Sensitivity of runoff to climatic variability in the northern and southern slopes of the Middle Tianshan Mountains,China

Temperature and precipitation play an important role in the distribution of intra-annual runoff by influencing the timing and contribution of different water *** the northern and southern slopes of the Middle Tianshan Mountains in China,the water sources of rivers are similar;however,the proportion and dominance of water sources contributing to runoff are *** the Manas River watershed in the northern slope and the Kaidu River watershed in the southern slope of the Middle Tianshan Mountains as case studies,we investigated the changes in annual runoff under climate change.A modified hydrological model was used to simulate runoff in the Kaidu River and Manas River *** results indicated that runoff was sensitive to precipitation variation in the southern slope and to temperature variation in the northern slope of the Middle Tianshan *** in temperature and precipitation substantially influence annual and seasonal *** increase in temperature did not influence the volume of spring runoff;but it resulted in earlier spring peaks with higher levels of peak *** caused by spring peak flow from both slopes of the Middle Tianshan Mountains should be given more attention in future studies.

By observing four samples obtained from Jiangxi Province, China, under the scanning electron mi-croscope (SEM), we discovered that nano-particle layers were commonly formed on sliding planes of the penetrative foliation in metamorphic rocks. We also successfully reproduced this phenomenon with a tri-axial pressure experiment. Having gone through the granulitization-alienation-partition in the shear sliding process, the nano-particles (40-95 nm in diameter) display different individual shapes and dis-tinct layered textures. This nano-confinement layer is essentially a frictional-viscous stripe with vis-cous-elastic deformation. In the micro-domain stripe, activities in structural stress field-rheological physical field-geochemical field are very dynamic, corresponding to the three stages (i.e., shear sliding strengthening-weakening-exfoliating) of the foliation development in metamorphism rocks. As such, the viscous-elastic deformation behavior helps shed light on the understanding of the micro-dynamic mechanism of the structural shearing.

Ultraviolet-emitting ZnO thick layer grown by thermal oxidation with gallium

The Zn O layer with thickness of 1.6 μm in Zn O/Zn Ga2O4 composite structure was grown by the thermal oxidation of Zn S substrate with gallium. The optical property of the Zn O thick layer was investigated by time-resolved photoluminescence. A single UV emission around 375 nm with short lifetime was observed at room temperature while the visible emission was absolutely quenched. The UV emission band was composed of the neutral donor bound exciton(D0X) and donor-acceptor pair(DAP) emission peaks with large full-width at half-maximums(FWHMs) at 3.367 and 3.318 e V, respectively, at 10 K. However, the intensity of the D0 X emission was stronger than that of the DAP emission at measuring temperatures of 10–300 K.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase(DHODH)is a central enzyme of the de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway and is a promising drug target for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune *** study presents the identification of a potent DHODH inhibitor by proteomic ***-based screening revealed that NPD723,which is reduced to H-006 in cells,strongly induces myeloid differentiation and inhibits cell growth in HL-60 cells.H-006 also suppressed the growth of various cancer *** profiling of NPD723-treated cells in ChemProteoBase showed that NPD723 was clustered with DHODH inhibitors.H-006 potently inhibited human DHODH activity in vitro,whereas NPD723 was approximately 400 times less active than H-006.H-006-induced cell death was rescued by the addition of the DHODH product orotic ***,metabolome analysis revealed that H-006 treatment promotes marked accumulation of the DHODH substrate dihydroorotic *** results suggest that NPD723 is reduced in cells to its active metabolite H-006,which then targets DHODH and suppresses cancer cell ***,H-006-related drugs represent a potentially powerful treatment for cancer and other diseases.

Steam reforming of methanol and gasoline is actively researched and developed as hydrogen supply methods for the fuel cells of vehicles and so on. However, these materials have the problems such as the infrastructure, toxicity, difficulty of the reforming, and so forth. Dimethyl ether (DME) does not contain the poisonous substances, and is expected as a clean fuel of the next generation. DME is able to take the place of light oil and LPG, and its physical properties are similar to those of LPG. There is possibility that DME infrastructures will be settled more rapidly than those of hydrogen and methanol, because LPG infrastructures existing are able to use for DME. Then, we have been studying on steam reforming of DME for the hydrogen production.

Since the 1990s, an ultramicro-particle texture in nano- or micron-sized scale has been continually found in shear planes of various rocks, and recently further progress was made in generic physical mechanisms. In this article, the characteristics of the nano-sized particle layer in rock shear planes (including widespread distribution, layering texture, non-linear genetic mechanism, and multiple functions) on an ultra micro-scale were briefly introduced and more information was obtained by analyzing cases from home and abroad. Our findings suggest that (1) there is a paragenetic relationship between the development of shear frictional- viscous and the formation of nano-sized particles, and (2) in the shear movement, partitioning, segregating, and layering in rocks are initiated by the sliding motion of the nano-sized particle layer. Moreover, the plastic rheology of rocks is essentially the move- ment of ultra-micro-sized particles (nano-size and micro-size), and the nano-sized particle layer in rock shear planes is characterized by some particular physical and chemical effects.

Burn injuries are a huge public health issue for children throughout the world, with the majority occurring in developing countries. Burn injuries can leave a pediatric patient with severely debilitating and deforming contractures, which can lead to significant disability when left untreated. Rehabilitation is an essential and integral part of pediatric burn treatment. The aim of this article was to review the literature on pediatric burn rehabilitation from the Medline, CINAHL, and Web of Science databases. An attempt has been made to present the basic aspects of burn rehabilitation, provide practical information, and discuss the goals and conceptualization of rehabilitation as well as the development of rehabilitation philosophy and strategies.

AIM To investigate the relationship between plasma ghrelin level, Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection status and the severity of atrophy in hemodialysis *** One hundred eights patients who received hemodialysis and 13 non-hemodialysis H. pylori-negative controlsunderwent gastroduodenoscopy to evaluate the severity of gastric atrophy. Serum levels of pepsinogen(PG) were measured as serum markers of gastric atrophy. H. pylori infection was evaluated by anti-H. pylori IgG antibody, rapid urease test and culture test. We classified H. pylori infection status as non-infection, present infection and past infection. In addition, plasma acyl-ghrelin and desacyl-ghrelin levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS Infection rate of H. pylori was 45.4%(49/108). Acylghrelin level in the non-infection group(39.4 ± 23.0 fmol/ml) was significantly higher than in the past(23.4 ± 19.9 fmol/ml, P = 0.005) and present infection groups(19.5 ± 14.0 fmol/ml, P < 0.001). Furthermore, desacyl-ghrelin level in the non-infection group(353.2 ± 190.2 fmol/ml) was significantly higher than those in the past(234.9 ± 137.5 fmol/ml, P = 0.008) and present infection groups(211.8 ± 124.2 fmol/ml, P < 0.001). Acyl-ghrelin was positively correlated with the PG Ⅰ level and PG Ⅰ/Ⅱ ratio(|R| = 0.484, P < 0.001 and |R| = 0.403, P < 0.001, respectively). Both ghrelins were significantly decreased in accordance with the progress of endoscopic atrophy(both P < 0.001) and acyl-ghrelin was significantly lower in patients with mild, moderate and severe atrophy(24.5 ± 23.1 fmol/ml, 20.2 ± 14.9 fmol/ml and 18.3 ± 11.8 fmol/ml) than in those with non-atrophy(39.4 ± 22.2 fmol/ml, P = 0.039, P = 0.002 and P < 0.001, respectively).CONCLUSION In hemodialysis patients, plasma ghrelin level was associated with the endoscopic and serological severity of atrophy related to H. pylori infection.
