higgs portal coupling required to trigger the electroweak symmetry breaking.We employ the linear-sigma model as the low-energy description of dark many flavor QCD and show that the model undergoes ultra-supercooling due to the produced strong first-order thermal phase transition along the(approximately realized)flat direction based on the Gildener-Weinberg mechanism.Passing through evaluation of the bubble nucleation/percolation,we address the reheating and relaxation processes,which are generically non-thermal and nonadiabatic.Parametrizing the reheating epoch in terms of the e-folding number,we propose proper formulae for the redshift effects on the GW frequencies and signal spectra.It then turns out that the ultra-supercooling predicted from the Higgs-portal scalegenesis generically yields none of GW signals with the frequencies as low as nano Hz,unless the released latent heat is transported into another sector other than reheating the universe.Instead,models of this class prefer to give the higher frequency signals and still keeps the future prospected detection sensitivity,like at LISA,BBO,and DECIGO,etc.We also find that with large flavors in the dark sector,the GW signals are made further smaller and the peak frequencies higher.Characteristic phenomenological consequences related to the multiple chiral scalars include the prediction of dark pions with the mass much less than TeV scale,which is also briefly addressed.

Dear Editor,This letter presents a novel segmentation approach that leverages dendritic neurons to tackle the challenges of medical imaging segmentation.In this study,we enhance the segmentation accuracy based on a SegNet variant including an encoder-decoder structure,an upsampling index,and a deep supervision method.Furthermore,we introduce a dendritic neuron-based convolutional block to enable nonlinear feature mapping,thereby further improving the effectiveness of our approach.

Hernandezine(Her),a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid extracted from Thalictrum flavum,is recognized for its range of biological activities inherent to this herbal medicine.Despite its notable properties,the anti-cancer effects of Her have remained largely unexplored.In this study,we elucidated that Her significantly induced cytotoxicity in cancer cells through the activation of apoptosis and necroptosis mechanisms.Furthermore,Her triggered autophagosome formation by activating the AMPK and ATG5 conjugation systems,leading to LC3 lipidation.Our findings revealed that Her caused damage to the mitochondrial membrane,with the damaged mitochondria undergoing mitophagy,as evidenced by the elevated expression of mitophagy markers.Conversely,Her disrupted autophagic flux,demonstrated by the upregulation of p62 and accumulation of autolysosomes,as observed in the RFP-GFP-LC3 reporter assay.Initially,we determined that Her did not prevent the fusion of autophagosomes and lysosomes.However,it inhibited the maturation of cathepsin D and increased lysosomal pH,indicating an impairment of lysosomal function.The use of the early-stage autophagy inhibitor,3-methyladenine(3-MA),did not suppress LC3II,suggesting that Her also induces noncanonical autophagy in autophagosome formation.The application of Bafilomycin A1,an inhibitor of noncanonical autophagy,diminished the recruitment of ATG16L1 and the accumulation of LC3II by Her,thereby augmenting Her-induced cell death.These observations imply that while autophagy initially plays a protective role,the disruption of the autophagic process by Her promotes programmed cell death.This study provides the first evidence of Her’s dual role in inducing apoptosis and necroptosis while also initiating and subsequently impairing autophagy to promote apoptotic cell death.These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying programmed cell death,offering potential avenues for enhancing cancer prevention and therapeutic strategies.

BACKGROUND Real-world data on tofacitinib(TOF)covering a period of more than 1 year for a sufficient number of Asian patients with ulcerative colitis(UC)are scarce.AIM To investigate the long-term efficacy and safety of TOF treatment for UC,including clinical issues.METHODS We performed a retrospective single-center observational analysis of 111 UC patients administered TOF at Hyogo Medical university as a tertiary inflammatory bowel disease center.All consecutive UC patients who received TOF between May 2018 and February 2020 were enrolled.Patients were followed up until August 2020.The primary outcome was the clinical response rate at week 8.Secondary outcomes included clinical remission at week 8,cumulative persistence rate of TOF administration,colectomy-free survival,relapse after tapering of TOF and predictors of clinical response at week 8 and week 48.RESULTS The clinical response and remission rates were 66.3%and 50.5%at week 8,and 47.1%and 43.5%at week 48,respectively.The overall cumulative clinical remission rate was 61.7%at week 48 and history of anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)agents use had no influence(P=0.25).The cumulative TOF persistence rate at week 48 was significantly lower in patients without clinical remission than in those with remission at week 8(30.9%vs 88.1%;P<0.001).Baseline partial Mayo Score was significantly lower in responders vs non-responders at week 8(odds ratio:0.61,95%confidence interval:0.45-0.82,P=0.001).Relapse occurred in 45.7%of patients after TOF tapering,and 85.7%of patients responded within 4 wk after re-increase.All 6 patients with herpes zoster(HZ)developed the infection after achieving remission by TOF.CONCLUSION TOF was more effective in UC patients with mild activity at baseline and its efficacy was not affected by previous treatment with anti-TNF-αagents.Most relapsed patients responded again after re-increase of TOF and nearly half relapsed after tapering off TOF.Special attention is needed for tapering and HZ.

Mapping Network-Coordinated Stacked Gated Recurrent Units for Turbulence Prediction

Accurately predicting fluid forces acting on the sur-face of a structure is crucial in engineering design.However,this task becomes particularly challenging in turbulent flow,due to the complex and irregular changes in the flow field.In this study,we propose a novel deep learning method,named mapping net-work-coordinated stacked gated recurrent units(MSU),for pre-dicting pressure on a circular cylinder from velocity data.Specifi-cally,our coordinated learning strategy is designed to extract the most critical velocity point for prediction,a process that has not been explored before.In our experiments,MSU extracts one point from a velocity field containing 121 points and utilizes this point to accurately predict 100 pressure points on the cylinder.This method significantly reduces the workload of data measure-ment in practical engineering applications.Our experimental results demonstrate that MSU predictions are highly similar to the real turbulent data in both spatio-temporal and individual aspects.Furthermore,the comparison results show that MSU predicts more precise results,even outperforming models that use all velocity field points.Compared with state-of-the-art methods,MSU has an average improvement of more than 45%in various indicators such as root mean square error(RMSE).Through comprehensive and authoritative physical verification,we estab-lished that MSU’s prediction results closely align with pressure field data obtained in real turbulence fields.This confirmation underscores the considerable potential of MSU for practical applications in real engineering scenarios.The code is available at https://***/zhangzm0128/MSU.
