This paper examines the impact of piracy on access pricing strategy of an operating system platform.We study the behavior of users and developers due to an increase in software protection when positive network externalities matter.We show that when piracy cost increases,access demands to the platform vary in the same direction and the magnitude of this variation depends on both the marginal network benefit that a developer derives and a certain threshold of piracy cost.Taking into account the behavior of these two sides when piracy matters,the monopoly platform changes its pricing strategy.We show that,it tends to reduce or to increase access fees.Finally,we show that under certain conditions,the divide-and-conquer pricing strategy can be reversed.

An assessment of the human motion repeatability for three selected Activities of Daily Living(ADL)is performed in this paper.These exercises were prescribed by an occupational therapist for the upper limb rehabilitation.The movement patterns of five participants,recorded using a Qualisys motion capture system,are compared based on the Analysis of Variance(ANOVA)method.This survey is motivated by the need to find the appropriate task workspace of a 6-degrees of freedom cable-driven parallel robot for upper limb rehabilitation,which is able to reproduce the three selected exercises.This comparison is performed to justify,whether or not,there is enough similarity between the participants’gestures,and so a single reference trajectory can be adopted as the robot-prescribed workspace.Using the results of the comparative study,an optimization process of the sought robot design is carried out,where the structure size and the cable tensions simultaneously minimized.

The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of using surfactant(CTAB)and cellulose nanofibers(NFC)as an admixture in cement mortars.We examined composite properties as porosity,compression energy,thermal conductivity and hydration.The results showed that with the addition of 0.7%by weight of NFC per emulsion in the presence of a cationic surfactant(CTAB).The new material produced presented a dry porosity between 4.7%and 4.4%,compressive strength between 9.8 and 22.9 MPa,and thermal conductivity between 0.95 and 2.25 W·m^(−1)·K^(−1).Thus we show better mechanical and thermal performance than that traditional Portland cement mortar with a density similar.In addition,the mortar made by emulsion of ordinary portland cement,cellulose nanofiber and organophilic clay(OC)treated with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB)obtained has good resistance under high temperature and water,as well as excellent thermal insulation performance under high temperature and humidity conditions.This study verified that the presence of NFC promotes hydration,leading to the production of more calcium silicate and portlandite gel.

The fast development and the rapid spread of information technology have raised the issue of digitalimage copyright protection, which was mostly addressed through robust watermarking. To ensure the survival of the watermark after attacks, most works have been making use of an additional step at the embedding phase,and by so making the scheme unsuitable for real-time implementation. However, to be effective and secure, it is recommended to combine the watermarking algorithm and the capture sensor in one device. In this paper, we brought the extra stage to the detection side. We firstly studied the effect of some signal processing operations on a watermarked image, then we proposed a general model for watermark extraction whose parameters were determined using the artificial bee colony. The efficacy of the proposed method was validated by comparing its robustness with two state-of-art schemes focusing on the watermark extraction.

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to investigate the stabilization of unstable periodic orbits of Chua’s system using adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controllers with moving surface.Design/methodology/approach–For this aim,the sliding mode controller and fuzzy systems are combined to achieve the stabilization.Then,the authors propose a moving sliding surface to improve robustness against uncertainties during the reaching phase,parameter variations and extraneous disturbances.Findings–Afterward,the authors design a sliding observer to estimate the unmeasurable states which are used in the previously designed controller.Originality/value–Numerical results are provided to show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

We consider the problem of two-machine cross-docking flow shop scheduling where each job on the second machine cannot be processed unless a job or a set of jobs have been completed on the first machine.The aim is to find a feasible schedule that minimizes the makespan.As the problem is shown to be strongly NP-hard,we propose a genetic algorithm to solve small and large size problems.We test different types for each genetic operator where new ideas are introduced,which leads to propose six versions of the genetic algorithm.We then evaluate their effectiveness through an extensive computational experiments by using many instances generated randomly and by determining the percentage deviation from a lower bound from the literature.

A three-dimensional Darcy Forchheimer mixed convective flow of a couple stress hybrid nanofluid flow through a vertical plate by means of the double diffusion Cattaneo-Christov model is presented in this study.The influence of highorder velocity slip flow,as well as a passive and active control,is also considered.The motive of the research is to develop a computational model,using cobalt ferrite(Co Fe_(2)O_(4))and copper(Cu)nanoparticles(NPs)in the carrier fluid water,to magnify the energy and mass communication rate and boost the efficiency and performance of thermal energy conduction for a variety of commercial and biological purposes.The proposed model becomes more significant,with an additional effect of non-Fick's mass flux and Fourier's heat model to report the energy and mass passage rate.The results are obtained through the computational strategy parametric continuation method.The figures are plotted to reveal the physical sketch of the obtained solution,while the statistical assessment has been evaluated through tables.It has been observed that the dispersion of Cu and Co Fe_(2)O_(4)NPs to the base fluid significantly enhances the velocity and thermal conductivity of water,which is the most remarkable property of these NPs from the industrial point of view.

This paper deals with a design approach of a gait training machine based on a quantitative gait analysis. The proposed training machine is composed of a body weight support device and a cable-driven parallel robot. This paper is focused on the cable-driven robot, which controls the pose of the lower limb through an orthosis placed on the patient＇s leg. The cable robot reproduces a normal gait movement through the motion of the orthosis. A motion capture system is used to perform the quantitative analysis of a normal gait, which will be used as an input to the inverse dynamic model of the cable robot. By means of an optimization algorithm, the optimal design parameters, which minimize the tensions in the cables, are determined. Two constraints are considered, i.e., a non-negative tension in the cables at all times, and a free cable/end-effector collision. Once the optimal solution is computed, a power analysis is carried out in order to size the robot actuators. The proposed approach can be easily extended for the design study of a similar type of cable robots.
