Carbon Nanotube-Textured Sand for Controlling Bioavailability of Contaminated Sediments

Sand particles textured with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) can efficiently control the mobility and bioavailability of contaminants found in aquatic sediments. Adsorption measurements for a wide variety of aquatic contaminants (chlorinated hydrocarbons) on MWCNT-textured sand showed orders of magnitude increase in their sorption coefficients compared to traditional materials (sand) when used for physically separating contaminated sediments from overlying water. Molecular dynamics simulations performed on model experimental systems emphasize that the hydrophobic interactions of the MWCNT surfaces play a crucial role in driving the water molecules away, promoting such enhanced contaminant uptake. The MWCNT-textured sand significantly reduced the migration of contaminants from sediments to overlying water and possesses suitable parameters needed for contaminant sequestration and sediment remediation technologies. The single step and scalable procedure described here for synthesizing robust MWCNT-textured sand surfaces will provide important improvements in the field of remediation/aquatic environment restoration technologies.

To explore the effect and pathogenssis of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) on early diffuse lung injury in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), we established an aGVHD model of C57BL/6→BALB/c mice. Chest computed tomography (CT) scans, histopathology and the levels of cytokines including tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) and Interferon (IFNγ) in lungs were dynamically detected in recipient mice after transplantation. The incidence of aGVHD was respectively 0%, 0% and 100% in simple irradiation group (A), syngeneic transplant group(B) and allogeneic transplant group (C). Chest CT scans of recipient mice were normal in 3 groups on days +3 and +7 after transplantation. CT showed that two of ten mice had bilateral lung diffuse infiltrate on day +12 (on the brink of death) in group A and 6 of 10 mice had bilateral lung diffuse infiltrate on day +14 (3 d after aGVHD occurring) in group C, and were normal on days +12 and +14 in group B after transplantation. Histopathology of lungs in the 3 groups was similar, consisting of minor interstitial pneumonitis on day +3. Group A showed edema, hyperplasia of epithelial cells and widened alveolar interval on day +7, and epithelial cell necrosis, lymphocyte infiltration, hemorrhage, protein leakage, and local consolidation on day +12. The histopathology of group B showed slight edema of epithelial cells on +7 day, which were slighter than that on day +3, and virtually normal on day +14. The histopathology in group C was characterized by the significant expansion and congestion of capillaries, and lymphocyte infiltration on day +7, the acute pneumonitis was present involving tissue edema, lymphocyte and macrophage infiltration, protein leakage and perivascular inflammation on day +14. In group A, the levels of TNFα were lower on day +7 than on day +3. In group B, the levels of TNFα attained a peak on day +3, which decreased on days +7 and +14. Selection of the strategically substituted alkyl chains has a significant effect to modulate the physical properties of conjugated polymers,electro-optical characteristics,and active layer morphology of the corresponding polymer solar cells(PSCs).Herein,we systematically synthesized three dibenzo[a,c]phenazine based D-π-A donor polymers named PBP-C0,PBP-C8,and PBP-C6 with different alkyl substitutions on thiopheneπ-bridges,without alkyl,2-ethylhexyl and n-hexyl groups,*** absence of the alkyl chain(PBP-C0)on theπ-bridge caused poor solubility and unfavorable miscibility with the Y5 acceptor,leading to the lower photovoltaic *** bulky alkyl chain of 2-ethylhexyl on theπ-bridge group caused the twisting of PBP-C8 conjugated backbone,which limits the charge transport and also compromises the photovoltaic *** contrast,the PBP-C6-with flexible linear alkyl chains has almost planar curvature geometry resulting in the small uniform domain size and appropriate phase separation in the blend film *** favorable properties enhanced the exciton generation to dissociation,charge carrier mobility,and also lowered the charge *** three polymers,PBP-C6-based devices exhibit the best PCE of 11.60%.From these results,thiopheneπ-bridge alkyl substitution demonstrated an important strategy to adjust energy level,absorption,and phase separation morphology to enhance the photovoltaic performance of the PSCs.

There are still controversies about the roles of microRNA-26a（miR-26a）in human malignancies,as it is a tumor suppressor in breast cancer,gastric cancer,and hepatocellular carcinoma,but is an oncogene in glioma and *** now,the function of miR-26a in osteosarcoma remains largely ***,we found that miR-26a was downregualted in osteosarcoma *** in vitro and in vivo assays,we confirmed that miR-26a could inhibit the abilities of in vitro proliferation and suppress in vivo tumor growth in mouse ***,we identified insulin-like growth factor 1（IGF-1）as a novel and direct target of miR-26a and revealed that miR-26a exerted its tumor-suppressor function,at least in part,by inhibiting *** findings contribute to our understanding of the functions of miR-26a in osteosarcoma.

In this paper, we report polyfluorene-separated ultra-high purity semiconducting carbon nanotube radio frequency transistors with a self-aligned T-shape gate structure. Because of the ultra-high semiconducting tube purity and self-aligned T-shape gate structure, these transistors showed an excellent direct current and radio frequency performance. In regard to the direct current characteristics, these transistors showed a transconductance up to 40μS/μm and an excellent current saturation behavior with an output resistance greater than 200 kΩ·μm. In terms of the radio frequency characteristics, an extrinsic maximum oscillation frequency （fmax） of 19 GHz was achieved, which is a record among all kinds of carbon nanotube transistors, and an extrinsic current gain cut-off frequency （fT） of 22 GHz was achieved, which is the highest among transistors based on carbon nanotube networks. Our results take the radio frequency performance of carbon nanotube transistors to a new level and can further accelerate the application of carbon nanotubes for future radio frequency electronics.

The engineering of switchable molecules with magnetic multistability is lying on the cutting-edge research topics for integrating multi-switches and ternary memory devices. Here we presented a cyanide-bridged {Fe_(2)^(Ⅲ)Fe^(Ⅱ)} desolvated complex {[(pzTp)Fe^(Ⅲ)-(CN)3]2[Fe^(Ⅱ)(L)]} (1), obtained through single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformation from its solvated phase {[(pzTp)-Fe^(Ⅲ)(CN)3]2[Fe^(Ⅱ)(L)]}·2CH_(3)OH·5H_(2)O (1·sol). Remarkably, 1 exhibited unprecedented three-step transition in magnetization with wide thermal hysteresis (44, 40, and 36 K) in the temperature range of 80–320 K. The detailed studies demonstrated that the tristable character originates from both an order-disorder structural phase transition (SPT) and a strongly cooperative two-step spin crossover (SCO) process. This work thus provides a new promising strategy for realizing multiple bistablity in magnetization by introducing two different transitions.
